Yes, the mansions do have elevators.

Remember though that the elevators are only in the central block of each mansion building, not in the 'wing' sections, so it might be worth requesting a room close to the elevators to avoid some trekking along the walkways.

Multiple room question-I will be booking at least 3 rooms for our next trip. Since the reservation will be under my name, will all the rooms be in the same building? Or would I need to request this?

Make sure the rooms are 'linked' within the booking system, and it wouldn't do any harm to request nearby rooms too. But no, you are not likely to be assigned rooms in different buildings or anything like that.

You will have to have a different adult assigned as the "owner" of each reservation, unless you are traveling with just minors.

We just upgraded to preferred rooms for POR, as our last time there we were quite a hike from bussing, does anyone have experience with preferred rooms? It cost $100 extra for 4 nights... Worth it?

How long do you think it takes to walk from the farthest rooms to the main building? If I don't book a preferred room what's the most walking I'd have to do? I walk back and forth from public transportation here in the city and I'm wondering if (with the kids in the stroller) it won't be that bad of a hike? Basically I'm trying to talk myself out of paying for a preferred room in AB :rotfl2:

I want to say from the farthermost spot on that resort to the main building at a non rushed pace, about 5-7 minutes. But to be honest you see a very beautiful resort regardless where you are located. It comes down to what you feel like after all the walking you do at the parks then do you fell like walking all the way out to the room from the main building if you stop to shop, eat dinner, etc. But if you just catch the bus from the parks to the individual stops on the outer ring of the resort and skip the main building it would not be terribly far from them to the room usually.

I say about 5 minutes. The grounds are so beautiful & its such a nice walk even after coming back late at night from one of the parks.

I think it is! I'll spend the extra $ everytime!

The furthest possible walking route from a ground-floor room to the food court is about 585 yards, although most are a lot shorter of course. Add a tiny bit for stairs if you are in an upper floor room. But it's a lovely pleasant walk though.

Of course, 585 yards is a quite a bit further after a long day in a hot theme park than it is in most other places...

See http://www.portorleans.org/faqs.php#Size for all the boring facts and figures.

Great point! Thanks!!

We just came back from a week long visit at POR. It was a beautiful resort. I had originally requested bldg. 16 or 17 on our reservation, but never faxed anything because I really didn't have a strong opinion. The bldg we were assigned to was #38 garden view. It was lovely. We had a wonderful view of a mini bayou. Also, it was just a short walk to bus stop and not to far from the pool or main bldg. If we stay there again I would probably request this area. It was quiet and tranquil. My husband and kids ate at the food court and loved their meals. We didn't experience any issues with the buses. However, I did like the the south depot has a tv with approximate bus times.

Housekeeping was good. Only one time did we have a maid that gave us some attitude. We had come back to our room to chill for a little while and she hadn't cleaned our room yet. We were changing into swim clothes when she came and she didn't want to wait five minutes for us to change, because it was her last room for the day and she wanted to go home. Whatever, she saved me $5 for the day. Also, the room needed to have a all over cleaning. Corners and railings were dusty. Other than that it was fabulous. So glad we stayed here. My 6 year old ds thought "his little" bed was awesome.

I am looking for a little help. If I am looking to be as close to the pool/food court, is a garden view better to book than a standard view?

Garden is definitely better than standard. Standard has views of parking lots or obstructed views of maybe garden areas.

Garden View, you have views of the beautiful landscape, plants, flowers, possibly close to pool and rivers. But definitely closer to the main building with the food court, and gift shop.

Can anyone confirm for me what time the buses start. I read they start at 6:30am in 20 min intervals which seemed the same as BC last year. We had no problem getting to our 8am ADRs then, so I never thought I'd have a problem this time. The customer service lady when I called for my 8:05 BBB made a huge deal about how we'd need a taxi. I'm going to have to rethink 5 8am reservations if we have to pay for a taxi each in of those mornings...

Eta: we are staying 9/7-9/16 if that matters...

I can't seem to find the link now, but search through this thread and there was a link for a view from every room at POR. That was enough to make me upgrade from standard to garden view. I will say though I called to make my moms reservation yesterday, said standard room three times and they ended up booking them for garden. Oh well, I'm sure my parents will like it better anyway...

The link you are talking about is on the previous thread. If you click on pg 1 Andre has a link to that thread.
