We are currently booked for our 2nd disney vacation, and will be staying at POR! We are a family of 5, and I have 14 nights booked with free dining the end of next Aug, and beginning of Sep. I currently have a preferred room booked, but wondering if its worth $500+. We will have a car, so i can drive to the pool area. So the main concern would be the walk to the bus stop. Would i be better off paying the $500 extra for preferred. Or just book standard and request a room in a building near preferred? I appreciate any advice, thanks!

You really cant drive to the pool area. It is fairly deep in the resort away from any parking lot. I have stayed at POR many times and do think the preferred location is worth the extra cost. Otherwise, with the way the paths wind and twist, you can have a bit of a walk to the main pool and the food court.

Did you get bounce back? We also have a preferred room booked for the next August for a family of 5..... Does anyone know if you need to upgrade to preferred room with a group of 5 or are you automatically put in a certain building that has the Murphy beds??

All the rooms in AB have Murphy beds and accommodate 5 people.

Thank you, that's good to know.

Yes it's a bounceback:)

Andre, your website and posts have been really helpful to us in vacation planning! We are checking in to POR tomorrow for a week. Is there any info I can collect for you while we are there?

Thanks for the kind comments.

You could see if Boatwright's has started its new menu yet if possible? I know it was going to happen fairly soon into the new company year (which started this week) but I can't remember the exact date.

Also could you see if the road works near the bus stops are complete yet (allowing the new bendy buses to access the area)?

Otherwise, just concentrate on having a good time and let us know how you get on. :thumbsup2

Aren't there new menu items in the food court as well? Has anyone tried them?

Yes, I'll stop by Boatwrights and take some photos of what they have posted. I'll also check out the bus stops and take a few pictures there. :goodvibes

I ate there Sunday and the menu was not new.
- but that was technically in September.

Just our families opinion:wave2:, but we have stayed at POR quite a few times and have never seen a reason to pay for preferred. We have stayed in 4 different AB buildings and twice in Oak Manor. We have stayed in the back of the resort (Bldg 36) and it was about a 10-15 minute walk to the FC area, depending on stopping to look for rabbits or feed ducks:laughing:, and a little less to the main pool area. There are 4 bus stops, so you really are not that far from one of them. We find walking at POR very relaxing, even after a full day at the parks. But, we are also not the family who is rushing to and from the bus to the parks and back to our rooms either. Each family is different, some do not mind walking and some do. Now if there is someone with a health issue, then definately get preferred. Either way I think you will enjoy POR, have a great trip.

Keep me posted on this. If it hasn't been updated by the time I get there when I will keep looking, photo if necessary and send it to you asap.

Yes there are. I've got a full list, which I'll be posting soon. From next week I should have a good deal more time on my hands.

Actually, I didn't manage to get photos of the French Quarter Dinner menus while I was there (I got all the others, and all of the POR ones) so if anyone is at FQ after 5pm, I'd appreciate some quick snaps of the menu boards if possible. Thanks!

Awesome! Thanks Andre!

Question about BB, do you have to bounce back to same resort?

It will say what the offer is and at the selected Disney resorts that are included. Here is an example photo below. FYI; this is an old BB and not the current offer.

I can't wait. It's less than two weeks before we head down for our vacation. I don't know who is more excited about this, me or the kids.:woohoo:

I was poking around portorleans.org and saw some February pictures from POFQ. Some of the trees looked bare. Silly questions, but in Florida does the trees usually lose their leaves? Does POR look very different. Thinking about taking my mom in January to the Royal Rooms. But I don't want to go somewhere in winter that has brown, bare trees. Too similar to home...

Our trees here in Florida do drop like everyone else's do. Believe me my DH hates raking them up along with pine needles. Haven't really paid much attention on POR visits though. Just know what happens about an hour east of WDW.
