Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part Two [Thread now FULL and closed]

The refrigerator is nowhere to be seen, so it appears that yes some have been removed and they are putting people in those rooms without them.

Much as we expected, yes. Riverside is better off than many resorts in that about 50% of the rooms still have working fridges, but on the "glass half empty" front that equally means that the other 50% don't.

We'll be there late Sept, and from what I've read, all the refrigerator replacements are to be complete by July 31st? Is that right?

That 31st July quote came from an unattributed CM (possibly from the reservations call center?) and of course has been passed around the internet as gospel ever since. Whatever, I'm afraid there is no way that all the fridges at POR will be done by next week. Disney are still officially saying "up to four months" and have not narrowed it down any further than that yet. My own feeling is that it will be sooner than that, but still in terms of months not weeks.

You can of course request a fridge if you wish, but the resort will need to prioritise any medical requirements before granting general requests.

Thanks Andre. :) I'll keep checking back and try to keep up to date. Not having a refrigerator is a BIG issue for us, especially since we preorder a good amount of items from Garden Grocer each trip. I would hate to find out we don't have refrigerators!!!

At present I would work on the assumption that you probably won't have a fridge, and adjust any orders accordingly. Then if you do happen to get a fridge, it'll be a bonus. And keep en eye on this thread for updates in the meantime, as you're still two months away.

I know I have 132 days left :lmao: but I'm still planning and looking and wishing the days were faster.

Where are the laundry facilities in the mansions? I did look it up on portorleans.org but didn't see them. I did read that they are near the quiet pool.

And to second that question, has anyone traveled on an airplane with Tide pods? Just wondering if they survived the pressure changes.

Read a lot about the pods. They should be okay to fly with in your checked luggage. But, you probably want to pack them in something so they don't break if they're smashed (and to prevent any damage if they do bursts/break).

The laundry facilities where we stayed in Oak Manor were right beside the quiet pool. Very convenient. Put your tide pods in a freezer bag inside a rubbermaid container. Otherwise, I got liquid tide in single packets in the travel section at Walmart.

I also brought the single serving Tide packets from Walmart. :thumbsup2 Plus I brought bounce dryer sheers in a ziploc.

We used the laundry between Oak and Paterre as well. Tons of machines, even more dryers.

Room Recommendations?
We have a garden view booked. I really don't want to stay in the bayou so I want to request a mansion room. I'd like something that is close to the bridges. Last year we did a RGR in oak and were in the very front of oak on a ground floor in front of the fountain, perfect location!

I was wondering if anyone had any opinions if Magnolia or Acadian would be closer to the bridge. I'm thinking Magnolia it looks close on the map to the bridge leading to ole man island and then to the food court. But would also depend on where gardenview rooms are located in Magnolia?

Any opinions?

requests would then be,

Magnolia
close to the front of the building
ground floor

any thoughts?

What kind of coffee makers dose POR have, i'll be there in Sept. and want to bring my own coffee. Only 52 days to go, can't wait.

On the subject of coffee, does mousekeeping restock at least one pod when the room is serviced each day (staying POR RGR in October)? As soon as DH's feet hit the floor in the morning, it's straight to the coffeemaker, so I wasn't sure if I needed to BYO or if there would be at least one pod restocked each day.

Thanks all :thumbsup2

Mousekeeping will restock 2 each day. People have said you can request more. I have a box of soft pods to bring with me along with individual liquid coffee mates. I don't always love the in room coffee and also need my first cup as soon as my feet hit the floor.

Still waiting for Keurig to jump on the ball and make a condensed single cup K-Cup Brewer for Guests wanting to bring it on a flight or in general. I know there is one for $99 USD but its not really small at all, just the smallest they carry.

For those asking about coffee...

I bought pods of my favorite coffee to take, but ended up using Disney's supplied pods because it was Joffrey's and I really enjoyed it. We stopped at Goodings prior to check in and got creamer to keep in our fridge and it worked out perfectly! Once housekeeping saw that I was using it, they restocked (almost too much!) Haha! The tray that the coffee supplies were in was overflowing!

Hello all! We just changed resorts from Pop to POR! I've been looking at all the pictures and reading up and I'm super excited, it's a beautiful resort! Anyway, we have a preferred room booked, do I need to worry about a parking lot view with this? Is the parking lot side of the building looking straight out onto a concrete jungle or is it more visually appealing than, say, the parking lot view at Pop? Thank you!

ETA: Also, my IL's will be coming with us as well (connecting room) and he is an instant coffee addict (BLECCHHH!). Do the coffee makers run hot water through them? I know he would be super happy to be able to make a cup of instant in the morning or whenever he wants.

Since we are on the subject of the coffee maker...does anyone know if there are green tea pods you can buy? I don't drink coffee and I don't know anything about coffee makers. (Pathetic I know) so I would love to be able to make tea in the morning. If I was to google this, what would I be looking for? Cuisineart green tea pods? I am so clueless about this. Sorry!

You could always just bring green tea bags and run the water through the coffee maker with no pods. This will give you the hot water to steep your tea in.

I read that for fishing you are supplied bait and that the fishing is catch and release..

Stupid quesiton: are there CMs there to help??
I will be traveling without DH and I know my son will want to try this..Never been fishing. And I am too chicken to bait a worm ( I read they have hotdogs as bait, true?)..

And what happens if we catch a fish. I have no idea how to release a fish...
Soo are there people to help?
