Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part Two [Thread now FULL and closed]

Quick question! I know you can get your breakfast in the POR food court and find a table in Boatwright's to eat, but can you do this for lunch too? Is it even busy enough to need to do this at lunchtime?

When she asked me if my charge for River Roost was $35.98, I hesitated a bit - and said I wish! It was $125.00 - of course, I love Holly and did leave a huge tip! Anyway, she said, boy if I had run up that big of a bar bill, I wouldn't have known what I was signing either! I nearly fell over. She was a hoot!

LOL, as long as she got it sorted out for you anyway. So is Holly back at River Roost then? I thought she'd transferred over to Kouzzina on the Boardwalk?

They really only encourage it at breakfast time, as they later set up tables ready for the evening sittings - but lunchtimes are generally not very busy anyway, as people are at the parks.

I'm sorry if this is an odd question, or if it has been addressed already and I am just missing it. Is there anywhere that shows the bus loading area locations at the different parks (Epcot, MK, etc.) that are designated for POR? Thank you for any information you may have.

I have tried to find pictures of this too. I have a feeling POR is just about the very last moderate resort in the bus queues. In some cases, AoA may even be before POR in the line-up. I do believe it is closer than any of the All Stars though.

Just curious as to why you are looking for them? I ask because the locations change all the time. As an example, during our last 8-night stay we had a different loading location at MK, Epcot and Animal Kingdom every time we went. DHS was the only one that didn't change.

There are no set bus stops. The bus stops are changed weekly based on demand.

DHS has been the closest the week I go, and the rest have been midway. Do not ever assume they are far away, just because they are mods. I have used the parks to transfer to resorts and a few times GF has been the farthest.

Also, there are times you go to the bus stop at park closing and POR is packed, while POFQ is barely a line. Make yourself aware of the foot path from POFQ to POR when you get there. Consider it as a great alternative.

I knew you would ask, because I showed up Saturday and saw that spikey hair from the back at the server station and knew there was only spikey hair person in there.

She is picking up Friday and Saturday, because she loves Bob. But she does love Kouzzina for the breakfast shift.

We will be staying in the royal rooms in November and I was hoping to store some stuff under the bed. Can anyone tell me if there is useable space under the bed or if these beds have the added piece under them.

Thanks in advance!!!

If you're going to be there the same week I am then POR will be the furthest bus stop. It never fails! Sometimes I think the Disney transportation people have it in for me. No matter where I stay it seems my bus stop is the longest walk.

LOL it does change, maybe not daily but it does change.

Nope. In Magnolia Terrace, there was no ability to store under the bed, however the mattress slipped down away from the headboard and we managed to drop the remote down there and it disappeared. We spent many times lifting everything up so we could get under the boxspring.

However, there was enough room to store baggage along the wall next to the bed.

Good to know, I know a lot of people enjoyed having her around at the River Roost. And of course who doesn't love Bob?

And the cheesecake, red velvet cake and carrot cake. I was in sugar overload....

And given the bar bill which you mentioned, possibly a touch of alcohol overload too... :drinking1 ;)

I've usually found that POR/POFQ buses tend to use stops 5 & 6 at the MK (yes, the furthest away :( ) but as people have said, it can change. Just check the signs as you approach the bus pickup area to see where you need to go.

Yeah, they took away the last remaining under-bed storage areas when they refurbed Alligator Bayou. I guess it cuts down on the cleaning issues, but I sure do miss that space for keeping suitcases.

We now use the space between the bed and the bathroom wall too - and if you put a case there, it makes a nice extra bedside table for putting your phone on, etc.

Quick question for you, as I'm helping some friends plan their trip. On their departure day from POR, their flight isn't until the evening so they'll need to put their luggage in storage for that last day. They'd like to go to a park for a few hours that day. Should they call Bell Services the night before to arrange a time for their luggage to be picked up the next day, so as to save time their last morning? I've always transported my own luggage at POR, so I'm not sure how this works. Is it sufficient to just call the morning of instead? I know they would like to get going and start their day by 8:15am or so. Thanks for any insight!

I do it every year.

They should stop at Guest Services about 48 hours before they plan to leave. If it is a very busy check-out day, they will not be able to just call Guest Services and asked to be picked up at the room.

They can check out anytime before 11 am.

They can use the RAC located near guest services and send their luggage off to the airport early. RAC is open from 5 am to 1 pm.

They can also opt to store it at guest services, if they prefer to take their luggage on the ME bus, if they are using that route. Leave an extra 15 minutes for Guest Services to free themselves up to retrieve the luggage. If it is a very busy check-in time, they will be busy with other guests.

I just had a curious pondering from our last trip for those of you who store luggage. We always drive since we live in South Carolina and it only takes us 6 hours, so we've never used ME or needed to use the storage services. During our stay we often used the footpath that takes you in front of the luggage storage area on our way to and from the south bus depot. On many occasions the room with everyone's luggage was completely unattended, left wide open, and strollers and other larger items were left sitting around the corner against the wall outside the storage area. Late at night when we returned from the parks it was the same. Has anyone ever had luggage stolen? It seemed so completely open to that happening.

There are cameras everywhere on Disney property, as well as undercover security people. Just because you do not see a person dressed in standard dress for guest services nearby, does not mean that no one is minding the store.

Also, the strollers around the corner are from rental companies. That is where guests pick them up at the beginning of the trip and drop them off at the end.
