Quick Question!

I am 57 days till my trip to POR. Do I do online check in now or wait till its closer to my check in date. I do have a few request on my reservation.

Or do I wait till a week before I leave and also send a fax with my requests?
My kids want to stay in Allegator Bayou and so do I, because of the murphy bed in the rooms.

Thank you:thumbsup2

Love the webcam !!! OMG makes me miss POR SOOOOOOOO much. Just saw people arriving (they seemed excited so I assume its arriving) and it made my heart ache ....

Please post any info you find! :)

The Fishing Hole is on Ole Man Island. Times are from 7-3 with the last rental being at 2:30. Prices are $4.02 for one or $13.32 for a family for 30 minutes. It's catch and release and weather permitting. :goodvibes

I'll probably call back closer to our stay just in case times change due to the season.

Thankyou for sharing that information darnheather.
I am jotting it down and putting it inside my Disney binder :thumbsup2

Hi all, we are staying one night in a royal room before going to our SSR timeshare. Since it is only one night, we don't have any requests. Is online check-in much quicker. I haven't done it before and wondering whether to try it.

was that because there were so many people or was the bus just slow coming?
look on the bright side....your there, i'm not. :( lol

Lol..it was an issue with bus being slow. We saw multiple buses for other parks. Crowds are about normal for this time of year. Hot and humid too. :)

Question about Bayou room AC.

I am looking at one of the 360 degree pics that Andre has up of a typical Bayou room.I noticed that there is an older style AC unit underneath the window, but also a thermostat for central AC located on the wall.
Do they both work, or just one.

Also, does the usual by-pass method work for the wall thermostat?
We like it cold to sleep at night.

The one on the wall controls the unit by the window. I saw somewhere a Program mode you can enter into it for 24hrs a time and it stays on constantly. It was here on the DISboards.

So after much adieu about nothing yesterday, my TA being on hold with Disney for nearly 3 hours, system crashes, etc. with the FD promo release for Fall, we have decided to NOT jump ship to CBR for FD since we couldn't get FD at POR for our dates (and also decided not to upgrade to AKL). We have to drop a couple of ADRs, but it would maybe only have saved us about $200 vs. OOP with some adjustments since we booked earlier this year before price increases.

Funny, I am SO excited about POR and I think I convinced DH that as well, that we just wouldn't be as happy with CBR. He's 6'4" so the sleeping situation with doubles also wouldn't be so great. DS7 loves the fact that we can use the POFQ slide too, so I would hate to disappoint him, DD5 loves Princess Tiana. We are saving about 19% now with AAA with what we booked compared to current rack rates, and we aren't THAT into food/ADRs that it would make or break our experience, and we actually have more flexibility now too, I can get an appetizer and skip the dessert! Skip the ADR and just grab a quick bite when it fits... :rolleyes1

Anyway, just sharing, putting some things into perspective which isn't easy to do in just one day - place value on resort amenities over food and ADRs basically.

I love this thread and so glad I stumbled upon it months ago. It's really help in our planning and our desire to (continue to) stay with POR as our resort choice. Thank you Andre and Venomhatch especially!!! pixiedust: The information you have provided has been invaluable! Can't wait for October!

Now to check out this webcam...

Honestly, we stayed at CBR on our very first Disney trip back in "99. The bus experience there was HORRID. I know that a lot has changed within the system since then (better routing, planning etc)but once you have such a bad experience at a resort, its hard to go back.

I don't think we would EVER stay at CBR again. Since I could not get FD yesterday at our originally booked POFQ our choices in this order were POR,CSR and then CBR. I most likely would have settled for no free dining before moving to CBR.

I'm happy that you are happy with your decision.Sometimes its best to go with that "gut feeling" over all else.Happy Planning :surfweb:

Care to share? I'd love to have this info just in case we need it. My dad is traveling with us and loves it really cold at night.

Is the AC unit now one of those that turns off when it doesn't sense movement in the room?

Disney World property is very big, so they talk about "areas." If you look on google earth, you will see that Port Orleans is just to the right of Epcot, north east of Hollywood Studios, and north west, and not far, from Downtown Disney. It is actually a very convenient resort. You can take a bus to anywhere in Disney World and a boat to DTD. You can also drive to any park or resort on property. It is a very short drive to Epcot or Hollywood Studios and a longer drive to Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. You cannot drive directly to Magic Kingdom so buses are best. At the resort bus stops you will get a separate bus for each resort - they have a sign on the front you will see as they approach. I prefer relaxing and using the buses, but will drive somewhere occassionally.

Thank you for your reply. It really helps!

Sure !

The instructions that I have say :

To adjust the temperature, follow these instructions: On the thermostat, push the power button and the down arrow (button that adjusts temp) at the exact same time. If you do this correctly, you will see the letters b/p where the temp normally shows. You are now bypassing the sensors in the room. You can then set the temp to whatever you want it to be and it keeps the room that cold whether you are in it and moving, or not (as in sleeping). You may have to do this once a day as the thermostat tends to go back to the sensor mode after 24 hours.
