I am STUNNED at POR only got a 5-10% discount this time around (I had anticipated it for POFQ, but never POR). So we made the jump from POR Royal to AKL for our F&W trip.

Hopefully next Spring we can make it back to POR one more time! Such a beautiful resort!

No they are not preferred. Preferred are located in the Alligator Bayou area near the main building. They will be the closest to the best IMO bus stop the South Depot which has the best chance of getting on bus and heading to where you want.

Thank you! I don't know much about this resort but am excited to stay here. So you are saying the Royal Rooms are closest to South Depot or the preferred rooms are?

Sorry for the confusion in my post, but the preferred are the closest to South Depot.

I'm looking for more information on the fishing. I've read that poles are rented until 1:15 on one site and 2:15 on another site. Which is correct? Does it vary by season? Also in the FAQ's it states that you can bring your own, if so can we fish later than when the poles are rented? If you don't know is there a number I can call to ask? :wizard:

Why is everyone complains about walking ? I have stayed at Carribean Beach many times, I enjoyed the walk. Your on vacation!!!
I look forward to staying at Port Orleans Riverside (58 days), and yes I do have two little ones and they walk also.

Its vacation stop and enjoy your surrounding.

My pet peeve is actually the people with the scooters who get on the bus. Some of them cant even drive them, then they park it stand up and walk on the bus. That gets me mad !

We stayed in Parterre Place in June. The South Depot was the closest for us based on our room location.

HTH!

People with a heart condition can walk a short distance. Or some people with a serious illness can walk but not for long distances. Disney can take 5 to 10 miles of walking in one day! Don't judge what you don't know. My wife can walk a short distance after foot surgery on both feet at once, but cannot spend all day on her feet. You would see her walk, but she may be using a cart if the recovery is not complete before our trip.

The stopping and enjoying is not the problem, its all the walking to get to the point to stop and enjoy. ;)

This may be more of a general question rather than POR, I did a room only reservation on wdw.com, and i bought my tickets on undercover tourist, and they should be coming in the mail soon.. When i go to check in at POR can they put the number of days of tickets i have on our KTTW cards so we only have one thing to carry???

Be thankful you are in the position to enjoy the walk and don't need one of those scooters yourself. Many others aren't in the same position. Just because someone stands up and walks onto the bus, doesn't mean they can walk 8 miles in the park that day! My mom and dad will be sharing a scooter off and on. My mom has had 9 surgeries over the past 25 years, including two failed knee replacements. She walks with a cane but needs a scooter in the parks. My dad has neuropathy and loses feeling in his lower legs and feet. You would never know this by looking at him, but I do think he will be using the scooter more than my mom this trip. Believe me, both of them wish they didn't need to use them. They are difficult to drive in a crowd of people, so much so that in previous years my mom has chosen to forego using one at the magic kingdom on occasion and dealt with the pain and swelling back at the hotel instead. It really isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Please try to be a bit more sensitive to those who aren't fortunate enough to be able to enjoy the walk.

Ok come on no fighting in here. This is about staying at POR and sharing trip info. Please refrain from going down this road. Its Disney World a place to be happiest at!

We stayed in Parterre Place in June. The South Depot was the closest for us based on our room location.

HTH!

:wave2: We're always bumping into each other! I'm booked right now in a royal room (did a bounceback when we were there in June) and I didn't make any requests at that time. I keep reading that Oak Manor is a lot closer to the main building (and can see so on the map), but is Parterre Place really that out of the way? How far could it be? If you had to compare it to walking from somewhere in the Epcot resorts area to something else in that area, what would you compare it to? Just wondering if I should make an Oak Manor request before our November trip.

Yes. We had this done during our visit this past May.:thumbsup2

Just got a Free Dining quote for Dec 12-16 staying at POR!!!:banana:

I'm already trying to decide if I should make some sort of location request, or let the Disney Gods decide. :p

This has me wondering.

We are doing a Royal Room Garden View.

I did not request Oak or Parterre, just that we be on an upper floor by the elevator. (mom has knee problems but she doesn't want 1st floor, critters don't you know). I figured it wouldn't matter. Should I request one building over the other?

My husband and boys have their heart set on fishing also! I'm hoping someone answers this question soon! :)

Are the Royal Rooms considered to be in a preferred location? I was hoping to book POR preferred but nothing available for FD other than RR. I am just hoping to be close to the first bus stop...can any one help me?

The "first" stop varies. The South Depot is the "main" depot, and the Royal Rooms will be fairly close to that. If you are in Oak, you may be closer to the East Depot.

We always got on at the North Depot (we were in AB) because it was closest and we heard that the South Depot could be a zoo. We were not the "first" stop, but we had great luck with the buses, and we generally only stopped at the East bus stop before heading to the parks. So, if you get on at the East stop, you very well may be on the bus for a shorter period of time than if you got on at South.

At busier times of year, they run more buses, and at busier times of day, they run more buses. So, people's experiences vary wildly.

East Depot is the last to pick up and drop off. So buses could be really full by the time they make it there.

When I faxed my request, I asked for top floor and near the footbridge. We were booked in a standard room and received about the only standard, corner room in that stretch. It was very close to bridge. Loved the location. Room 9711, IIRC.

In EPCOT resort terms, our walk to the South Depot was less than BC to IG. It didn't bother us at all, even in that heat!

HTH

It's not that big of a difference. Oak is a little closer, but it's not like Parterre is in the boonies. They are right next to each other. One end of Parterre is nearly as close, and the other end might be a couple hundred yards extra.

The nice thing about POR is there's always something to appreciate about any building. Parterre may be a bit further from the bridge to the main building, but it is the closest to POFQ. So, if you are leaving the parks at night, and the POR bus line is super long, you can jump on a POFQ bus and walk to your room in less than five minutes. We used a POFQ bus to come back to Port Orleans once, and walked all the way back to AB, and it was ten minutes tops. But Parterre is a very short walk. And you're a little closer if you want to hop over and get beignets or use try out their pool.

True. Once, our bus was full from the North Depot and we headed straight to the park, skipping East Depot. Most of the time we stopped at East Depot, and everyone there got on. Sometimes my husband and oldest son would give up a seat to a woman or child, and/or I'd have my youngest hop on my lap to make room. So sometimes the bus was full, but in general, we weren't leaving people at the stop.

However, most of the time, we were leaving pretty early, to arrive at the parks before rope drop. If you leave at a busier time, you might have a different experience.
