Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part Two [Thread now FULL and closed]

hello everyone! We will be arriving at POR next week and will have a rental car only because we want to visit other locations and we're control freaks. :)

What I'm trying to figure out is what time should be leave to be at MK's rope drop? We are planning on being there next Thursday which means it will open at 8AM. I understand that parking at MK also means taking a bus and then the monorail to get to the actual park? So if we leave POR at 7:30AM, would it be possible to make the MK rope drop at 8AM? Thanks for any suggestions!

7:15 at the latest. Drive, park, tram, monorail, security, turnstiles. It will take more than 30min.

Well it is official. We are heading to POR next year. Booked a royal room requesting for Oak Manor for DD birthday!!! I am super excited now.

Oh and as a note, was told by our TA that there will be no more free dining this year.

OK, I've done the rest of the 2014 room rates now.
Andre

Thanks Andre! I have stayed at POR/Dixie Landings many times since 1997, and in the last couple of years I have visited your Web site before each trip to find something I need to know or to check on new developments. Sometimes I visit your site even when a trip is not planned because 1) I like POR, and 2) I like your Web site!

Is anyone arriving tomorrow or already here that wants our extra groceries? Chocolate milk in shelf stable containers, apples, applesauce, puffs, graham crackers, etc. PM me if interested. I would hate to throw it all away.

If no one here takes you up on your kind offer, ask your neighbours or families you see walking past the door. I love random acts of kindness.

Why thank you, I'm always pleased when people find the site useful. Glad I could help you.

Does anyone have any experience as to good locations for garden view in the AB? I know 16 and 17 are the best choices to be close to main building? Is one better than the other? Anyone not like these buildings? It looks like 26 and 38 might not be bad either. Anyone stay in either of these? We have 3 kids 11,9 and 6 when we go June of next year. We plan on eating breakfast in the foodcourt at least 2 or 3 times in the morning before the parks and we will be getting mugs.

Thanks!

I'm only up to page 36 reading this thread....I was wondering when we arrive at the airport and take the Magical Express....does it just stop at French Quarter and Riverside, or does it stop at other resorts as well?

Thanks!!

I'm glad your TA has a crystal ball, can he or she give me tonights Powerball numbers?

I don't even think Disney knows if there will be anymore free dining offers this year. If bookings don't come in as planned I would think they would do something, possibly free dining, maybe not. Don't believe everything you hear.

Now don't take me wrong, I'm not putting your TA down it's just that the discounts this year have been so different from the past few years that no one can say with any certainty what the future discounts will or will not be.

It stops at other resorts....but hopefully not too many because we'll be using it next week!

It most likely will stop by Saratoga Springs, Old Key West, and then hit the Port Orleans Resorts.

She had said they had just had their company meeting and that is the information the company was given. Next free dining most likely wont be until January. That is what they were told.

OK, because it's quiet and a bit too hot to be outside at the moment (in the UK, shock horror, same daytime high as Orlando today!)... or just because I've got far too much time on my hands :) ... I just generated the following from the raw rack rate data:

As I said before, look at what happens to POR King Bed rooms during Summer season (from start of June to start of Aug) - they go DOWN from the previous prices. And also the categories seem to 'bunch' more in the Fall from mid-September onwards, with the lower-category rates moving up to meet the higher ones (except the RGRs, which do the opposite). In short, it makes no sense...

That's interesting! I wonder if it's a mistake or less couples only visiting in prime summer months?!
Thank you for all the work you do to keep everyone so well informed. Your info and site are just invaluable to us!!!!!

Help, to request a fridge or not?? We will be there 9/2 - 9/8, no medical necessity and not keeping meals in room. We've been six times before but never had in room refrigerator and made do with little ice bucket plus refillable mugs. The only reason I was looking forward to the fridge was to store milk for my coffee and extra drinks considering free dining plan and having the mugs. Since we will get drinks with our meals (breakfast mostly) but have the mugs.. Planned to store them for cold in room drinks after parks. My dilemma is I do not want to request one and get it, then a family needing it for food (in room meals) not get one. I'd feel awful. My girls (9&12), DH and I are physically capable of walking our butts to the food court to get our mugs filled at night. So, my question is: should I even bother calling in a request for an in room refrigerator?? Thanks all!

Help, to request a fridge or not??

Just put in a request for a fridge "if available", also mentioning that it is not for any medical reasons if you wish. What have you got to lose? At POR I think you'll probably stand a good chance anyway, especially by September.

Thanks Andre! I think I will take your advice, it sounds like a very reasonable plan. Plus, as you mentioned it may not even be necessary by September.

I'm sure this had been asked before but I can't find it. I have some room requests noted on my reservation ( close to main building, upper floor). If I do online check in, should I just leave the room request section blank? I am planning to send a fax about 5 days before we leave.
