Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part Three (NOW CLOSED, see 2014 thread)

Just back yesterday from our 2nd stay at POR. I absolutely love this resort!

This time we stayed in Bldg 15, it was nice and close to everything. There were 4 rooms in our party and we were all in a row with the last two being connected. It couldn't have worked out any better!

I love the renovated rooms and the little murphy bed was perfect for our dd.

The new bedspreads were like a lead blanket! So heavy and hard to maneuver but I loved the heavy feeling of them. Dh didn't like them, but he's not a blanket guy.

I left money for housekeeping everyday but they didn't take it once. I don't know why????

The food court was as good as I remember and as busy as I remember :rotfl2:

The busses were quick and usually full, but we never had to wait long for one, and I'd rather stand than wait 20 mintues for another bus.

All in all it was another great stay :)

The October 2013 Recreation Activities and Movie Schedules for Port Orleans Riverside are now available, including special Halloween activities. See the main Recreation Activities Schedule page for full-size PDF version, or click on the image below.

The evening campfires commence at 6pm this month, and the Movies Under the Stars will be screened at 8pm (except for Halloween which will be 7pm/9pm).

Halloween Activities for 31 October include:
  • Disney Character Meet & Greets
  • Candy Corn Guessing Contests
  • Scavenger Hunts
  • Cake Walks
  • Monster Mash Dance Party
  • Costume Contest (all ages)
  • Pumpkin Decorating & Crafts
  • Trick-or-Treating
  • Haunted Campfires
Reminder: the Riverside campfire site on Ol’ Man Island is still closed at the moment, but the main refurbishment work has now been completed apart from some final safety checks, so it should hopefully be reopened by early October. In the meantime guests can still use the new French Quarter campfire site.

Thank you! We'll be at POR on Saturday (only 6 more days!!). Will this be included in our packet we get at check in, or should I print it out?

I'm really surprised that no-one has commented on this new addition at the South Depot bus stop... :thumbsup2

At present it is only at the Riverside South Depot (with no immediate plans for the outer stops or at FQ) but it's still a very nice start! The TV itself has been in place for several months by the way (I noticed it last trip) but it has only recently gone live. (Thanks for the photo D!)

We saw this, it was wonderful. It was turned on about our 2nd or 3rd day. It is only one the first stop (closest to the main building).

The timings were spot on. The busses arrived within 1-2 minutes of the time on the monitor.

I am SO excited! We leave in just 24 days! I just returned home from a week at the beach so those days should fly by!!!

Yes I put it in a mousekeeping envelope! I tried setting in on the sink, on the table and then the nightstand. I did this same thing the last time we stayed and they always took it :confused3

After lots of waiting and reading everything I could find on POR, we finally had our trip to POR/WDW. Our room was ready when we arrived at 10:30. I did do online check in. The CM who checked us in was SUPER friendly and funny. We got some Pixi Dust and were upgraded to a Royal Room Garden View from a regular Garden View room. Our room was amazing, 9741 in Parterre Place. We had a great view of the courtyard and the River. We did not have a fridge, but they gave us the $15 credit with no issues. When we asked for it they asked why we would have needed one and I told them we would have brought some food and drinks to keep in there but did not since we received the letter saying they were being replaced. We never waited very long for a bus. They were full buses, and we did end up standing most of the time, but that was by choice so others could have seats. We were kid free this time, and really, standing for a few more minutes in the span of the whole day isn't a big deal with no kids. The grounds at POR are gorgeous. I love going in September when the crowds are so low at the parks. We walked on to almost every ride between FP+ and EMH. LOVED the Magic Bands and PF+. We didn't really even need to double dip and use paper fast passes. My favorite thing about FP+ is the ability to change times or attractions on the fly. We had a FP+ for Splash Mountain and saw that it had a very short line one day, so we went ahead and rode it and changed our FP to something else. It adds a LOT of flexibility over having to return to a ride at whatever time you get when we get a paper FP. There was a FP+ time we missed and we were able to go back and change it till later, even though it was past the time window. I think PF+ will really help with feeling less rushed, and less going back and forth across the entire park just to get to the ride you have a FP for. It was also great having the bands and not having to dig out cards when we needed them. Super great trip and we will definitely be back!

I'm sure this is posted somewhere but I can't seem to find it today. :badpc:

Does anyone know what the Tax Rate is at Disney?

Thanks!

I think the state and Orange county combined are 6.5% -- I don't know if there is a "local" tax as well.

Good day everyone. Ohh okay someone got to the tax question before me. Good to know. Hey I am formerly from VA. What part, Aslander?

It was not included in our packet! I had to reference Andre's site when we were there! Must have been an oversight.

It should have been given to you at checkin, or maybe in those fancy new blue folders that they are placing in the rooms? Either way, you can always ask for a copy.

Andre

Sounds like a dumb question, but how does one go about getting a cab from the resort for a few different resort ADRs and Fantasia Gardens? Should I reserve several days in advance, call day of, a couple hours early? Not sure who either. Advice is appreciated!

Just let concierge know and they will call one for you. It may take around 15min before one can arrive.

We are planning our 2nd trip to WDW on Oct 24-Oct 29 and will be staying at POR (1st time).

Our kids are 14 and 11 and we were wondering which would be more fun and better suited for their ages - AB or Mansion side? :confused3

Also, we currently have reservations for a Garden View room but would love to be near the food court and main pool. It will be my birthday when we are there - would you mention this in the request in hopes of getting a better room?

Thanks!
