Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part Three (NOW CLOSED, see 2014 thread)

I stayed at POFQ in 2000 with 2 other adults and really loved the feel of the resort. I am now considering if I want to stay at POR or again at POFQ. I may be doing a solo trip, or I may have up to 3 other adults in the room with me - this is for September 2014.

Important to me:
- Good pool for sunning and swimming
- Pool bar
- Quiet room
- Convenient food
- Not waiting forever for a bus to the parks

Not important to me:
- walking distance from my room to food court or bus stop
- room view

Which resort do you think I should choose?

This thread is so helpful, thank you to all for the great tips and reports!

We are allllll the way in the back of building 26, about a ten minute walk to the main bldg which is fine but we also have no fridge to drink cold water from. I'm pretty bummed with Disney today. We also have no bedspread so I will likely freeze tonight but it is what it is. I am in Disney so I can't be discouraged for long.

It's also like a cool 65 out right now! Why why why :(

Have you talked to the front desk about the issues?

It really is as good as a brake. The electric motor is so "tight", that it stops the scooter very quickly. They don't have separate brakes because there is no need.

But perhaps not AS fast as a brake would, according to my friends who use scooters. Which is why it's so hard when people cut in front. It doesn't stop on a dime.

THERE IS NO BRAKES ?

I didn't mean that you can't stop it or to scare you. I literally meant there are no brakes, you stop it by not accelerating anymore. Instead of Stop or Go, it's Go or Stop Going. :)

We are here now and loving it! Our RGR didn't have bedspreads but my family in another room did. It definitely takes away from the overall theme and decor without them.

The resort is lovely, CMs are nice and the pools look great (just a bit too cold for us to swim yesterday and it was closed for maintenance when we would have wanted to anyways).

Sadly, we witnessed some people stealing in the store so we reported it to the staff. I was shocked at how much these people took. Sad.

Our kids love it the entire experience so far (as do we)!!!

That's interesting. It may be different according to type and brand of scooter, because ours stopped too quickly! When Patty started driving, she'd let off the throttle and it would immediately jerk to a stop! It was actually annoying until you got use to using the throttle. It also depended on the speed setting. I assume some brand scooters don't stop so fast. Ours was light and fast so that may be why.

I a do agree people cutting in front can be annoying, it's hard not to hit them sometimes.

I think I read that there is a hot tub at POR? Is it child-free or are kids allowed?

Yes, there is a hot tub by the pool and I saw kids using it constantly. I did not see a sign forbidding children.

I was listening to a WDW Today podcast, comparing the different moderate resorts - I think they've pretty much swayed me to stay at POR over POFQ. :)

I have a few questions. I really like the Magnolia rooms more than AB. I'll request those rooms, but what's the likelihood of getting that request? I'm going late September 2014, and it's also going to be my birthday. :yay:

Also, I was wondering for the quiet pools, are they really that quiet? I'd think that most kids would go to the main pool and not use the quiet pools.

Thanks for the help! I'm excited to try out POR and learn more about it here!

Good morning POR fans and guests! Today is most magical for everyone, it's Friday!!! Hope you have a magic filled day!

It was always full of kids when we were there in September. Our 6 year old DD wanted to go in too but it was stayed crowded, at least when we were at the main pool.

The quiet pool between Oak Manor and Parterre Place was actually pretty quiet during our stay in September. We swam there while doing laundry one night. Our 6 year old made a friend and she liked the quiet pool even though there is no slide.

See first FAQ post for the latest updates, at the moment it's looking like not much will improve until towards the end of November.

Andre

Thanks! We are flying in 12/30 and like to stop at Publix on the way for breakfast stuff. I will be watching for your Nov update!!

Bumbershoot - congrats on your weight loss! That's awesome!

I seriously never thought about scooters not being able to stop. I hope I haven't cut someone off in the past. I will definitely be more aware in the future.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! 4 days away and just finishing up things around the house this weekend!! Yayyyyyy!

There is a small hot tub. Kids are allowed to use it, which is somewhat bad for the adults. When we were there a few weeks ago there were two different times my hubby went to get in, but couldn't because it was full of kids who were treating it more like a kiddie pool. There was a lot of splashing which took away from the relaxing aspect :). However, the main pool and slide more than made up for it!
