Well, long story short, I surprised my gorlfriend with a trip to DisneyWorld for Valentines Day.

Got a last minute deal online at Orbitz, or somesuch, for 3 nights, Ultimate Parkhoppr Passes and airfare for a pretty decent rate, so I jumped on it.

Turns out they are putting us at Port Orleans Riverside.

I have noticed a few threads of POR vs. this and that resort, but what in POR is a 'not to miss' attraction?

I havent been to Disney since I was in HS, at least 10 years now. And being a last minute thing, I haven't had time to plan anything.

So any help is appreciated.

Don't want to go down with no plan and miss out on a lot of stuff.

Thanks

We always enjoyed just walking around POR. The theming it terrific and the landscaping is truly beautiful. Very peaceful. Try to catch Bob in the lounge. He plays the piano and it's a great show. Relax by the pool with an 'adult' beverage. Your girlfriend is lucky indeed!! Have a great trip!

Koko, I was one of those POR vs posters. We stayed in OCT/03 and had a blast. The only reason I asked about POR vs was because the resort is awesome but I wanted to experience something new. Definitly dont miss Bob at the bar! The omelets in the food court are great and very filling! The main pool is fantastic and has its own bar to order drinks and also has a jacuzzi. There are several quiet pools on the property. They are a good choice late at night after the parks have closed. Most times there are only a handful of people there. Could be very romantic. I had 2 kids with me!

You will love this resort! Make sure to let us know how your surprise trip is and post when you return!

Wishing everyone a "magical" day!

you have been placed in a very nice resort. We stayed here in 2002, my first return trip since 95.
My girlfriend and I went and found it to be a very romantic resort. Such great times there.
There really isnt anything that you HAVE to do, well maybe aside from a nice walk along the river and a stop by the river roost on your way "home" from the parks. Here you will find a great time with the Piano guy, Bob.

eat at boatwrights for b-fast.
Yes their omlets are awesome.
But the strawberries and cream was wicked nice
:)

What a nice boyfriend you are! :D
I've stayed at POR a number of times and it truly is one of my favorite resorts. The first thing you have to decide is what building to stay in. PORiverside has two kinds: alligator bayou and the mansions. Both buildings are very nicely themed and beautiful but the mansions are probably the most romantic. They have a great food court with many choices and a breakfast at Boatwrights is always great. One of my favorite things to do is take the boat over to Downtown Disney at night and have dinner. This website is really helpful for anyone staying in a new resort. Have a wonderful time!! :wave2:

You are a great boyfriend! I've never been to POR, but I've heard so many wonderful things about it. I've heard it is really romantic - perfect for Valentines Day. For a romantic evening, try one of the GF restaraunts or better yet - the couples massage at the GF spa. It's fabulous! One of the best things we've ever done at Disney! Have fun! You are sooooo sweet.

We're heading there in 18 days, I've been hinting at DH what a nice "suprise" it would be to take a carriage ride around the resort on my birthday. How reminicent it would be of when he proposed, etc. What a great guy you are to suprise your girlfriend like this. Have a great time!

We love POR too! We styed there in 99 and then went back on 2000 just for breakfast at Boatwrights (the banana stuffed french toast is yummy!) and we rented surrey bikes. They are loads of fun. This resort has a sort of romantic quality to it. Like Gone With the Wind and the deep south. We had a room in the Alligator Bayou section which was nice and quiet and had little bridges and frogs croaking away (not sure if these are real or piped in???) but the sure made it feel like we were living in the bayous! The food court is great, lots of selections. The resort is centrally located on property so it doens't take long to get anywhere. You will really enjoy this resort!

My wife and I went in June 2003 withthe intent on looking at soem of the resorts and making a decison on where we wanted to stay on our next trip with the kids. POR was definitely nthe list as a place I wnated to check out. We went to several places...pretty much every hotel except AKL, Pop Century (was not open), and Fort Wilderness. We were looking for a "home resort" that we really liked so much we would return again and again. We saved POR for last. When we went to the resort we were immediately hooked. It is the feel of the place. It get's to you. Everyone is different and some have not been thrilled by POR. It suited us well. It was the only moderate we really liked. I still have yet to stay there and only toured the grounds and lobby. The grounds are beautiful and have a romantic feel. The exterior of the buildings looked great, especially the mansions and we decided that we would stay in the mansions this summer. We took the boat ride to Downtown Disney on a warm evening and had a great time. This was a must do. The boat ride is very relaxing and can be a great way to get to a restaurant for a special meal with your girlfriend.

You really should take the boat to Downtown Disney for some great adult fun. The Cirque du Soleil show is incredible. Plus live music at House of Blues and dancing at Pleasure Island, where Mrs. Ambassador lost her tiara.

I just can't wait. I'll celebrate once I FINALLY get my confirmation from ORBITZ, who have put me through 13 hrs and counting of drama.
