Interested to hear if they did refund you the difference on the non river view the first nights stay? Love the pics by the way! Great great shots!

At least they managed to fix your issue before you moved in to your new location. Although we tried, they were not able to address the issue at check-in. We were two days of feeling unsettled and generally not happy with the situation until they were able to make things right and then not easily......it was like pulling teeth the whole time. Thankfully it did finally work out for us and we did enjoy our new location.

Yeah your right. If my stuff wasn't getting fixed that night I would keep taking it to the next supervisior until it got took care of. I am sorru to hear they couldnt fix it sooner.

Did they at least refund the $60 difference for the first couple of nights?

I hear about this happening all the time with different resorts and categories. It really surprises me that Disney doesn't address this some how. It must be a nightmare for the cm's to deal with.

Yeah I was wondering about that also. I was told they usually do refund you difference or move you to somewhere, even if they have to upgrade you to another level.

No they did not. They gave us two fast passes instead....doesn't really compare, does it? They did address the problem that we had so we didn't push the issue.

When they reprinted our new room keys/park tickets though, they had us all addressed as King, Queen, and Princess for each of my two DDs. I thought that this was a nice touch.

It seems, at best, to be a very underhanded and misleading practice by Disney. At worst, it is dishonest. $60 may not be very much money to Disney, but to us it is. It can be the difference between going out for dinner one evening after a horrible day or going home and having spaghetti because we should put that money away in our holiday account instead.

You must remember, as far as they were concerned we were in a river view room and their obligation was already fulfilled. It was only through a lot of rather intense discussion and being very assertive (not argumentative or unpleasant) that we even got the room changed. DH just stood firm until they did something for us.

The fastpasses, I agree, were inadequate as compensation for our troubles but what do you do? There is only so much arguing that you can do before you finally give up, let things go, and get on with enjoying the vacation which we did, very much. BTW for pp who asked, the fastpasses were general fastpasses to be used for anything......except Toy Story Mania as it turns out; we tried that one at Hollywood Studios but they said any FP attraction except TSM. Go figure.

So, will Alligator Bayou have the same decor now as the mansions (except for the royal rooms)? That seems odd to me. Sorry if that has already been asked, I didn't read all 102 pages!

Also, if I'm going in March 2012 and want queen beds, what building(s) should I request? Thanks!

I stayed in a refurb room at POFQ when they first came out and it was fantastic. Thinking of tying to score a refurb room at Riverside this time to compare!

I think the problem is that room categories are defined solely by their location - all of the rooms in a row which faces the river are classed as 'river view' for example. No reclassification is done to take account of the fact that the ground floor rooms might see the river well, but the top floor rooms may have the canopy of a tree blocking the view during the summer (leafy) months.

I guess they really do need to take that into account given that Disney are charging people a hefty extra fee to actually see the river though, rather than just facing towards it.

Nope, they will have their own new decor - reminiscent of the existing Alligator Bayou rustic theme, but "on steroids" as one manager commented to me.

Hi everyone! We just returned Monday from our first stay at POR. We had room 3904 (building 39). It was a bit of a walk to the food court, but we were right around the corner from a quiet pool which was nice. The bus service was the best we have ever had. Only one morning did we wait for a bus. We actually watched an Epcot bus pull out as we were just getting to the stop. I timed it and it was 14 minutes until the next Epcot bus came. This was the longest wait we had the entire stay. Loved the ferry boat to DTD - so relaxing! Will definitely stay here again!

All the mansions will be refurbished by then with queen beds, however Oak Manor and Parterre Place will be all royal rooms which have an upcharge. I think most of the AB buildings, or at least a good number of them, should be done by then. There is a tentative schedule on portorleans.org

Oh, that's good. I couldn't see those fancy beds and chairs in the bayou! Can't wait to see what the new AB rooms look like!
