Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread - Royally Refurbished for 2011

I tried to book two nights (October 27 and 28) at POFQ, my fav resort but no rooms available so they are holding a room at POR for me. I need to call back today and pay. When I call today I'd like to give them my requests for a room. I was hoping to request a refurbished room. I'm not too familiar with POR since I've stayed only at POFQ. Just looking at the map, I think I'd like to stay in Magnolia. I have allergies and asthma and thought a refurbished room might be better for me. Will the refurbishing be completed on Magnolia by October 27th? Thanks!

Donna

Sue and Gigi I know what your talking about I had the same things happen to me at FQ and POR. I definitly had the slamming doors and early or late check in while sleeping. One slam actualy got me up and to look out the door to see what the reason was.

Nope, sorry not at this time.

I agree maybe just ask some of the people staying here what rooms they had it could be a good guess that Arcadia and Maybe magnolia buildings should be renovated, but there is one member in this thread that has a renovated room right now. I don't know which building they is in though.

All the room catagories listed, is there any catagory I could choose to ensure a renovated room?

No. The only building done (assuming it's done, not yet confirmed) is Acadian House. Magnolia Terrace is supposed to be worked on right now and be done beginning of September-ish. All of the room categories except Preferred should be available in these two buildings, so you can book whatever category you want and request a renovated room. But if you book Preferred or are a family of 5, you will be in AB which isn't renovated yet.

Thanks nkereina, I wasn't sure if magnolia was done or not.

So, we are going to POR in January, unfortunately to early for a royal room, but I really would like to stay in Magnolia Bend, not Alligator Bayou (tne look just appeas to me more). We have booked a preferred room, or I should say MIL booked it, the trip is a gift. I want to say I have read on here that all preferred rooms are in AB. Is this true?

If so, what category should I Change to to have a shot at a refurbished room in Magnolia Bend?

Yep, they are all in the AB section.

I changed from preferred to I believe, waterview, as I was, like you, hoping to be in Magnolia. Hopefully, that will help, but don't know. Still requested Magnolia anyway. Hope we get it.

LOL, I know what you mean. It's so frustrating to know there's a DISer wandering around the parks right now with photos of the new rooms safely stored in a iPhone, but sadly can't get them to upload.

Andre

Hello fellow PO fans! We just returned last night (didn't want to come back ) from a 7-night stay at FQ. I am uploading my pictures now as I type, but wanted to let you know I did do some 'snooping' around at Riverside and took some pictures of the newly refurbished rooms in Acadian House. They are now working on Magnolia Terrace.

The new rooms look absolutely gorgeous! It appears that perhaps they took the privacy curtain away and added a door to the bathroom/sink area instead. The other change I noticed was that in addition to the dresser with the TV on top there is also a actual wardrobe next to it which appears to have taken the place of the small "closet" area where the sinks are.
The rooms looked like they were painted a sage green. I also saw they had new headboards maybe a 'maple' color finish and there is a picture of a mansion on each headboard. The chair seats were covered with a Wedgewood blue fabric and the curtains appeared to the same blue as well.
Anyway the rooms looked beautiful and I am quite excited to stay again in Sept/Oct! (hopefully we'll get the request of a refurbed room).

Sorry to be a tease without the pictures, but I promise I will come back and post as soon as I get them uploaded (even if they were only taken through the slats of the blinds). ;)

Waiting with patience for your spy photos. popcorn:: (this is so exciting)

As promised, I will post the pictures of the refurbished rooms in Acadian House. I apologize in advance for them not being great quality. It was getting dusk when we were strolling around Riverside, and I had to wander around the buildings to find a room with a light on inside. I truly did feel like a spy. ;)

This picture was taken from a room without the lights on - I just wanted you to be able to see the 'marble' top table:

After some wandering, I found a room with the light on:

Notice the pictures of the mansions on the headboards:

Notice the wardrobe next to the dresser with the TV on it:

It looks to me like they eliminated the privacy curtain and made the entry way to the sink area narrower to include a proper door (as I could see the hinges). Also, it looks like they included a wardrobe and took away the closet rod next to the sinks:

So everyone what do you think of the new rooms?

One more thing I wanted to add is that they had a lot of activities going on. We talked to some cast members who told us that the past week was the 'soft opening' of increased/new resort activities at POFQ and POR. We had a campfire and roasted marshmallows near building 6 at FQ (I have pictures I will post later). There were movies on the lawn near building 5 several nights and pool parties at both pools (POR and POFQ).

I have many more pictures of FQ as well as Riverside I will post after i get some :laundy: done! We truly had a wonderful stay!!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. :upsidedow

Yeah just remember water view could mean you get stuck with a pool view. So specify to them early or hope you get there early enough in the day and request river view.

They are beautiful!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited to stay here! I cant wait!!!!!!!!!! It will be our first time. I cant wait to see the royal rooms as thats where I am staying--hopefully they will be done:) Thanks!

Yay! Spy pictures! Thanks so much:goodvibes I think the new room refurb is very interesting. I look forward to seeing more pics taken from inside the rooms. Love the green color of the walls and what looks to be a real door to the sink area.

:cool1:THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting your pictures! The rooms look awesome! We are so excited for our trip in January!

Thanks for the pictures! I am loving the look of the new room! I wonder if the King Size beds will have those new headboards too!
