I apologize if this is redundant, but does anyone happen to know how long the walk is from a water view or river view room in Magnolia Terrace or even Acadian House to main building (food court, store, etc.)? Just wondering if it's a CBR type of walk across the bridge?

There is a bridge to cross, but it is a short one and only takes a minute to cross. Assuming a river view and not a pool view it wouldn't take long at all to get to the main building especially from Magnolia Terrace. We stayed in Oak Manor and walked to the bridge at Magnolia Terrace and I want to say the walk was only about 5 minutes.

I have had a river view at Parterre Place and only had a five minute walk to the main building.

Maybe 2 minutes from door to door.

we were in Acadian House..smack between the 2 bridges..At first, we were going to the North side bridge that crossed near the fishing shack and the Muddy Waters pool bar but then I realized that the South bridge was actually "closer" because you cross and then the main bridge is right there..I would say 2 or 3 minutes to walk from our room to the RiverMill

Out of curiosity is there a mosquito issue at the resort? Or anywhere at WDW. My wife is a natural magnet for them (one of the many reasons I married her! So I wouldn't be the magnet anymore :rotfl:). It just occurred to me with all the "swamp" and river themes there might be an issue, and the whole resort is built on swamp land!

Went to Maui, took a dip in the water to see if it was worth the effort (corals, fish etc), 5 minutes later she's waving me back to shore (on no a shark is after me??) nah mosquitos from a freshwater lake on the other side of the beach got her in the make-up chair and turned her into a Klingon!

I too am a mosquito magnet. If there is a mosquito anywhere it will go for me.( I also seem to attract fire ants)
We just returned from POR and I came home this trip with 2 bites.... I don't know if I got them at POR or DTD. Disney must do something pretty powerful to control the mosquitos as I usually return home with no mosquito bites.
I no longer pack insect repellant for trips to WDW.

Hello All!

Joining this thread as this is where we are thinking of staying on our first family trip next fall. Yesterday I called Disney reservations to inquire about the new rooms at POR. There will be five of us - 2 adults, 4 yr old, twin 2 yr olds. Having read various posts on the forum I was aware that upgrades are going on but wasn't sure if the murphy bed rooms would be dbl or the new queens. The agent I spoke to said again and again and AGAIN that there was no way the murphy bed rooms would have queens are there simply wasn't the floor space! So today I read the post that says someone has seen them with their own eyes?!! SHEESH!! So....are we positive that AB rooms will have queen/murphy? And does anybody know what catagory of room I have to book to get this? Finally, I've read that the AB rooms really aren't very nice due in part to the theming...

Thank you everyone for sharing your information. I so appreciate everyone's help!!

For a family of 5, the AB rooms are the usual assignment. You don't have to book any specific catagory to get them, unless you want water view, garden view, or prefered. These would pretty much guarantee you won't have a parking lot view, or at least not a direct one.
All of the prefered rooms are in AB buildings, while water view and garden view could be either side, and the royal rooms are only going to be in two of the mansion buildings.
As far a how nice a room is between the two sections, it all depends on your viewpoint.
The AB rooms are more rustic, but still very nice.
The rooms are all the same size regardless of which side you are on, same layout, just the decor is different.
I believe the the information provided so far points to all of the rooms having queen size beds, except the ones which have a single king.

if AB rooms are the same size, I don't know how they will fit a murphy bed in with a queen..maybe they are planning to put drawers in the closet area? It was narrow between the tv and foot of the queen beds..how would get around the murphy bed..that would be a fire hazard in my mind

AB has not been refurbished yet(starts Oct 25) so the rooms referred to were with double beds. We stayed at AB this past June and they had a trundle bed not a murphy bed! A murphy bed would not fit in the current rooms with double beds much less queen beds. The only murphy beds I have seen were at the cabins in fort wilderness. These were in the wall in the living room. I would call back and ask about them keeping the trundle beds and see what answer you get. If not you may want to check into the cabins which have the abillity to sleep 6-8 and they offer a kitchen!

No one knows for sure yet...we should know probably next month (?)when the first set of refurbs is completed.
There is speculation that they will be like this:

Which I could see happening if they new beds didn't have a footboard.

eta: not my pictures... found via google of Disney's aulani resort room with a murphy bed

That would be a pretty cool setup.

That would allow you a room in any section at POR in fact, not just Alligator Bayou, as one 2-year-old doesn't count towards max room occupancy (they would need to sleep in a pack'n'play or similar though, or just take an air matress with you).

If you prefer Alligator Bayou though, which does make a lot of sense, then the new AB rooms WILL have TWO QUEEN BEDS, and yes they WILL also have an extra murphy-style bed which pulls down from the wall under the TV. Storage drawers will be underneath it, as far as I've been told. Look out for some fun Disney Princess and the Frog detailing in the pull-down by the way, if they go ahead with that idea.

Someone really does need to get an email sent to the Disney Reservation Center though, as the stories they are spreading are going to start causing guest issues.

Andre

Thank you Andre! I have read many nice comments about the magnolia building and although I know that technically we can fit in one of those rooms, I have a feeling that multiple sleeping surfaces will be to our advantage. My 'I want a pretty room' self and my more practical mom side are having an inner struggle though! Being a year out from out trip (but am starting to plan out of sheer excitement), it's tough to predict if the now babies will be in pack n'plays or beds....and if in beds, will they be able to sleep with each other? Etc. etc.

While I think of it, do all resorts have bed rail type thingys that can be requested?

Wait is this fact or still in rumor mode?

I was wondering where they were going to put storage drawers! There will be a lack I think.

Would be nice if they added under bed storage drawers! For us, only daughter & me, the new dressers in Acadian House were enough, but I can see a family of 4 would have issues with not enough drawer space.
