the towels are only at the main pool as far as I could tell. Never saw any at the quiet pool. They are self-serve & available at all times. I did see return bins at the quiet pools which I thought was weird...if there are return bins shouldnt there be towel bins too:confused3

Yeah, I could NOT find the towels at the quiet pool, but I saw the towel return. I was like "What is wrong with me, why can't I find the towels?" Hahahah!

Will a full or queen air mattress fit in the refurbished rooms at POR? Teenage DD and DS obviously will not sleep in same bed.

A full would fit but I would suggest a twin. We moved the table next to the bed near the door as an "end table" and put the twin mattress along the wall and stood it up during the day although it didn't need to be stood up. With a twin there was room to walk through. A queen would block a walking path I think.;)

Shh!:ssst: Don't tell DH...I'm adding a day onto our POR stay. We usually stay at a DTD hotel our arrival night but we should be able to get an early flight down and with the room only discount it will be like getting a night free.

Hi everyone! Are towels available at all the pools at POR or just the main? Are they self serve, or is there an attendant present?

Yeah, I could NOT find the towels at the quiet pool, but I saw the towel return. I was like "What is wrong with me, why can't I find the towels?" Hahahah!

Towel issue is only at the main pool, and you just grab whatever you need. They are refilled all day.

For the quiet pools, take your room towels with with you to the pool. You can then either take them back to your room afterwards, or drop them in the towel bins located at all of the pools and ask mousekeeping for some more for the room.

My family and I will be checking in June 2 to POR. This is our first visit here and I'm kinda nervous because it looks so spreadout. If I requested a preferred room for a family of 5, in which area would I most likely being staying?

hi all,

I'm due to stay at the POR in 14 days time, visiting from the UK and staying for 21 nights.

What are the likelyhoods of us getting a refurbished room? Do they tend to fill up all the refurbed rooms first do you know, then the others last? Or complete random?

Another question, with regards to the wifi access...do you know if its fast enough to cope with skype video calls?

thanks :)

Hi I'm coming to Port Orleans Riverside for are first stay on property we have been 3 time before but have always stayed on Idrive
but as Disney were offering free dinning too UK customers and as we are not taking a hire car and with savings on parking on property works out cheaper with free dinning and with are 2 boys now 10 and 14 they will no longer get kids eat free so when I did the maths we spent $2000 on food and over $200 on parking and it cost £300 for insurance on the car for a three week stay so it's a no brainier to stay on site and just use a Taxi to get to universal and the trolley bus up and down Idrive.
I picked Port Orleans on price really and have been hearing that a lot of work has been done on the rooms and should be finish by August as we are not comming until the 16th.
But I would like to now if the other work on reception and other areas will be finished by then ? :yay:

If you have paid for a Preferred Location (which is a surcharged area, so you will have paid for it within your booking price) you would be placed in buildings 14, 15, 18 or 27. See map in the first post for the locations.

On your arrival date of 2nd June, buildings 18 and 27 will probably be closed for refurbishment, so that means you should get either 14 or 15 (which will mean an already refurbished room). So that would mean you'll be very close to the main facilities building and also to the South bus depot (use the shortcut pathway next to the parking lot by the way, very easy!).

By the time you check-out from the resort in mid-June, all bar four of the Alligator Bayou buildings will be either complete or currently closed for refurbishment. All of Magnolia Bend was completed a while ago. So your chances are pretty good to be honest, but it can't do any harm to add a request to your booking too. Without any specific requests, they would most likely allocate by room-type rather than looking at whether specific rooms have been refurbished or not.

The in-room wi-fi speed is adequate, but not really ideal for uploads and outgoing video calls. It's much faster in the common areas such as the lobby by the way, and I believe the poolside wi-fi is also pretty quick (talk about showing off though!! LOL)

Watch out, the Brits are coming! (we arrive the same day as you in fact)

All of the refurbishment, including the lobby, will be complete by then. There's always some sort of minor work going on of course (landscaping, painting, etc) as it's such a big place that work carries on year-round, but all the recent major work will be complete.

Thanks Andre,

sounds good chances then :) Don't mind which section go to (well more that I can't decide which section is best - having never been there - as each section has its pros and cons). Never liked the original photos of bedding etc at Aligator Bayou, but the new videos look nice and much more subtle colours etc.

Is it possible to email a request?.....I've read you can fax requests over, but don't know anyone/anywhere with a fax machine these days. Have all the beds in refurbed rooms been changed to queens from doubles? must admit, wifey and I will have a bit of a squeeze on a double bed, but queen would be great. Kids would be ok sharing a bed, but the 'trundle' or pull out beds at Bayou would be perfect for that extra space so they don't decide to wake each other up tossing and turning

You can't email requests I'm afraid, it's fax or phone. You can call your travel agent beforehand to get requests added to your booking, or phone the resort about 3-5 days before you arrive (ask to speak to the room allocation team, not just the call-centre people who answer the phone).

Yes, all of the refurbed rooms have queen beds, so it sounds like you need to request a Refurbished Alligator Bayou room if you'd prefer the murphy bed. Let us know how you get on - assuming the wi-fi works! :)

Andre

thanks again Andre. I'll be sure to call closer to the time.

Not sure what to actually ask for to try to make sure I get a refurbed Aligator Bayou room. That extra bedspace, plus Murphy (presume that is the replacement for the trundle) does sound good though

Main reason for wifi, saves me having to take my mobile (expensive to run over there) - worst case if speed not good for video, I'm sure it'll be fine for just voice :) just for the kids to speak to gran etc...other than that, just the odd check of emails at end of day :) I've set up Hullomail to redirect voicemails to tablet over wifi - so all work related stuff won't cost me a fortune to listen to when they mostly ring just to waffle nonsense :)

Hey Andre and all,
When we were there in March, we were in building 38 which we really liked. :lovestruc It was close to the bus stop, North I think, and because we're a family of 5 and always stay in AB, I chose this building so that we could walk through the mansion section for a change on our way to the main areas.

All that to say, I've been meaning to tell you that our Wifi was awful while we were there. :upsidedow I couldn't even connect half the time. Someone that worked in the food court told me that there was something that happened in the area to a tower and maybe that was it but I'm not sure.

Loved everything about our days at POR as usual, except the reception. I wonder if it's always that way in the farther out buildings.

By the way, for all who wonder about distance and walk time, it took us less than 5 minutes to walk to the main buildings, and such a beautiful walk!

Adding to Andre's post, if you have NOT payed for a preferred room, I would suggest the newly renovated building 16. We stayed there last year and loved the location. It is tucked right behind the preferred buildings and is still very close to the main building and pool yet has close access to the bus stop. You have a very pretty meandering path to the main building.

If you choose to request building 16, you should call and have it added to your reservation. I did not get the building I had requested when checking in but when I nicely told the CM my request he worked it out for us. (This is a vote against online check in by the way, if a request is made.)

Hope this helps! You will have a wonderful time at POR! Don't let the walking bother you....soak it in and enjoy your surroundings. :goodvibes I learned this from experience! ;)

Just that, a "refurbished room in Alligator Bayou". The more complexity you add to the request, the less likely it is to be fulfilled.

Andre

It is a little grassy/courtyard area. We are on the opposite side of the bldg from the river. Also very close to where the nightly movies are shown. FYI we have found the main bus stop to be just as if not more convenient than the one for our building and it is the first stop.

thanks again! Any tips appreciated!:thumbsup2

Not where my room was. I just got back and was in the mansions, Acadian House, room 8235. It was a garden view room.

The internet was extremely slow in my room. Thank goodness I wasn't relying on it for anything. I just needed to use it once for my Kindle Fire when I found out I had put a book on my original kindle instead of the fire and needed to transfer it. It took 30 minutes.

I can't answer your question about the refurb rooms. The room I was in was refurbed. I think it was nearly the furthest garden view room in the Mansions you could get from the main area. I didn't mind the walk, it's such a beautiful resort.
It was close to the North Depot bus stop which was great at night.

I'm glad that I found this thread. Somewhat-Disney vets here, with previous stays at WL, CBR and Pop. We're heading down the 2nd week in December for 8 nights, and with a 30% off pin, jumped at the chance to book a "Royal" room.

Some questions for you veterans:

1) I requested Building 90, river view. When requesting such a view, does this mean that you will be at the very end of one of the legs of the building? By this I mean that you should look at the building as a letter "H" turned 90 degrees to the right. Would you normally be placed at the western-most extension of one of the wings of the building, closest to the water?

2) With a room near the east depot, what does this mean in terms of bus pickup, kids getting a seat, etc? Are we better off heading to the main stop closest to the main house?

3) Will it be a big deal to have an open pack and play (our own) in the room, along with a collapsed Graco-type stroller, and still have enough space to walk around? I'm thinking so, that it's probably very similar to CBR. The one remarkable thing is that I feel as though this room offers more "living space" than our room last year @ WL, where it wouldn't have been possible to add the pack n play.

Thanks for your help. I'm sure that I'll have more questions as time goes on.

is there a Photo Pass Kiosk at POR? I'm planning to upgrade to PhotoPass+ in July when we go and would love to do it as soon as possible.
Thanks
