Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread --- 2012, Part Two --- NOW CLOSED

Hello everyone! Just wondering what your opinions are on the Alligator Bayou lodges vs. the mansion buildings?

Also, for the Magnolia building, are the only areas where we can cross the river indicated by the light green lines that cross the water on the map? But the Standard view rooms in that building would be the ones on the side closer to the East Depot, is that correct?

The May 2012 Recreation Activities and Movie Schedules are now available at portorleans.org. The outdoor movies will start at 9pm this month, and the daily campfires commence at 7:30pm. Full downloadable PDF versions are available from the Recreation Activities Schedule page.

What I still don't understand though is why they used Port Orleans as an umbrella name, rather than only renaming the Dixie Landings section and leaving Port Orleans as it was. I know internally they share an overall management structure, but then so do the Yacht Club and the Beach Club I think. However from a guest point of view, they are sold as two completely different resorts and it still causes a good deal of confusion (we see it on here quite often for example) to have given them the same base name.

Andre

Never mind the folks on the DIS how about the poor confused operators at the call center?

I do have a question about the two resorts though. If you can share pools and other amenities can you refill your refillable mugs from POR at POFQ? Not that I plan to do this or anything but I am wondering.

I'm planning to bring items I've purchased from Disneystore.com and retail stores to make a surpise welcome gift for my twins after our arrival at POR. Does anyone know if I can get balloons at POR or if I bring some, will guest services or the general store blow them up? I received balloons at WL once so I wonder if resorts have their own helium tanks and balloons.

I have seen people using old Dixie Landings mugs, yes - but I've never actually had the nerve to try it myself though, LOL.

You're right though, they did specifically tell people until around the year 2000 that the mugs were sold as perpetually refillable (and the signage said the same). After 2000, the terms were changed and wording was printed on the new mugs saying that they were valid for the current stay only. Of course, the old agreement was only ever valid for the resort at which you purchased them, so if they wanted to quibble now they could say that technically Dixie Landings no longer exists.

Anyway, debate on this general subject is not encouraged on the DIS - but no harm in us referring to the facts I assume.

Andre

I think the people who bought the mugs back when- are within their rights to use them since they were sold as refillable for life. :confused3 Not many out there anymore, but i have noticed them once or twice at WL. I don't have one. Our first visit on site we had the Blue mugs, and it had the year on it.
I wish they went back to resort specific mugs.

I still have my mug from 1994, looked like this:

and the old key card, where the lock punched through the holes in the key like this:

18 years and a Royal Room later, we're coming back! :rotfl:

I even remember the date stamps on the furniture when we were there- are they still there in the refurbished rooms (not Royal Rooms)?

:thumbsup2 wow, that is so cool! I've never seen room keys like that! Thanks for sharing.

Canada Pavillion is set in the 1800s. That's why they wear the plaid. Because Canadians did wear a LOT of plaid in those days.

lol And they will NEVER wear hockey jerseys for the reason that they would never make everyone happy. We would all want them wearing our favorite teams jerseys.

Well, maybe no jersey wearing this year :rolleyes2

Hi Don, welcome back! I haven't been posting all that much myself. The NHL playoffs are on now so I've been busy just about every night watching the tube. Other then that I've been reading the boards, listing to Disney podcasts and counting down the days until our trip.

I also heard about Starbucks any word on when/where? Will they be at the resorts? The parks? Both? Starbucks is OK but I sure would like...no...Love to see Tim Hortons move into Disney World even if is it's in Canada at EPCOT. if you don't know what Tim Hortons is just ask any Canadian and they will know.

This ::yes:: With a roll up the rim to win.....a WDW vacay :goodvibes And they can serve Growers Cider, and Caesars ::yes:: although now you can get Caesars more & more outside of Canada.

I am so excited...my mom and I booked a stay at POR with my sister for December this year! I've been to Disney quite a few times now, but only stayed on site in 2010 for my honeymoon. Does anyone have tips for thing s to do with my mom..it'll be her first time at Disney!

Yes you can. Officially I mean, without bending any rules.

Just got back on Facebook what's the link to the page so I can like it?

There are social media 'like' buttons on portorleans.org now, but I posted the details here a few pages back too:

Quick question. Can you view Epcot's fireworks from POR? If so, which rooms/view do I ask for?

Not really, you can see some of the higher bursts above the treeline if you face West, but it's really only a few glimpses and some bangs.

Does anyone know if I can get balloons at POR or if I bring some, will guest services or the general store blow them up?

I don't know if they have helium tanks at the shop, but they might be able to arrange something if you ask. One time it was DD's birthday (she was about 5 I think) and we came back to our room mid-afternoon and found a birthday card and a signed picture from Sleeping Beauty and a helium balloon floating above it - it really made her day perfect! It's random little pixie-dust moments like that which set Disney apart from everywhere else.

Hahahah! As long as they're not wearing Bruins jerseys!(donning flame suit now)! :offtopic: I know, I know! I'm done! Hahahahah!

OH, and I forgot to mention last week when we were at POR (back on topic) I saw a lady with a fist full of the super old POFQ white and purple mugs and the more recent red mugs filling up at the drinks station! (sort of off topic again). I was horrified and nudged DH and said,"She can't do that!!!"

Some people will do that. There is nothing we can do... Unless you report them to a CM or the manager. I don't worry about those little things, it doesn't affect me. If they were cutting in line at the park, then I will get upset and tell them to get out.

thank you. And I thought you were done with hounding us about that. Everyone is talking about POR in some sort. You do an amazing job with the threads and thank you for that. I have no idea what you do for a living but this must take a huge amount of your time. We are thankful.

Thanks Andre. I mean it.

hearing about split stays got me thinking (which is not a good thing sometimes lol) I wonder if we could do a split stay in POR....half Royal Room and half AB?

Would that be like a huge pain in the butt or would POR make it easy by picking up our luggage & delivering it to the new room while we are in the parks?

I think it would be nice to try out the AB so princess can sleep on the murphy bed and my MIL can sleep in her own bed.
