It's me, DH and DS (6) and DS (3) and I booked the royal room for me! LOL! I figure we are staying in the Cars section of AofA for them during a later trip so I can be a little selfish. :)

I love it :lmao: Ditto for our trip, we're doing our first split stay and starting at POP then the grande finale in a Royal room for a few days.

DH & DS15 would probably prefer AB but DS is especially happy to get a queen bed to himself, is it wrong not to tell him POR will have queens in all the rooms by the time we arrive :rotfl:

Nope not wrong at all! :cool1:

After MONTHS of going back and forth on where to stay we decided on 2 POR rooms for our late August trip:cool1:
The Canadian free dining offer was extended the other day and all the room categories became available again (previously all that was left were Royal rooms) so we made the switch.

We stayed at POR 2 years ago and absolutely loved it. My only dilemma now is that I booked standard view rooms. I am not terribly excited about a parking lot view, but this trip needs to stay on budget as it is our second this year and it saved me $180 over garden view, which is quite a few extras, or even our tip money. Plus we'll have a car so it will be nice to be close to it.
But I will miss the pretty view out the window.

Who knows. I may upgrade still:rolleyes1

We are a family of 5 with three kids and we're staying at AB in September. Is it possible to get a roll away bed in AB rooms so we'll have four beds instead of three? The kids sleep much better when they don't have to share a bed. By the way, Andre, thanks for the FAQ thread and the great website:)

We get all consumed about the view and then we get there and I don't even look out the window. So....just walk out the door and around the corner and voila! Pool view or garden view or maybe even river view!!:rotfl:

Agreed! :thumbsup2

Since the upgrade to queen beds, they do not allow rollaways in the rooms anymore. We also are a fam of 5 and my kids dislike sleeping together. We take a twin air mattress, move the table next to the bed as an end table and put the air mattress along that wall. During the day, we stand it up. It works great!

I too have a DS15! You know what they say! What they don't know.....saves us from receiving attitude! ;):rolleyes1

Yes! There was the voice of reason I needed!:flower3:

It already cost us a bit more than the projected budget to move to POR from a suite at AoA. Before long I was about to talk myself into a view, that I probably won't care about when I get there. This is how I end up going over budget because it's 'just one more thing' until your 500 more than you wanted to be.

Standard view for us. It will be fine. Thanks!:)

You're welcome. I do exactly the same thing. It's the perils of the planning stage don't you think? We get so excited and it becomes hard to keep control. We went from 2 rooms at POR last year to one room this year in order to be able to do this every year. I thought we might be miserable but it turned out to be great family time. Who knew! Enjoy your planning!:)

Checked in for our first visit to POR at 12:30 AM last night. We did get our request for a refurbished room (building 36). Check-in was a nightmare though. They are renovating the lobby so they've set up a couple tables with 3 computers for the "check-in" desk. Two of the 3 computers weren't working and there was quite a line. Took over a half hour to check-in at 12:30 AM! I can't imagine what it must be like at a busy time!:scared1:

We also had a case of water delivered from Walmart. They had record of it being delivered but they couldn't find it. The whole check-in/front desk is total chaos! We did call this morning and they found it so we have to go pick it up. I hope that isn't another 30 minute wait!

Other than that the resort seems beautiful and the room is very nice. Fits our family of 5 well. Kids are 12, 9, & 7 and they are rotating sleeping in the "alligator" bed!

Off to Animal Kingdom today!

Oh my! We arrive tomorrow AM (leaving to begin the drive in just a bit!), I sure hope it isn't that crazy. :)
Enjoy AK today!

We are booked for Nov 23-30 for a garden view room in the AB (fam of 5).
Can anyone give me a suggestion for a building request that is reasonably close to the pool and foodcourt? I know the preferred are the closest, but what is next best?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can check out the first page of this thread for the resort map or on portorleans.org.

AB and Mansion buildings are delineated by color, so they are easy to figure out which side you will be on.

The buildings right behind preferred are still close to the food court and one of the quiet pools.

Just booked our return trip to PO last night.:yay: We will be going Oct. 20-27. This time we are bringing the ILs along. Hope they love it as much as we do.

And we got a free dining pin for the period we are there. So, we decided to splurge and get a royal room. DD is going to be so excited!

Hi! We leave in two days for our first stay at POR, we have always stayed at POP in the past. Can anyone tell me if it is alright to bring camp chairs to the movie showing in the courtyard at night? Trying to decide if we should pack them or not. Thanks!

It's funny you should say that. I originally had one room at POR booked. My ds who is 8 would fit in the alligator bed just fine.
The issue became that we invited dd's best friend. She is a lovely girl and won't be any trouble, but it would be awkward for all of us to share a bathroom and feel comfortable I think. Plus, I know dh would be uncomfortable without a door to close to relax a bit.
So the idea of two rooms was born and while it's more than we usually spend, the privacy for all of us is worth it this time. If it were just the four of us we'd do fine but there's a different element with another teenager along.

AoA and the cabins were another choice. But in the end, I just kept picturing the girls make up and hair stuff and clothes all over the main room and having to tip toe while they slept. Again, they are nice kids but not exactly tidy:rotfl:

I don't think there is such a thing as a tidy teenager! :rotfl2:

We arrive early Monday afternoon and after reading ShelsGoingToDisney's post I so hope we're not in the lobby forever trying to check-in. Now I'll worry myself silly about it. :upsidedow
