Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread --- 2012, Part Two --- NOW CLOSED

Hi All...I just got back this past Thursday from 10 days @ POR. All I can say is that it was HOT in July/August....won't be coming down in the summer again. Our room was lovely in The Magnolia section, garden room 8554 (I think). Very convenient --1st floor room , close to Bridge, quiet pool, main pool and as close as we could possibly be to the Food Court, considering we had a garden view room. I was very pleased with the room and location !!! :cool1: I did call in 3 days prior and put in my requests and happily they were granted !

Now the main reason I am writing is to see if anyone here on the Disboards would know what the "bathroom vanity"...double -sink and counter top was made out of. It was a very pretty white with grey/black specs and silver shiny particles...any ideas? Do you think it's Corian ? I loved it and would love to get something similar for my bathroom vanity at home.

Please let me know about the vanity , if you familiar with it. Any new pics would be helpful, too ......Thanks :thumbsup2

It almost looked like Corian to me when we were there....

My husband has to go to Orlando for business right before our vacation. He will be leaving Orlando Friday morning and then we will all be flying down again on Sunday morning. My question is...if I have him stop at store while in Orlando and stock up our cases of water/snacks/etc., would he be able to drop it off to POR Friday morning? Again, we will be arriving Sunday morning.
I just thought this would be a great way for us to get all our "stuff" to the hotel!:)
Thanks for your help!
22 more days til our first visit to POR! Super excited:)

Yeah, should be fine. Let them know if anything needs to be kept chilled though.

How long is the farthest walk from standard room to old man swimming pool and to Riverside mill. We will request alligator bayou and it does not look very far. I prefer not to pay extra for a preferred room or river view. But at Caribbean Beach resort, some of the rooms were very very far away from the main building and main pool. Port Orleans looks smaller than CBR. Thanks.

Does this sound correct? Longest walking time to Riverside Mill from Alligator Bayou room most far away is a 6 minute walk.

I used a map tool online to measure the radius from a point. freemaptools.com Looks like the alligator bayou rooms most far away... are 3/10 mile from Riverside Mill and same distance to Ol Man Pool. The mansion rooms most far away are just slightly more than 3/10 to R.Mill and slightly more than 2/10 to Ol Man Pool. The royal rooms most far away are almost 4/10. Then I figured the averag walk is a mile in 20 minutes which is 2 minutes for each 1/0th a mile.

I'd allow maybe a touch more for the very furthest rooms, depending on how fast you walk, but you're in the right general area.

I measured the longest distance from any room to the food-court as 500yds for both Alligator Bayou and the mansions using Google Earth's ruler-path tool (allowing for the best walking routes, as unless you can walk on water you can't just go by direct distances). Going to the main pool would be very slightly shorter.

I asked in a general thread on the resort board about swim vests for the kids. I know we can get ones for our stay from the marina. I got a response that the ones at the Poly are very nice. Do all the resorts have the same vests? Do they ever run out?

Arriving Next week: Has anyone been placed in a RR when they did not buy one? We are Garden view and I have requested The other mansions and plan on sending a fax. However, a RR would be Disasterous to us as we have 2 boys!!!

2nd - Do I need to pack towels at all? I'm assuming the main pool has towels there??? Will I be okay bringing room towels to quiet pools, and getting new ones? I know this sounds like a silly question, but do you just round up any maid you see, leave a note, or call someone if you need more for that purpose? Or do they leave sufficient amount for all your needs? I'm trying not to go pack happy.

3rd - Does the store there sell items like Children's Tylenol?

Thanks!

With the rooms being so new, I doubt there have been any upgrades. If you paid for a regular room and put in a request for the other mansions I bet you'll be fine.

There are towels at the main pool but not at the quiet pools. You can always grab them at the main and bring to the quiet pool if you don't want to use your room towels.

I'm at POR right now and the main pool does have towels but I've noticed the quiet pools do not. We took our room towels to the quiet pool and we had to call mousekeeping for some extra towels. We needed extra towels today too so we just took them from the main pool :confused3

I'm wondering if you can push the bed (in alligator bayou rooms) up against the wall or is it immovable? I was trying to avoid needing a bed rail for my youngest son....thanks for any input!

What you are asking for in a round about way if you can get a free upgrade. Very unlikely, because Disney has been very savvy about creating room categories based on requests, so having it available is highly unlikely.

Best to book what you want and do not be disappointed.

Actually they were hoping NOT to get the upgrade, as they have 2 boys, and don't want a Royal Room.

MissyTara- I think you misread, she's not looking for a free upgrade. She doesn't want to get one of those rooms through pixie dust because she has 2 boys and it would be disastrous. I take it they don't like princesses much. ;). My DS7 is the opposite, he cant wait to stay in RR and he can't wait to give all the princesses a hug and kiss! He especially loves Pocohontas and Mulan.

I always pack beach towels, but you really do not need to. There are pool towels available at the main pool, but as a previous poster said, not the quiet pools. You are allowed to use the towels from your room. Getting more towels is fairly easy (with our family of five, it usually takes Mousekeeping a couple of days to figure out how many we need). Just dial "housekeeping" from the phone in your room and ask for more to be brought around.....you'll have them within 20 minutes! :thumbsup2

Yes, Children's medicine can be found in the POR store as well as all the medic statios in the parks Even though I always pack it, I had three kids with fevers in 2007 and was running so low. I called the front desk to ensure it was available just in case we needed it pronto (without driving to Walmart). Just awarning: hubby said it was really expensive at the store....something like $10 for an item that normally costs $4.

Thanks!

Like webstah said, the OP was saying they DID NOT want the princess rooms.....they have 2 boys and would prefer NOT to have the upgrade (I'm one of the few people who agree.....give me a regular room! :)).

Hope this all helps and you have a terrific vaca!!!!

Ummmm.... actually no way! I have 2 boys and if they got stuck in a royal room it would be VERY bad, as I previously stated. I'm worried people will not book the royal rooms up and they may try to fill them due to the extra cost and that they may not appeal to all.

I Did book what I wanted.

Oops. I am so used to people looking to get upgraded my bad! Thanks for pointing that out....

Thanks for all your answers and especially to those of you who properly read my posts. Don't worry, I've been on Dis awhile so I know how it goes here.

I think I'll either just pack 2 smaller towels or I like the idea of just grabbing towels at the main pool if we're running short due to taking them to quiet pools. ( My kids like the main pools, but actually prefer the quiet pools more times).

Think I may just pack one bottle of Tylenol just in case, but glad to know I can get it.

Hey Webstah, you can always ask at the check in, " hey do you all happen to have any good rooms with a view left?" the worse thing they can say is no not really.
