Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread --- 2012, Part Two --- NOW CLOSED

I am loving this post with all these pictures. It is making me feel so anxious for our trip this November but we still have 105 days!

I hope someone can answer a question for me. I read on the POR website and looked at the pictures and there only seems to be one small dresser with 3 drawers. We have 4 people staying in one room. Where are we going to put all of our things?

August 27-September 2 :thumbsup2

Feels so good now that it's August, even though we won't be there till the end of the month. :lmao:

But we leave home on the 24th to spend a weekend in St. Pete with family, so I'm really counting down till then. Yes, it's cheating but it makes me feel better.

We're "cheating" the same way.

We won't be at Disney until the 13th, but we're leaving next Thursday. (It was supposed to be Friday, but DH is getting antsy and wants to go asap ;) ) We are driving from NY and spending the weekend visiting my brother and his family. The kids have a countdown chain and we're now at one week until we leave. :yay:

How do you enjoy a day or evening at the resort? What are your favorite activities? We will be at WDW for 10 nights. Will have park hoppers and prefer to be at MK for fireworks as much as possible minus 1 night at HS for Fantasmic and some nights at the resort and/or Downtown Disney. It's me (DH), DW and DS7.

Are there activities at POR during the day or is it mostly quiet until evening?
Anyone do the cane pole fishing? Sounds like fun for kids. And definitely want to ride with DS in a Sea Raycer.

I'm thinking some days we will go to a park at rope drop, do our favorite rides and come back to the resort for a long afternoon swim, dinner at Boatwrights at 5pm or Quick Service, evening carriage ride, and Yee Haa Bob. Will DS be allowed with us in the bar area where Yee Haa Bob entertains? I imagine the carriage ride is more fun after dark.

Downtown Disney doesn't thrill us... (I'd rather be in the parks) but thinking we will take the boat to DD for dinner at T-Rex and stay in DD for a little bit if there is live music outside (was on our last trip). Might also check out the new Splittsville bowling place that will be opening.

Just checked into POR last night. We requested Magnolia Terrace, and we got our request so we're happy. We only have a standard room so we are facing the parking lot, but literally about 1 minute away from the front of Magnolia Terrace. This is our sixth time at POR and the first time using the wifi. The wifi is really really good, shocked at how fast it is!
The only thing is, we don't feel like we have as much storage space as we used to, only one drawer each and around 10 hangers.

If you wonder why I am speaking as if I know everyone on this thread. Well... I do. Because I lurk a lot! I am trying to break that habit and join in the conversations.

I, too, am more a lurker than a poster. Pleased to meet you. :)

We always schedule a day "off". We just laze around the room reading, working on word puzzles, playing cards, watching movies on our DVD player (that, yes, I hook up to the TV). Then, we'll spend time at the pool. I wanted to go canoeing or kayaking last trip, but we were just too lazy to even do that.

This trip, we are planning on walking over to FQ and taking the boat to DTD again (we did that in 2009 but not 2011).

Like I said, lazy day.

Does the boat to DTD leave from POFQ or is there a boat dock in POR as well? We're (translate to I'M) planning on walking to FQ for beneits on a couple occasions for breakfast. ;) Speaking of which, are those considered a counter service or snack credit? :confused3

There is a boat dock at POR. The boat stops at POFQ on it's way to DTD.
The boat doesn't start running until 10am though.
Last year at least, 3 begniets were a snack credit.

Sounds like you have a good plan already! My family loves the water, so we spent a great deal of time at Ol' man island in the late afternoon and early evenings. The life guards come out and play games with the kids.

We only caught a few minutes of Yee Haa Bob on our last trip, so that is a MUST on our next one.

Whichever side of the resort you end up on, you can always spend a couple of evening hours looking around the other side. We stayed in Acadian House room 8220 then and I had planned to go over to AB and take pictures and just look around but didn't get around to it. So, for our 2013 trip I booked preferred location to make sure we end up in AB.

You can also walk or take the boat to the POFQ side and use their pool & foodcourt if you want to change things up a bit.

Have a great trip!

:cool1: YEAH only 1 more day until first time at Riverside...we have done French Quarter many times but decided to mix it up this time..has anyone done both and which do you prefer and why?? :wave2:

I've done both... and I can't choose between the two! I loved the size of POFQ, it was small and we were so close to everything. But I loved the size of POR when I was there too! It was nice to feel so spread out and the grounds were beautiful. Of course, I am the kind of person who can't choose which park to love best because they all have such good things!;)

Great, could you let us know a speedtest.net result, as a number of people have asked about this.

LOL... I can't believe I haven't stumbled across it before. :confused3

Sorry, I hid it carefully in the FAQs at the start of this thread... :)

You are such a prankster, Andre! Who would go look for FAQs there?
