Unless you have your heart set on Alagator bayou I'd request a room at Mangola Terrace. With a standard view room you would be close to the North bus depot and it's just a short walk threw the mansion then over the bridge to the main building. Andre has a map of the resort on the first page of this thread.

Last August when we went all I requested was to stay in a mansion and we were placed in Acadia house and upgraded to river view at no extra charge. We loved this location.

Do you recommend MT due to the distance of some of the AB, or if you had an AB close to the main blgd, would you still have a preference?

Did you feel that Acadia was just as convenient as Magnola Terrace to the themed pool & main building? If you had to choose, which of the 2 would you prefer?

We just returned from POR. Our only request was a refurbed room. We got Acadian House in a waterview room. The location was AWESOME! Love the new decor, too. POFQ is still our favorite mod , but Riverside is a very clrse second!

I've looked at some of the refurb photos, what color as your room & bedspreads over at Acadian House? I'm trying to figure out if they are the same interior as the Magnola Terrace. I really liked the cream colored white floral spreads, are those the news ones or were they the ones replaced :confused3

1 - do they have spray at the fulton store that you can use in the bathroom for smells:lmao: (like glade brand or such)

When traveling with my guys, I pack my checked baggage a favorite fragrance of Bath & Body Works spray perfumed spritz/mist wrapped up in plastic incase it were to explode. It is conveniently placed on the back of the toliet as soon as I'm unpacked for all to see & use. Works great on unpleasant male type smells encountered in close quarters AND doubles as a light perfume for me :thumbsup2

I've received an email from a resort guest who has just got back after visiting Port Orleans Riverside, and while they were at POR they took an evening stroll over to Oak Manor and reported back the following Royal Room progress update (info as of Friday 24 February):
1. Third floor rooms are near completion with all the decor apparently complete. They just need TVs, bed covers, blankets, pillows and cases.

2. Second floor rooms are further behind. They have carpet on the floor, mattresses in rooms, some furniture like bench seat, chairs, table, chandelier, main light fixture and head boards, plus apparently all bathroom fixtures and furniture.

3. First [Ground] floor rooms have just carpet done on about 65% of the building, with about 35% still getting removal of old decor.

In my opinion not going to be done on time at all - maybe third floor, but that is only how many rooms?
Remember that there is still a couple of weeks before this new section is due to open, and we know from previous work on some of the other buildings that progress is generally pretty quick, so I'm sure that the rooms will be ready by the opening date of 9 March - I very much doubt Disney would let the new date slip!

Apparently many of the window blinds were left open and some lights were on, and there were no 'keep out' warning signs or construction walls like the ones at French Quarter - just a standard Disney "Pardon our Appearance" sign set down in the middle of the pathway.

As it was obvious that there were no guests in residence, and no one asked them not to look, they snapped a couple of quick blurry pictures through the windows. Not sure if I should post them here though after some recent comments - does anyone have any objections before I do? (Note: cast members or construction workers were involved)

OK, I now believe it should be OK the post the photos that I was sent, so here you go. Taken through the windows in Oak Manor on the evening of 24 Feb:

Hi everyone.

I'm about to book a spring trip to POR. It will just be and the kids as DH has to work. DD is 11 and DS is 7. I'm debating booking a royal room or preferred location? What do you think? I would like to be in a refurbished room and close to the food court for coffee and breakfast. Thanks in advance. :goodvibes

IF you can get Alligator Bayou 14 then that is a Preferred Location (very close to main building) and it is already refurbished. The Royal rooms will all be refurbushed too of course, but a little futher away. By the end of May, several more of the Preferred buildings should have started refurbishment, but not sure if any will be complete.

I just got back from CSR in Dec and POFQ Feb 4th-11th. I also currently have bouncebacks booked for May 5th-12th at CSR, Sept 1st-8th at POFQ, and Oct 27th-Nov 3rd back at POFQ again. I'm thinking about switching resorts for my Sept trip, just to try something different. I've stayed at PORS before and enjoyed it, but my last stay was before the rehab and only with family. This trip would be solo. Will the refurb at PORS be finished by Sept 1st? Also how is PORS for a solo that will be dependent on Disney transportation? Not interested in the Princess rooms (or mansions period for that matter)--Is it worth it to pay for a preferred room in AB? I'd want to be close as possible to the main building, pool, and first bus stop.

I have never cared about having a preferred room.....I would rather just have one that is refurbed! Though, I am generally always happy with what I get, I hope that it is not a older (non- refurbed) AB room.;)

That is all we requested on this trip! We will see on friday!!!

I wonder what the odds of getting Alligator Bayou 14 will be during spring break. I'm betting everyone requests that building ;). I guess I will show my kids both of the rooms and let them pick and hop for the best.
Thank you!

105 Days to go! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: We're going with a royal room, riverview!! Everything is definitely to be finished by June, correct? I absolutely loved staying in Parterre Place last year, but I'm not totally sure of what's changing and when. Is there a "best" place to request for these new rooms? :confused3

Thanks for sharing those pictures! I can't wait to see this in a few months!!

kinda wish there were hot tubs in the quiet pool area ... would like a nice quiet soak after a long day in the parks lol.

We are supposed to be getting close to a foot of snow by thursday morning...blech! Makes me wish we were in Disney NOW!

Not POR related but has anyone eaten at the Beaches N Cream Soda Shop? My friend is thinking we should check it out when we are there....in 30 DAYS!!...and I'm wondering if it is worth it? I see they take no reservations and its small.

Answering the OT:

It's at the Beach Club Resort, out back by the pool. It's a beautiful walk from the International Gateway at EPCOT to the Bach Club. If you eat a meal, they do not take reservations and it is a TS credit. We try to go at off times to avoid a wait. Soooo yummy!

We are gonna try to go Monday after EPCOT. We are gonna hire a sitter from Kids Nite Out and go late evening and then come back for a few drinks at the lounge.

You can no longer "request" preferred buildings; they are a booking category as of last year.

Oh my goodness!! Look at that wonderful dish of heaven!! I think you have convinced me that we need to check this place out!!!!

Hopefully you will be there when someone orders "the kitchen sink."

It is 8 scoops of ice cream, all the toppings and one full can of whipped cream, served in a.... kitchen sink.

I have been there once when two people ordered it and they couldn't finish it. The people at the next table "helped them." It was too funny!

And there I was with my two scoops of ice cream with chocolate fudge sundae. I couldn't find room for dinner that night.

The only place more sinful is Ghiradelli's in DTD; another one where I just grab a sandwich at EOS or a salad at WPE and then have a sundae.
