Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread --- 2012, Part One --- NOW CLOSED

I've received an email from a resort guest who has just got back after visiting Port Orleans Riverside, and while they were at POR they took an evening stroll over to Oak Manor and reported back the following Royal Room progress update (info as of Friday 24 February):

1. Third floor rooms are near completion with all the decor apparently complete. They just need TVs, bed covers, blankets, pillows and cases.

2. Second floor rooms are further behind. They have carpet on the floor, mattresses in rooms, some furniture like bench seat, chairs, table, chandelier, main light fixture and head boards, plus apparently all bathroom fixtures and furniture.

3. First [Ground] floor rooms have just carpet done on about 65% of the building, with about 35% still getting removal of old decor.

In my opinion not going to be done on time at all - maybe third floor, but that is only how many rooms?

[Edit: the mystery spy revealed themselves later as DISer "Venomhatch" in http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=44234069#post44234069] ]

Remember that there is still a couple of weeks before this new section is due to open, and we know from previous work on some of the other buildings that progress is generally pretty quick, so I'm sure that the rooms will be ready by the opening date of 9 March - I very much doubt Disney would let the new date slip!

Apparently many of the window blinds were left open and some lights were on, and there were no 'keep out' warning signs or construction walls like the ones at French Quarter - just a standard Disney "Pardon our Appearance" sign set down in the middle of the pathway.

As it was obvious that there were no guests in residence, and no one asked them not to look, they snapped a couple of quick blurry pictures through the windows. Not sure if I should post them here though after some recent comments - does anyone have any objections before I do? (Note: NO cast members or construction workers were involved)

I just called and switched to a royal room!! :woohoo: Since they are now being offered with the spring discount, it was only $195 more. I showed my DD pictures of the room and she really, really, really wanted to stay in one so how could I say no?? :love2: I have noticed slight differences in some of the concept pictures so I can't wait to see what the real deal looks like. I was reading a blog on another website and some of the decorations sound really cool. Here are some of the special touches the rooms will have. Aladdin's magic carpet, a luggage bench that looks like Sultan the dog from Beauty and the Beast, Faucets that look like Aladdin's lamp, and my DD's favorite - fiberoptic headboards that display a fireworks scene when a button on the side is pushed. The blog was written back in May 2011, so some of the stuff may have changed, but I hope not. After reading more of the details I am even more excited for our stay at POR.

When I called to change, the CM said the Royal Rooms were not eligible for the spring offer. I told him that I was able to pull them up on the website and was looking at the price right now. At first he tried to tell me that I must have had the last one available pulled up on the website, but I knew that wasn't true because there were several room catagories. Not sure what he did, but he finally got them to come up.

OMG, I just switched to the Royal Rooms and am dying to see them!!! Please, please, please, pretty please post the pictures! :yay:

If you don't feel comfortable posting them, can I PM you my e-mail and have you send them to me??

I dont have any objections since the place wasnt boarded up or anything....just a little sign that said pardon our appearances. If Disney didnt want anyone looking or taking pics they would have barricaded & boarded up the place.

Yes, we are also booked in the new royal rooms and would love to see the pictures. Please, please post them!!! :goodvibes

Thanks!
Carla

I can't wait to see the completed room pictures. March 9th can't get here soon enough. I also can't wait until the 2013 rates are released so I can book our package for kid #2s sweet 16 in March of next year. The problem is that her birthday is on Easter Sunday next year (just realized as we were planning this year's birthday party and it's on Saturday). Does anyone have any experience staying at POR and in the parks on that day? Is is crazy busy? Should we celebrate her birthday a little earlier? Later?

That's rather my feeling too, this sort of thing hardly says "Keep Out! Construction in Progess!" like the high wooden walls over at the French Quarter courtyard do:

I just got off the phone and had the *exact* same conversation. In the end she figured it out, so we are now booked into a RR Garden View, vs. the RR Standard View that I had previously booked, for $60.00 LESS than I had paid before. :cool1:

Thanks for the update Andre!

Hmmmmm all of you that booked RGRs got me thinking. We originally booked a RGR but switched to riverview non-RGR so we could get the free dining which saved us about $500. Now I'm wondering if we could call them back to see if we can get the RGR back and still keep the free dining?

Now that I think about it nahhhhh I'm not gonna make Hubster call them again (I'm deaf so he makes the calls) He's already annoyed that I made him change alot of our ADRs lol :rotfl2:

Next year we will definitely book the RGR.

I thought that might be a good compromise. Then if anyone does ask me to pull the photos, I've got the control to do that much more easily on my own site than I have here on the DIS. If anyone should request that, I will of course do so immediately.

that's what I was thinking as well, but I can't imagine Disney would continue to let people book them if they had any doubts about them being ready in time. I really have my heart set on one of these rooms now.

I sure hope so; I am supposed to check in in 2.5 weeks!

Good luck!!! I really think that they will make the march 9th date but I think that may have to delay the other building opening.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you. personally I am happy to stay anywhere as long as it is in disney! I just can't wait to get there. POR is my favorite mod resort. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. but I can be happy anywhere as long as its worth the price we paid for the RR.

Since we have our deposit made, I am now thinking on what I'll need to pack or buy when we get there.

Two things come to mind right now

1 - do they have spray at the fulton store that you can use in the bathroom for smells:lmao: (like glade brand or such)

2 - is there an exhaust fan in the bathroom? some places we've stayed (not on disney), haven't had one.

Thanks

Tomorrow (27th) will be three months out till we leave :cool1:

What an exciting day....I paid off our WDW trip and now I get to see photos of "our ROYAL room" in progress. Thanks Andre! Thanks secret photographer! :goodvibes
