We are booked for 3-21 POR garden...I have never stayed there and I'm wondering if I should see if I could get a Royal Room. Has anyone stayed in the rooms. I'm not a fan of the rustic look but I do like the mansion I hope to get at least a new room how likely is that to happen? Should I do on line check in?

call Disney and put in a request for Magnolia Bend. We originally booked a royal room but changed it to regular Mansion room so we could qualify for the free dining. I dont know if you would be able to get a royal room but you should be able to get in one of teh mansions.

After changing my mind about a million times, I have finally settled on POR for our vacation in April. The resort looks beautiful. I really love the mansions section and put a request in my reservation for a room in that section.

Woohoo, Congrats!! We really enjoy POR and cannot wait to see the new RGR. It is such a great resort to just walk around at! Have a great trip.

I am looking forward to it. POR was my first choice, but CSR was a little cheaper with the spring room only offer so I booked it, but my heart really wasn't in it. I finally realized that I would regret it if I didn't go with my first choice. Now I am 100% sure that POR is the place for us! Only 70 days till we arrive!

14 days until we leave for Disney. So excited and cannot wait to surprise my two DS's. I wish all those who will be traveling soon a safe and fun trip.:wizard:

20 years ago today, the first section of the new Dixie Landings resort (the Alligator Bayou lodges) opened to the public. That hotel is now better known to us as Port Orleans Riverside of course.

If you're there today, don't forget to pop along to the lobby early and pick your free birthday cake while it lasts.

I forgot to update this thread with a few 20th Anniversary photos from 2nd Feb. Here's the decorated lobby and anniversary cake, and the presentation for the opening day cast members who were all given a special glass ornament featuring a steamboat design to celebrate their 20 years working at the resort.

Amazing Photos... Its like you have someone taking these and updating you lol. I am ready now... Down to the home stretch last week before the trip!!!

Has anyone done the carriage ride around the resort? If so, what were your thoughts? Do you think it was worth the price? I'm thinking of doing it one evening while we are there.

We did it in 2009 and loved it. Cash only. But it was very romantic and pretty sites to see they even have blankets to make it cozy warm!

I'm confused...why did you have to downgrade from a royal room in order to use a free dining promo?

We alos enjoy CSR, but POR just has more family activities. We will be doing the carriage ride again this trip so that our youngest DD can enjoy it:) The first time we went, my DW was pregnant so I got a bottle of sparkling cider and some plastic champagne glasses to celebrate. Our oldest DD, then 4 had a great time and thought she was a real princess:love:
FYI; DW and I are Michiganders, born and raised in Detroit, left in '84' and we occasionally go back to visit family.

When we originally booked the room back in Nov nobody said we qualify for free dining. I found out about it here on disboards. When we call about it she said our room didnt qualify for it. She did try to find a way to keep the royal room and get the free dining but it was a no go. She asked us if we wanted to downgrade to a regular room in magnolia bend. We were fine with that as long as we got queen beds. Then she upgraded us to the deluxe dining for free. We saved a considerable amount of money. To us that was more important than the royal room.
