We will be staying in the royal rooms in 2 weeks. Are there any rooms that are preferred in those buildings?

There are no preferred rooms in the Royal Guest Room Buildings

Preferred rooms are separate buildings in the Alligator Bayou area.

We are arriving at POR on 4/5 and staying through 4/12. Do you think it is too early to request a room at the Oak Manor? That is where my wife and I stayed at during our honeymoon.

Do you have a royal room reserved? If you do you may still have to wait regardless until 5 days out to send a fax in. But you can always call your TA or reservation line and add you would like to be in the Oak Manor building and any other requests you want noted to your reservation.

If you look at the map at http://portorleans.org/room-requests.php, there are some rooms in Oak Manor that are very close to the foot bridge that leads right to the main building.

Well sadly if you do not have a royal room you will not be in Oak Manor or Parterre Buildings.

Ok, that sucks. So we have the possibility of getting a room at any building just with a garden view right? I just don't want to be put in a room that is far away from the main lobby, food courts, etc.

All buildings at POR can have a garden view in them so it is pretty random where you could get located.

Hmm.. that makes sense. When we stayed at the Oak Manor back in 02, our room was technically a river view room, but we really did not see the river.

We have a RGR garden view reserved. I called in a request for Oak Manor as close to the footbridge as possible. I'm hoping for a short walk across the bridge to the bus stop and food court.

Then I noticed that the movies are shown at Oak Manor. A couple people in our party need an early bedtime. Will that be very loud if we are near that? I'm not sure exactly where at Oak Manor they show the movies.

Had a garden, shrubbery view last year. We just had a standard room. We were in Oak manor. Loved the resort so much we are staying again for 2 nights.

I originally had a Standard Room booked through Disney, but then a Cheap Tickets sale allowed me to book a Royal Room Garden View at the same price.

Am I still able to make requests (top floor, 2 window room) even though I booked the room through a 3rd party?

Well there wouldn't be any need to send a request until 5 days out so I believe that by then the third party would pass your info in to Disney by then. So yes you should be fine.

Sent a room request fax yesterday and haven't heard back. I know they don't always send and email and I bet its busy being Presidents Day weekend. Just so excited about our trip I was hoping to hear something. Guess I'll find our when we arrive at POR Friday!
