WOULD LIKE TO NO WHICH ONE IS BEST FRENCH QUARTER OR RIVERSIDE. I HAVE THREE SONS AGE 2,3,14 MYSELF AND WIFE. STAY AT CBR LAST YEAR AND THINKING ABOUT TRYING ANOTHER RESORT ,NOT THAT CBR WAS NOT GREAT IT WAS, HAD A GOOD TIME JUST WANT TO SEE WHAT ELSE IS OUT THEIR THANKS:earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsboy:

French Quarter is closed for renovations until further notice. So it depends on when your trip is but right now they are not taking reservations for french quarter. I am staying at Riverside from 1/23 to 1/27 with my sis, and two nephews who are 5 & 7. I have read great things about riverside. The pool looks really cool and got really cool reviews in the unofficial guide. The unofficial guide was so helpful in planning my trip. I read it all the time. It has great reviews of each resort.

I stayed at the PO Riverside in September and really liked it. I stayed in one of the Mansions, but there are rooms in the Aligator Bayou section that have a trundle bed which is good for a family of 5.
You do not say when your are planning to go for your next trip.
The PO FQ is currently closed for rehab and there has not been an offical re-opening date. Most rumors seemed to indicate that it may be opened either late spring or early summer, but that is just rumors.

Just a little FYI....I tried to check rates for FQ for June and the CM told me that the resort was in the middle of renovations and would not be open by then(6/19-6/27). Also, I have a friend who was just at Riverside last week and he said that when he passed by FQ one day they were unloading trucks full of new hotel room furniture.

Thanks for reading the Unofficial Guide, dlk999!

Your friend is correct, DisneyFanatik. I've heard from official sources that new furniture, room decor and bathroom upgrades are planned for POFQ.

I've stayed at POR a couple of times in the past year, both times in the Magnolia Bend building. The resort setting is nice, the pool is good, the food court is decent, and the transportation is okay. If you can get a room discount from Mousesavers, even better.

The only complaint I'd have is that it's sometimes difficult to find a specific room in the buildings. I ended up following the outside of the building all the way around Magnolia Bend. That seemed to double my walk. I eventually found a shortcut, but man, that first walk was a hike with the luggage. I suggest asking the C/M when you check in which side of the building your room is on.

We have stayed at both and prefer Riverside. Not that FQ isn't nice, we just liked the layout of Riverside better. But, if FQ reopens before your stay I'd consider it. Nothing like a brand new room. The French Quarter themed atmosphere is pretty and peaceful and MUCH nicer than the real thing!

I am hoping to take my kids for their first trip to DW in October 04. They really want to stay at the POFQ because of the serpent pool. Does anyone know if after the remodel they will let 5 per room. I called them about two years ago and they said no way to letting more than 4 per room. I can't afford two rooms and if we can't stay there then I will have to find a reasonable hotel off site. Does anyone know of a very nearby offsite hotel that is clean and reasonable. My kids ages are 13, 9, 9. Is DW very busy in the first week of October? I have only been once to DW and that was 20 years ago and I just don't remember much about the area. We are on a tight budget but I really hope to manage the trip this year. I have not plan on making any reservations until about July...is that too late. I have noticed people on here with reservations for a year from now. As you see I am need of all the info I can get. Thanks for any info.

The Alligator Bayou rooms at PO-Riverside sleep 4, plus they allow a trundle in those rooms for a fifth person. But they are only big enough for a child under 10. Is one of the 9-year olds a shorty? ;)

I understand that Port Orleans guests are welcome to use both pools at the resort.

Also, you might want to check out mousesavers.com. She has a ton of ideas to save money on your trip.
