My husband and I are trying to plan a trip the first week of May (2003) and are having trouble finding any discount codes for that time frame. We are looking to book Port Orleans but would be content with any Moderate Resort for that week. We were also going to purchase an AP but if we buy it now, does that mean it expires a year from now or a year from the first day we make use of it. Are there any AP room discounts in the month of May? Does anyone have any ideas on these subjects? Thanks so much for any suggestions you may have.

You can reserve a room with an AP discount even though you don't have one yet. You will have to show the AP when you check in. You can purchase an AP at your local Disney Store. They will give you a voucher that you'd take to WDW. It is then you actually get your AP. The clock on the AP starts when you actually get the AP, not when you get the voucher.

So my guess is when you get to WDW, you first get the AP and then you go check in. I don't think you can check in and get the AP rate with just the voucher. Also, only one person in your family/group needs to get an AP for the room discount. For more info on this take a look at http://www.mousesavers.com/annualpass.html .

I don't think the May room discounts for AP holders are out yet.

Last May we stayed at Riverside. I think the AP rates came out at the very end of January. (Last day maybe?)
I was not able to get an AP rate, but at that time a discount rate was available that anyone could use. (This could happen again.)
We paid $104.34 per night at Riverside for the last week in May.
Best to book now and see about getting a discount rate later. Although a discount rate is never a guarantee, but I have always been able to get one of some type.
So far, I have not had to show any proof for any discount rates at check-in. (DC or AP) But this isn't to say it you won't have to show proof.
You can buy your AP anytime. It is good starting the day you validate it at WDW.
We recently renewed our AP's, and saved a little money since it was a renewal. The AP rate has saved us quite a bit for our two stays at the AS's.

My daughter and I always go to WDW the first week in May
also. The discount codes for that time come out the end of
Jan. or the first part of Feb. Reserve a room now, then when
the codes come out you can re-book at the discount rate, and
cancel your other reservation.
