We are going to spend most of our holiday in a villa as we have two small children, and want the kitchen/seperate rooms etc. But were thinking of spending the beginning of our holiday on site, (primarily so that we can get a bus straight to Magic Kingdom rather than the hassle of the transportation and ticket centre, then bus or boat fiasco!!).

We had thought of the AKL originally, but will now save that until all the contraction work has finished.

My question now is - how do you rate the POFQ?? It looks beautiful on the official sites and I have stayed at CBR before and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We did think of the GF so that we are on the monorail, but its so expensive and I'm concerned that we will keep popping back to the hotel rather than make the most of our limited time at MK - what do you think??? (sorry for rambling on!!!)

we stayed at POFQ for a fortnight and loved it :cool1:

Great pool, nice rooms, we loved getting the water launch to and from downtown disney very relaxing. Overall a great resort. :thumbsup2

We stayed there for a couple of weeks a few years back. It was very beautiful and quiet too. The nicest of the Moderate resorts.

POFQ is a beautiful resort, we stayed here in 2004 and loved it! DH and I rated it better than AKL . The location is fab, the theming is lovely and the resort is quite small too.

If you could though I would recommend the GF, this is my favourite resort. POFQ is my next favourite. :)

when we had a look around the GF at Christmas time it looked too posh, would love to stay at WL though

I lot of people have suggested that the Gf is too posh and can be put off by this. We are not posh at all and love staying here;) To be honest the only time we would "dress up" would be for dinner. otherwise it's just the usual shorts and t shirts for us and we have never felt out of place!:)

must admit DH has always wanted to stay there, perhaps we should consider it for next time. Also DH has promised DD that when she gets married it can be in the wedding pavilion and she hasn't forgotten:laughing:

I absolutely agree. We stayed there on the Concierge floor in 2004 and we found them very welcoming and not at all "stuffy". Of all the resorts, and we have stayed at 7, it is our favourite....and with a lovely pool too.

I love the French Quarter, it is my favorite moderate. I have about 100 photos online of the POF/POR walk-about, but POF is my favorite for the French theming. :)

:rotfl: Better get saving now, it costs a small fortune to get married there but well worth it:)

Thanks for all your comments, we do love the GF (and its not at all snobby!!).

We were thinking we should stay at GF because its our 10th wedding anniversary (we too got married at the Wedding Pavillion and stayed at GF!!), but part of me is worried I'd find it too upsetting - my Dad arranged my wedding and he sadly passed away in 2001 and it will be my first visit to MK since he died. Thats one reason we thought of POFQ.

My other concern, as I mentioned before, is that we will keep popping back to the hotel with our two little ones, rather than making the most of the park. (We stayed in the Disneyland hotel in Paris in January, and our son kept asking to go back to play in the hotel - I think it was because he knew it was so close - we've never had any probs with this when we were staying further out).

What do you think??

Plus is POFQ better for little ones than POR?? As it looks like there are more pools at POR but then I would be concerned about the bus service there?? Any thoughts???

We stayed at POR a few years ago and we loved it!
Stayed in Alligator Bayou, in the first building, it was nearest the main building, the bus stop was just a hop skip and a jump away and the pools were great? We also went over to POFQ for a visit and the pool was lovely as well but my Dd preferred our own at POR.
Theres also a boat to take you to DTD and it's just the other side of the main building.

I got the tip about which building to stay in from the US Trip planning boards, :thumbsup2

Hope this helps:goodvibes

Thanks for that - did you find the bus overcrowded?? We're going next May and will have a 4yr old and a 9mth old (plus stroller!) - don't want it to be a nightmare!!!

Hi,

Sorry i've never been in May, We usually go Nov Dec, have been in April though and didn't find it too buisy. There are usually plenty of busses and if the first ones too full then another will be along shortly:)
You can request a certain room/building direct with WDW it's not guaranteed but they'l do their best to accomodate you;) That's what we did and got it no probs.

Good Luck:)

May is moderate. Not busy, not slow, but medium sized crowds (usually). This is a big year for Disney, so it could get busier next year or slower due to gas prices. But it won't be like Christmas or Easter.

Amy, I have never stayed at POR just been through it on a bus. IMO POFQ would be better with kids as its smalloer than POR.

Thanks for that Jockey - I think I will stay at POFQ, I like the idea of a quieter small resort after all the hussle and bussle of the parks - plus it sounds as though the buses are easier from there too which is a huge plus for us!!

thanks again!!

It's a great choice! Just make sure your confirmation from Disney actually says the French Quarter (like 4 people this week from the hotel board had received TA conformations that said FQ but ended up with documents to POR).
