I'm all booked in a standard room in November. (14th-24th) However, I'm calling first thing Monday morning to add free dining.

My question for you is does the preferred room make a huge difference at POR? Or is it small enough that it doesn't matter?

We booked Preferred last trip and ended up in AB Building 14 which is closest to the food court and main bus stop ... IMO It was well worth it ... some of the outer buildings are a bit of a hike.

We booked a preferred room last Aug. and loved the convenience of being so close to the main building. We were in building 14 which was less than a minute walk to the food court and 2 minutes to the main pool. While there we walked to the farthest building in the AB section and timed how long it took us to walk to the main building. We wanted to get a feel for it because we planned on booking a bounce back in a standard room. It was an extra 5-6 minute walk. We walk fairly fast so for some it might take an extra minute or two. Even though it wasn't a bad walk and it is really beautiful grounds, we decided to book the preferred room again instead of the standard. The convenience of being able to quickly fill your mug every morning or get off the bus at the end of the day and have the main building and your room within a minutes walk was to good to give up in our opinion.

POR is HUGE!
I stayed there before it had room categories in building 25 which is kind of in the middle of the Alligator Bayou area. It was a decent walk to the main building. We often book standard at values and don't have a problem with the walk but would spring for preferred at POR.

That said, there are multiple quiet pools and bus stops so unless you think you'll be using the refillable mug station or the food court a lot, then you probably don't need to change.

I have only stayed at POR once - in Parterre Place. It seemed a lot farther away after walking all day at the parks!

I think the closer location is worth the extra cost. Next trip to POR, I want to try the Alligator Bayou preferred rooms, too.

I have to disagree that the rooms are all a short walk from the main buildings. Some of the rooms look like they are close, but due to how the paths wind and twist can take a bit to get to the front of the resort. During my last stay at POR we were in building 34, and with a 9 year old in tow it took 15 minutes to get to the food court.

Not a long walk, but long enough that we barely used our resort mugs, or just popped over to shop or look around.
