Is there any advantage to getting a verandah cabin on a particular side? We might do a 5 night Magic to the Bahamas.

Thanks!

Starboard side will give you a better view of Castaway Cay. For the other ports, it will depend on which way the front of the ship is facing to know what you will have a view of. Nassau, I think you would have a view of another cruise ship or Paradise Island where Atlantis is (I'm not sure if this is true). Key West will just depend where you dock I assume. Since you said you are thinking of doing a bahamas cruise, those are the ports I assumed you are going to. I'm doing the 5 night Magic cruise on December 18th, and that is where we are going.

The only thing I can think of that matters which side is if you stop at CC. Starboard side has the beautiful view of CC. We just picked starboard side now even though we wont be going to CC next time :-(

We always seem to end up on the port side and rather enjoy it. You don't get the view of the island but you do get to people watch LOL

We chose starboard for the view of CC. My parents also enjoyed being on the starboard side on our last cruise as they could watch the fireworks from their verandah.

I'm curious as to how they were able to do this? Obviously they probably still could, but Disney advises you to not stand on your verandah due to safety reasons.

We always choose port side on every ship we take -- 8 times out of 10 we are facing the port and it is lovely. We have been on starboard side once, and that does have a lovely view of CC. But if we are not sailing to CC, we prefer port.

8 out of 10 times, you were port side.
1 time out of 10, you were starboard.

Does that mean that one time you were strapped to the bow of the ship?
:)

HA HA -- No,poor choice of wording I guess. I meant on average, 8 out of 10 times when we've had a port side room, we were indeed facing the port. Two other times the ship pulled in so that we were not on port side.

I was going with you have an unassigned GTY for the "unaccounted for" cruise. :rotfl2:

We prefer and book Starboard verandahs. There was one sailing we had port side and that was okay but we have managed to get awesome views from Starboard.
Castaway Cay of course a great view
Nassau had a view of the gorgeous houses along the water and a great view of Atlantis/Paradise Island.
Jamaica was a view of the hills and houses.
St. Maarten had a view of the smaller boats and hills
Puerto Rico was nothing to write home about but it was not horrible either.
Cozumel, view of the water, boats and the city (including Starbucks and Hooters lol
Costa Maya , water view
Caymans...water on both sides and we of course tendered in.
St. Thomas, water and boats and a bit of the hills
Tortolas, hills, water etc.

I think the one time we were port was a Bahamas trip and we saw another cruise line on the other side of us.

Actually We have always chosen deck 6 for some reason and have both times watched the fireworks from our balcony. We have never received a letter stating we could not sit out there. I believe from reading other threads that its the higher up decks that are given that letter on the starboard side.

There are only certain rooms this applies too. Generally aft starboard rooms and Cat 4e extended balconies are part of this request by Disney. I have watched fireworks successfully from a 5e, room 8682, the corner room. I have also viewed from 9630, which is a 4a near the aft elevator area. None of those rooms had a note requesting not to view from the room.

I have always had an inside stateroom so am not sure about letters but my parents are very much rule followers so if such a letter had been left I'm sure they would have stayed indoors. I believe as others have said that only some staterooms based on where they are located on the ship, receive such a letter. Good for people to take into consideration though.

Gotcha. The only time I have had a starboard verandah room, we received a letter. I just assumed that every stateroom got one. Sorry for the confusion.
