Port or Starboard Deck 5 Verandah to Avoid Smoke on the Classics?

We are port forward 7022 on the Wonder / Alaska, summer 2018. Do you think the smokes could be a problem there? It's my DH's first Disney cruise and I would hate this to be an issue when we use our verandah at Tracy Arm. Should I switch to starboard?
You are down a deck and a bit further back from where you were, so I think you are OK. If there is a breeze on your glacier day, even better. If it does pose a problem, report it to guest services ASAP. We can only hope that enough people report this problem so that DCL moves all smoking areas to the rear of the ship or into one of their enclosed lifeboats.

Thank you GPaLarry and Shanti. I guess this will be a time when I'll be glad my DH doesn't have as sharp of sense of smell as me :)

Ask yourself how often will you be on your verandah between 6PM and 6AM? I doubt I'd be on a verandah much during those hours...I'd either be at dinner, a show, or sleeping. But, if you want to change to port side...the Alaska cruise often has land on both sides as you're mostly sailing the inside passage...and it's a round trip cruise, so you should see plenty of land no matter what side of the ship you're on.

In Alaska the sun doesn't set until after 10 p.m. so yes you can be on your verandah quite late getting a view. That said we were on forward deck 6 starboard when we went and I never noticed any smoke smell.

Are the portholes in the Oceanview rooms pretty well sealed so you wouldn't smell the smoke from the smoking areas (for the rooms near the area of course) or do you notice it as well?

The portholes are completely sealed, no smell from the outside.

We were on the wonder, Room 8002 for Alaska in 2016. Worst room ever. The smoke and ashes were constantly all over our veranda!!!

I don't understand why they don't just put it near the stern somewhere (deck 10?) like Navy ships do. Then you only smell it if you go back there.

Well aft on deck 4 is an inside, enclosed area that has equipment so they probably don't want people congregating there. I suppose they could make the smoking area before the enclosed part of Deck 4 aft.

Deck 9 aft is the outdoor eating area of Cabana's so that won't work.

Deck 10 aft is outside Palo and I am sure they don't want groups of smokers hanging out there either.

Did you stay in 7022? Was it smoky? We're booked in 7028 and 7030 for summer 2022
