Port Everglades and more

The Brightline trains are alive and well down here in South Florida. We live between Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach and we see the trains going by all the time. They are also building a station and parking garage here in Boca Raton that is coming along nicely.

"Brightline is actively constructing a new rail line to connect our stops in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach to Orlando. Our team is hard at work to continue our exciting expansion plans. Service connecting South Florida to Central Florida is expected to open in 2023.

We are also pleased to announce another three additional stops, including stations in Aventura, Boca Raton and PortMiami."

Don't remember if PC has Global Entry/NEXUS but you can use that and the mobile passport app in Port Everglades.
I'm pretty sure PC does not have Global Entry. I was looking into that recently and seem to recall PE was the only cruise terminal that offered it right now.

Once the high speed Brightline train route is complete, it will be easy to get to WDW from Fort Lauderdale. Right now the Brightline trains are operating from Miami to Fort Lauderdale to West Palm Beach. I think the route to Orlando will be completed in 2023.
You'll be able to get to MCO and to a station near WDW--but Disney has backed out of the plan for a station on Disney property.

I find that most people (Ourselves included) prefer FTL over MIA. The biggest benefit for you will be that you can easily fly out of either airport.
Given the choice between FTL (which is in Washington) and MIA, I'll take MIA every time. :)

And while FLL can get crowded, I do like it better than MIA.

As a Broward County resident I was super pumped about Port Everglades, but was pretty disappointed to see the first slate of cruises with their only being 4 and 5 night cruises. Was hoping they would be offering 3 nighters like the Dream used to do, or 7 nighters like the Fantasy. 3 nights are good for a long weekend, and 7 nights are good for a vacation. Maybe that's jsut me though.

FTL is the Florida abbreviation.
Try telling that to anyone that has worked in the airport industry.

Look, I know I'm being picky about this, and apologies for that. But if you try to book a flight to FTL you're going to end up in some small airport in Washington. So if we're talking about going to airports, I strongly urge you to use the proper airport codes - which in the case of Fort Lauderdale, it's FLL.

It would be like if I used TOR when telling people how to fly into Toronto. TOR is some small airport in Wyoming. YYZ or YTZ is where you want to go to get here.

Not everyone works at the airport.

Give it time. After all, there are only 5 ships in the fleet ATM.

A fair comment. Not everyone works at the airport or for an airline.

But is it a bad thing to know and use the airport code when you're talking about airports? No, especially when you look at various forums and see people casually using IATA codes to describe their voyages. How many of us can rattle off the code for Orlando International Airport?

Again, I know I'm being picky about this. But if you're using abbreviations and we're talking airports, I honestly think it's better to stick to the codes and not try to use something that may lead one astray.

Two words.

Double. Dip.

I get what you're saying, but for me, I think would rather a singular long cruise instead of dealing with a turnaround day. Granted, I've never done a double dip on any cruise line, so I am not speaking from any practical experience.

I think you're thinking back-to-back, not double-dip.

Double-dip is a single cruise with two stops at Castaway Cay.

Thanks. I hate it when I get the terms wrong (as you can probably tell).

I'm not sure I love the private islands so much that I'd want two days there. With that said, I would prefer that to 1 day at CC and 1 day in Nassau. No offense to Nassau, but I've been there enough times to know it's not really for me outside of eating food.

This was my first thought too! The best thing about a double castaway sailing is that the double amount of time on the island really allows you to enjoy yourself instead of feeling rushed/like you have to get everything done in a day. The second day really helps you to relax.

ALSO: If you don't like the Island, most people do! So you can stay on the ship and do so much more than normal because everyone else is at the beach.

When we did our double dip 4 night in 2019, it totally changed my mind.

Edit: I amended my comment above as my words were unkind. I apologize for that. I understand your appreciation for correct abbreviations. Everything is... different in Florida. Our news stations regularly refer to Orlando International Airport as "OIA" instead of MCO.

Have definitely stayed onboard the ship before in Nassau. To be honest, I'm not sure if I actually like doing that or not. On one hand, it's a pretty chill day onboard. On the other hand, a part of the cruise life is going to the different ports.

At the end of the day, I suppose that I should just choose Caribbean cruises that avoid Nassau. Or just choose other destinations. :)

No problem. I will edit my comment as well.

My guess is that Orlando has been trying to make OIA happen for a while. If I'm reading correctly, MCO stands for the Air Force base that previously occupied the area?
