Hi, for the transfers from Port Canaveral to WDW, do you bring your luggage off of the ship and load them onto the bus to WDW?? Or do they do it for you??

Yes. You pick them up and they are loaded onto the bus, then unloaded at your resort.

You may haul the luggage off yourself or put it outside your door (usually between 8:30 and 10:30 pm) the night before debarkation. If you do the latter, you collect it in the terminal and there are porters who can assist you collecting and taking the bags to the bus. The porters work for tips. In any case as Dug720 said, the luggage travels with your bus to WDW.

Yes, the process is not quite the same as when you take DCL buses TO the port where they collect your luggage and transport it for you via truck to the port.

When you take DCL buses FROM the port to the WDW resort you must gather it from the terminal (or haul it off the ship yourself) and bring it to the bus. When you arrive at your WDW resort you can leave your luggage with bell services if your room is not ready and you want to head out somewhere.

Too bad they don't offer the luggage service, where you put them out in the hall the night before, and they show up in your WDW resort room sometime the next day.

Not sure why they don't. I get it would be some costs to them, but it seems it would also improve efficiency in getting people out of the terminal, which would also be beneficial. I don't think customs is an issue, aren't the bags checked before you pick them up in the terminal?

They don't offer the luggage service to take bags directly from your cruise ship room to your WDW room because you are required to have your bags with you while going through customs. You pick the bags up and then go through the border control. They may do things like a drug screen before you pick them up, but you still have to have the bags with you when talking to the customs official.

I've done the same thing for international flights. When coming back to my first US airport, I have to pick up my luggage, go through customs, and then drop the luggage back off to be checked through to my final US airport. So this is definitely out of Disney's control.

So how do they get away with Onboard Airline Check-In? Those bags get tagged, taken off the ship, and you see them again at your destination airport.

I'm sure there's a reason they don't do bag to resort, but I don't think customs is why or they couldn't do OAC.

I stand corrected! (I've always kept my bags and checked in at the airport myself for baggage fee reasons.) I'm surprised that they can do that.

They do with participating airlines for domestic flights. And they will add the baggage fee to your onboard account.

Maybe it's port specific, but for the cruises we've been on (out of Baltimore, Tampa, Jacksonville, and Charleston), we went through customs before picking up our bags. Each time, we went through customs (with our carry-off items), and then picked up our bags that we had put out in the hall the night before. Once we collected our bags, off we went without anyone checking anything.

We have done OAC service several times out of Port Canaveral and it is great not having to worry about the luggage. As mentioned it is just with participating airlines and only domestic flights and you flight has to leave after a certain time.

If you have an airline credit card or other card that gives you free bags you can go down to guest services onboard before the last day and show them your card. They will note it on your reservation and you should not be charged the baggage fees. Of course mistakes happen but we have been lucky on all our cruises that we were not charged baggage fees when using OAC. I do always go down to GS and show them my airline credit card that gives me free bags.

We've done OAC many times at PC and a couple times in Miami. Pretty certain we used it in Galveston, too. It is indeed very convenient. I advise at checkin when we have no bag fees but go to guest services sometime during the cruise to make certain the fees won't be charged because one time the fees were mistakenly added. Luckily I caught that before debarkation morning.

It would be nice if the bags could be delivered to WDW resorts but my guess is that it has to do with who would pay for that service. When arriving at MCO for a WDW stay, luggage delivery is covered by WDW as part of ME service.
