Hi, we're doing a week at WDW and then cruising. This will be our 1st time and I'm not sure if we can rent a car for the week and then drop it off at a rental place near the port or if we'll have to pay for the car the days were cruising and also pay to park it at the port. Is there a rental car place at the port and if so who are they and would you recommend them? We'll also be doing WDW for 2 days after the cruise before we fly home, so i'll need to rebook a rental for those 2 days. We are staying offsite and need a rental car so Disney transportation is not an option for us. TIA!!!!!

I just looked into this exact thing yesterday.

I found 4 car rental agencies in the Port Canaveral area. Budget, Avis, National, and one that I can't remember.

Budget and Avis have free shuttles to the pier from their offices in the area. National does not, but I think they have a deal worked out with a taxi company.

All three of these companies are on site at the Orlando airport as well, so it is easy to pick up your car at the airport. I used National last year and was pleased with it.

I think we are going with a transportation company to get from Disney to Port Canaveral. Less stress that way as they will drop us off right where we need to be.

Hope this helps!

We did this in September. We used Thrifty. It worked great. I was able to drop DH and DS and all of the luggage at the port then return the rental car while they waited in line. The office was easy to find and it only took minutes to check in the car and hop on the waiting shuttle. By the time I made it back to the terminal DH & DS were getting close to the front of the line.

When we returned we only had to wait about 15 minutes for the Thrifty shuttle. Quick trip and we were in and out in another 15 minutes or so.

We had no problems picking up and returning at MCO either.

I had a lot of anxiety about it before we left, but it really was very easy.

Is Thrifty really close to port? My dh will be the driver and he's horrible with directions, that's why I'm the navigator-LOL! Also we'll be flying via Sanford Airport. Anyone used Thrifty from Sanford...or any of the other car rental places that are availble at Sanford and Port Canaveral? Also, if we do rent, return car and rerrent will there be enough room in the closet of our ship cabin to store all our stuff? 4 suitcases, 4 carry-ons, 1 carseat and 1 booster seat and a stroller?
