We're going to drive to FL in Oct. & start our trip with KSC & want to stay at a decent - yet not expensive - hotel/motel the night before. I like the Marriott Courtyards & the Radissons. What else is there around that area & what do people suggest? Also, what else is there to do in the port area if we arrive early enough to eat & sight see. Thanks everyone.:D

I suggest a meal at Dixie Crossroads in Titusville, if you like shrimp, order the Broiled Rock Shrimp, they taste like mini lobster tails. If you look in my signature below, you will see a link that will take you to their website.

The photo below is me celebrating my 45th Birthday at Dixie Crossroads three years ago. My DW asked where I wanted to celebrate my birthday dinner, so we planned a trip to Florida, just so I could have my birthday dinner there. After our cruise in August, we will be driving up to Dixie Crossroads for lunch, before heading to MCO for our 6pm flight home.

If possible I recommend getting there before 4pm, it is usually very busy at the dinner hour(one to two hour wait at times), that's why we go there for lunch. Last March, we arrived at 11:00am just as they were opening because we were headed home from vacation. Even though we cut our vacation short by two days, because we were all sick, we still managed to stop at Dixie Crossroads for lunch. "I gotta have my Rock Shrimp!!!"

Hi dclwdwlover.

what else is there to do in the port area if we arrive early enough to eat & sight see.

My son and I went to The lone Cabbage Fish Camp which is located nearby. They offer "authentic" (whatever that really is) airboat rides. Very enjoyable and I found the guide we had to be both knowledgable and humorous. The Lone Cabbage also has a restaurant which offers local specialties such as gator burgers and fresh turtle soup, but you can also go more mainstream with a cheeseburger and fries. The Camp has a dock you can fish from as well. It is a pleasant diversion at a friendly oasis...

I am on the Disney Magic right now. Last Friday night we stayed at the Hampton Inn - Cocoa Beach. We did not care for it at all. Got the cruise package where you leave your car there and take a shuttle to the port so you don't have to pay the daily fee at the port ($10.00/day). But we were so disappointed with the Hampton, we decided to take the car with us and pay the $70. The shuttle was going to pick us up at 12:15PM! We were boarding the ship by then.

Also all of the rooms were outside access, which I hate. I didn't realize this when I booked. And the rooms were smaller than our ship stateroom!

We ate at Ruby Tuesday's in the Merritt Square Mall. If you have kids (especially teens), Ron Jon's Surf Shop is a must! We had to stop our kids from spending too much before we even got to the ship.

Enjoy!

We stayed at the Radisson and it was lovely if a bit of a culture shock for me at first. We had just spent 9 nights at the Yacht Club where you're not allowed within 3ft of the pool with a drink or food. At the Radisson I got to the pool to find people smoking on the edge of the pool, some in the pool and drinking in the pool and I have to say there were a couple that were very drunk too. LOL I just thought to myself "I'm not in Kansas anymore Toto".

The room was wonderul we had booked one of the King Whirlpool rooms for just over $100 and it was wonderful with a great view of the Magic docked and as it sailed away.

We also had the Seafood buffet at the hotel which was pretty good but I think a tad expensive but we didn't have a car so didn't bother going elsewhere.

Also the shuttle service runs every 20 mins or so to and from the port.

I'd stay there again :)

check out Dave's link for space coast business info. He has a pretty nice well laid out map of the area, and it shows the hotels close to port, and i believe most have been linked, so all you have to do is click on the link to find out more info about each hotel.
