My family will be first timers in a couple months so basic things like this are unknown to us at this point. What sort of gangway do you walk to enter the ship (at Port Canaveral)? Is it open, enclosed, glass? Is it high up (one in our group is terrified of heights)?

It may sound silly, but I did a Royal Caribbean cruise many many years ago and I remember the entry being out in the open and pretty high.

It is enclosed glass :) Not sure of the height, I never really paid that close attention to that was just wanting to get on the ship and start my vacation!!

Yes, it's enclosed glass, but the floor is solid, so you can't look straight down. You enter on Deck 3, so you'll be 3-4 stories up. Not crazy high, but not ground level either. It's also pretty short.

Here's a picture of the terminal. You can see the gangway on the right. You walk through the frosted glass area first to the picture taking station and then to the open glass. I think it looks and feels like an airport terminal. The walkway is probably 5 people wide, so it would be reasonable to stay to the center and away from the windows. This photo was taken from Deck 12.

I did not find it high at all. I don't think your family member will have an issue. It's not very long either. Believe me it would feel it in a wheelchair! I hate the lift on the bus more....

I don't even remember seeing out the glass walls, we were going so quick to get on....it doesn't seem like going high up at all (my DW doesn't like that stuff and she never mentioned it either....and I'm not about to point it out)

This photo makes me really excited for my next cruise, which isn't until next year!

Thanks. That night picture makes it look not very high at all. Is that glass part where the entry lines back up to usually?

There is only a minimal wait once you get on the gangway. In the above picture, you likely won't even be backed up past the white accordion looking thing closest to the ship. In the night photo, the back up occurs in the frosted area, after you have scanned your card and everyone is stuck waiting for the photo, which you can skip!

It's more akin to boarding a plane, except the door is a lot wider and crew announce your arrival. :welcome:
