I called this morning to add free dining to my Sept PORS ressie. I then asked the CM to add a room request for building 14. She said she couldn't do that, because I had a standard room booked and all the Alligator Bayou buildings that were fairly close to the main building (like building 14) are preferred rooms and that since I had booked a standard room our room would definitely be one of the ones in the back.

I know that at the values and at CBR a preferred room will get you closer to the main building. However, I thought that at the other moderates the choices were standard, water view, or king room and that they were scattered throughout the resorts?:confused3

I was thinking the same way as you are. I think she might have been wrong.

I'm just back from POR - and it's not the same as the values. A preferred room to them is "water"....and it could just be a fountain in front of your building.

That's what I thought. I know AB buildings 14, 18, and 27 have water view rooms, but do they have rooms that are considered standard too? My mom will have an ECV, but doesn't really want to use it all the time, so we wanted a room close to the main building, so she could walk over there.

I have requested building 14 or 18 in AB for our May trip. The CM at CRO added the request with no problems and never mentioned having to pay for a preferred room.

just returned from POR AB section. made no request ahead of time but at check in (7am) I did request bldg 14 1st or first floor in one of other close BLDGs. My reason was I have 2 strollers and did not want 2nd floor and wanted to be close to food court.

They said no at first and assigned me to something in the back. I patiently explained again I would be purchasing 5 refillable mugs and had 4 children and 2 children (one who tires easily due to some premature birth hang on issues, no more defined than that and yes, it is true) in strollers.

She went into the back and came back with Building 14 but 2nd floor only thing available. I thought about being more insistant but at that point it was heading towards 7:30 and I wanted to get to AK for EMH morning. so I let it go.

so building was great, so glad I kept that building and DH and I carried first strollers up and then tired kiddos but it was okay. Next time I might insist on first floor but for this trip (short 4 nights) it wasn't worth it.

If you have a ligitimate need for closeness they really do try to accomadate. Turns out my DD2 was sick most of our stay and I was so thankful to be close to everything including laundry room! That FL heat drains you. especially my little one.

I was told por request are rarely granted for building 14,15,18 and 27

uh OH! :scared1: Looks like I'm in trouble then!I booked 3 std. view rooms for 5/3-5/6 & requested 14 or 15! Ok, what's my first choice for availability at POR now that I can't get 14, 15, 18 or 27? What do you think we SHOULD be requesting?

Am I the only one that wants the Magnolia section? I believe the actually name of the the mansion is Magnolia Terrace. Building 90 or 95? I only booked standard, though!

Anyone know if I'll have any luck?

thanks

Well, I have requested Alligator Bayou, and been placed in the Mansions.:headache: I think they tend to leave most of the Bayou rooms for families of 5, as those rooms are the ones with the trundle beds. So I think you have a good chance of your request being met.

The word "rarely" is a relative term. If there are many requests for those buildings, then only a small percentage could possibly be honored ... there are only so many rooms to go around.

Last time we stayed at POR I requested building 14 and my request was granted. I think you'll be fine. I would just call about 3 days in advance and request it again.

As indicated above, the CM was wrong(!).

Call back. Speak with a different CM. Add your request to your reservation.

POR does not have Preferred location rooms. It has Water View rooms, King Bed rooms, and Standard rooms - standard rooms being all rooms that are not water view and do not have king beds.

I am in the same boat, I have called over and over to get even an idea of the odds, The cm said what another board peron stated "lot of request for those buildings, only so many rooms in the buildings" I would still request it, just defiantly do not plan on it. I was also told they do room assignments a couple days before and request are not honered in order recieved, basically luck of the draw.
Personally I am thinking that is way to iffy for my family (location to Main buidling very important) and I am looking into other hotels that can fit 5.

I'm thinking the same thing. I just called and a CM did add my request for building 14 or something close to the main building. However, I'm wondering if we shouldn't just go for another resort. We really don't want to be way out in the very back of this resort. We will be on the DxDDP, so will be getting our resort mugs for free. It'd be a shame if we never got to use them. Plus my mom is a VERY early riser and really wanted to be able to get up and walk over to the main building and wander around, before me and my husband get up. However, she will be turning 75 y/o during our trip and has absolutely no sense of direction, plus she can't hold out to walk for very long, due to bad knees. She gets lost very easily. PORS may just not be the resort for us this trip.

We are actually going to be the opposite when we request our room. It is just DH and I so that makes it easier. I am going to pay for the king room and really want in the AB section towards the back and out of the way.
