Can anyone tell me if it is a pain to get to the bus stops? It appears to me that there are only 3 bus stops and it seems so few for such a big resort. Can anyone tell me if there is a lot of waiting around or crowded busses at each stop to go to the park in the morning/evening? Thank you! :confused3

There are 4, and we had pretty good service while we were there. We stayed in Oak Manor toward the rear and the walk to the bus stop was maybe 3 or 4 minutes.

As a PP pointed out, there are 4 bus stops. Buses come on average every 20 min. More frequently early in the morning and late evening when the parks open and close. Bus stops can be crowded at those times, since that is when most of the park guests are using the buses. If a bus fills to capacity and there are still guests waiting, the bus driver will call dispatch to send an additional bus. It is usually not a problem except for the very busiest times of the year.(but this holds true for every resort)

If you are unlucky enough to be in one of the worst situated rooms, you'll have a little bit of a hike. I'm not saying its bad, it just after a long day in the park, it may be longer than you would like.

We had a room once that was inconvenient to everything but laundry. I think it was building 17.

Ok, so if we go in Jan/Feb and stay in a Royal Room in building 95. It looks like we have quite the hike to get to the actual bus stop. My DH is concerned about the late night walks with the boys, plus I have arthritis in my knees, etc. Is it the long hike we think? If you could let me know that part that would also be great! Thank you again!

If you are placed in building 95 your closest bus stop would probably be the one outside the main building. At least that is the one that we used. If you have breakfast in the food court in the morning then it's right outside the door. We found that handy. At night we would invariably be stopping in either the general store or the food court before returning to our room, so again, not out of our way. It is only about a 5 minute walk. At least it was for me, using my cane and DH walking slowly beside me. Your DH needn't be concerned about walking late at night- the pathways are well lit and there are always people around.

we have stayed there in August and the bus service was abysmal. infact it pushed us to stay at the WL the next time ( ;) so maybe it was a good thing).

Here is an example
we arrived afternoon, and go to bus stop at 3:45 pm. we wanted to go to AK, to get a bus to AKL for dinner at 5pm.
We waited 50 minutes for a bus to AK. and endedup missing our adr by 20 minutes

another example same trip
we waited several times 30 minutes for a bus to any number of places.

I hate being so negative but in August our experience with bussing at PORS has been absolutely terrible.
(enter a plethora of folks to tell you what an idiot I am and how wrong I am)

We usually allow two bus snafu's per trip regardless of resort. I normally don't blacklist the resort since we've had them happen all over.

We are staying there in Jan/Feb '13. I am wanting to stay in a RR, but my hubby would like to stay in a RV room. Thanks!

We stayed there at spring break and off season and we have never had a long wait. The most we waited was 15 minutes. I thought it was the norm, but maybe we were lucky.

The biggest problem with busses at POR is that they share with POFQ and there are times that the busses fill to capacity before the last stop. During very busy times they run extra busses but during slower times you will definitely be sharing. Other than that, I look at it as "I am not driving and parking in the blazing sun, I am not dealing with all the other tourist drivers who don't know where they are going and I can get on the bus and nap if I want to." Makes the bus issues seem minor. I do drive though if I have an ADR at a resort rather than in the park. It's less of a headache and I don't have to leave my resort as early as I would if I was bussing it.

We were there once in Sept and it was absolutely terrible then too. However, we were traveling with my elderly mom who uses an ECV. Even though we were used the first bus stop (the one at the main building) there were many times she still couldn't get on, because either the bus already had two ECVs on it from POFQ, people were sitting there in the seats where the ECV went and the bus driver didn't want to ask them to move, or they'd say the lift was broken. I know one night we sat through four buses without getting on. After talking to the fourth bus driver, he said he'd call for a bus for us, but his lift was broken (as had been the bus' right before him:rolleyes1:sad2:). We finally got on the fifth bus, after sitting there over 2 hours. Due to my mom's ECV and the trouble we'd been having all week getting on buses, we had allowed 90 minutes to get over to our ADR at the Wave at the Contemporary, before going to the MNSSH party. We completely missed our ADR and was even late getting to the party. I always felt sorry for anyone at the third or fourth stop, because it seemed like those people always had to stand, if they could even get on. Plus buses came really slow that entire week (no where near 20 minutes apart like they are supposed to). There were alot of times where after waiting what we felt like was a very excessive amount of time, we'd look at our watches and it'd still be another 30 minutes before a bus finally showed up. We never really looked at our watches when we first arrived at the bus stop, only after we'd been there what seemed like 30-45 minutes, then alot of times it'd still be another 30 minutes before one showed up.
