POR-Would not return

We stayed at POR 10/20-27. Although it was a beautifully landscaped resort and the pool was great, the service was terrible and I would not return there. The short of it is: room ready 2 hrs late, no luggage delivery after 2 1/2 hrs, dirty room, lost check in at Boathwrights.

If you want the longer version, keep reading.

We arrived at POR on 10/20/07 at 7:45 a.m. Obviously, this was way before check-in, but we and to check-in in order to get our MYW tickets and get to the park for the day. I was told that our room was not available, but would be ready at 3:00, check-in time. We had our luggage placed in the "luggage" area.

We then went to MK. At about 1:30 pm, we decided to head back to POR, so that we could check out the resort, find the pool, restaurants, etc. and get to our room at 3:00 to rest and clean up for dinner and parade/fireworks at MK that night.

While in the resort at 3:00, I call the front desk and was told that our room would not be ready until 5:00. Our dinner reservations were at 5:00, so this meant we couldn't rest, shower, change clothes before going back to MK. We go back to MK for dinner and watched Spectromagic. We decided to skip Wishes because we wanted to be sure to get in our, room, upack, etc.

We arrived at our room at 9:30. I called for our luggage at 9:40. They told me it would be there ASAP. An hour later, I called luggage, and no one answered. I tried a few more times-no answer. At 11:40, I called the front desk, who offered to transfer me to luggage. I declined and told her my situation. She puts me hold for +10 minutes, finally comes back, and says that they are waiting on my luggage from the airport. My luggage was never at the airport! It had been at POR since 7:45 a.m. She says that luggage is very busy.

My husband and I get out of bed (in our clothes-pjs in luggage), leave our sleeping kids alone in the room, and walk to luggage at midnight. The doors automatically open up, and there is my luggage. It was the only luggage in the room! So, my husband and I grabbed it and left. There was another luggage room, and as we walk past that door, it opens up automatically as well. There are 3 people in there standing around doing nothing. I told them that I'd been waiting for 2 1/2 hrs to get my luggage, that I'd picked it up myself and gave them my ticket.

The room itself was okay, except for the hairs in the bathroom when we got there that did not belong to anyone in my family. Gross! Apparently the extra 2 hrs to get the room ready wasn't long enough.

The other bad service was at Boatwrights. We went for dinner one night and checked in about 5 minutes before our reservation time. We were given a beeper and sat in the bar to wait for our table. About 30 minutes later, I went to check on the status of getting seated and was told that I never checked in. I showed the cast member the beeper, and he said that the cast member who checked us in didn't know what she was doing and gave us a beeper but didn't check us in on the computer system, so it would never go off. We were seated about 5 minutes later. It took about an hour for us to get our food as well. It appeared that everyone around us was waiting about that long.

No other complaints! I'm only posting this as a warning to future travelers. We actually didn't have much trouble w/ bus service, which was my major concern when booking there. I loved the boat ride to DTD.
 
Wow. That was a great story, however i feel bad that you had to endure all of that. Please be sure to fire-off a letter to Disney Guest Relations by going to the Disney World website. All of those things you described are so unlike Disney to do. You were much nicer than i would have been. I'd be demanding the manager on duty and having this inefficiency reported and addressed on the spot. I'd hate for someone else to have gone through that at any other time in the future by the same staff on duty that night.

I'm glad the rest of your trip was great, as i presume due to not mentioning anything else wrong with your trip. Did you have a bounceback offer in your room?
 
Yes, everything else was great, as it usually is. The only problem we had was w/ POR. Nope, we didn't have a bounceback offer.
 
Sorry to hear you had a bad time at POR. We were there the 28th through Nov 2 and loved it there. Our room was ready about 4 pm the day we checked in. Room was always clean and we had towel animals/people everyday we were there. Hope they can do something for you to make up for their mistakes.
 

Wow, we've had nothing but great experiences at POR. We were just there in Oct (for 1 night) and will be back in Dec (for 2 nights).
 
We had a great visit to POR last summer. I remember being given a card and there was a phone # on it for me to call and see if our room was ready. I was never told one would be ready at any particular time. Seems odd that they would want to promise a specific time.

Didn't eat at Boatwrights. What did the resort say about your luggage, room and Boatwright difficulties?

Hope the rest of your stay was fun. What resort do you think you'll choose to go to next time?
 
I think the fact that normal check in is 3 gave a sense that the room would be ready by then, it isn't always, not in very busy times. Sorry about the luggage situation. I expect that was miscommunication as they clearly thought you were waiting for ME delivery.
I am do at POR in 8 days myself. I have gone many times before and had the same type general problems you mention both there and at the Poly and the Beach club. Stuff happens it is unfortunate but it does and it is really bad when it happens to you.
 
I was given a card with a number to call about the room as well, but she said that it might be ready early and I could call the # to check.

The resort didn't really have much to say at all about the problems, just that they were busy and the cast member at Boatwrights didn't know what she was doing.


We've stayed at AKL, POP, & Coronado before, and liked all of them. I'd really love to stay at one of the Epcot area resorts, but so far they are out of our budget!
 
Unfortunately, the "between 3 and 5" timeframe gets pulled out of the hat whenever the room isn't ready. It does not matter where you are staying. My parents had that happen last year at the Polynesian, myself at the All Star Sports.

I'm sure someone else knows the exact times.
 
I am sorry to hear you had such a bad experience at POR. We were there back in June and loved it. We had originally wanted a mansion, which we got, but there was no water view, eventhough we paid for one, and it was too far away from anything especially with 2 young kids. My DH made me get on the phone and call the front desk to see what they can do. The man I talked too was so nice about our situation that he was able to get us into the AB section closest to the food court, marina, and busstops, plus when we opened up our shades, all we saw was the river.
 
Sorry to hear about very frustrating stay at POR. I would find it very annoying that the beellman were standing around nothing instead of brining you your luggage. Unfortunately we had bad housekeeping at the Poly too. You should have a clean room on vacation :goodvibes .

Officially - on the phone with DRC, it's 3. But when you get to the resort, it could be "between 3 and 5". Not sure why Disney doesn't just say "by 5". :)
 
Sorry to hear about your bad time. DH and I where ther from 10/22-10/29. We had a great time. We checked in and got into our room at 10:30 am. The room was clean and neat. We never had an trouble at any time.
 
Sorry you had such a bad time. We crossed POR off our list after out stay there last April fro similar reasons. It's too bad because it is beautiful and we enjoyed another stay there but I'm not risking it again.
 
Luggage service has been outsourced and those people do not work for Disney. It is very frustrating!! I had a problem in Sept at POPFQ with getting my luggage. I did complain to Disney. I just hate all the outsourcing they are doing!

With all due respect, it most certainly should be. That's what Disney advertises, that's what they should deliver. The fact that it might be busy isn't the fault of the OP. No excuses for their room not being ready by 3:00.

I won't stay at POR again either. We didn't have any issues while we were there. I just didn't care much for the resort. It's beautiful, but the room (Oak Manor) did nothing for us. if we knew we could get a room in Aligator Bayou, I'd give it another shot, but since that can't be guarenteed, I won't chance it.
 
We have stayed at POR 2 years in a row and have booked a trip again for this coming March. We love this resort, it is so warm and charming. The landscaping is beautiful. We have never really had any major issues with room cleanliness, it has always been super. Too bad for the OP, I think it was just one of those things that sometimes happen.

I won't return either. The shared buses are just to much of a hassle and to rely on. To hit or miss for me.
