I was wondering who has eaten at the Port Orleans Riverside with dietary restrictions? I can't find too much info regarding specific items that Port Orleans Riverside carries except for Divvies Chocolate Chip cookies.

Do they have allergy-friendly Mickey waffles? If not, how about Vann's?

Allergy-friendly chicken tenders?

Silk Soymilk?

Non-dairy milkshakes/ice creams/sorbets?

Any other ideas on what we could get there? Trying to plan accordingly, I'm planning out our stay and it may involve several meals at the resort. Also willing to walk over to French Quarter if they have safe foods.

Thanks for any info!

You can contact Disney in advance and find out what they have at any given restaurant. they warn you it can change at any time, so get it closer to your dates. The email addy is in one of the stickies here.

Regardless, they will have "the book" at the desk so you can see what they have. It's very clear. They will let you look through, but if you tell them, I find most of the chefs/mgr just know what they have and can recommend (and you can then double check they actual igredients in the book)

FYI, Wegoshop will also shop at whole foods for you and deliver. I am having them bring me bunch of stuff (we are egg/oat/gluten)

When we stayed at POFQ we did pop over to POR. The chefs were NOT aware that we could be coming; Special Diets only notified POFQ, not POR (can't say I blame them; I don't think I mentioned that we'd pop over a few times). So, here's what I know of their ability to do with no preparation.

We didn't go over for breakfast, but every single food court at WDW Resorts I believe can make allergy safe Mickey waffles. I'd just mention to Special Diets in your questionaire that you'll be definitely wanting those.

My kids did get the chicken tendeners, Silk soy milk (available in the drink fridge to grab yourself), milkshake made with Silk & Tofutti ice cream (choice of chocolate and vanilla).

One thing that they surprised me by not carrying is Tofutti cheese slices. With notice they could probably get them in but they didn't seem to have them on hand when we went.

They did carry Ener-G pizza crusts but no cheese. I don't know if these have eggs or not since my kids can't eat them for other reasons. They really are terrible crusts IMO. The chefs at POFQ premade gluten, milk, egg, yeast and nut free pizzas for my girls because I mentioned how much it would mean to them to be able to get that. The chefs were WONDERFUL!!! The chefs at POFQ also prepared a batch of gluten, milk, egg and nut free brownies for my girls (safe for our level of nut free, not sure about yours; they use Bob's Red Mill mix but I believe that's also what they use for the waffles so if you have problems with Bob's Red Mill then you need to discuss that with the chefs).

They also carried Ener-G hamburger buns but again, I don't know if those have eggs or not since my girls can't eat them for other reasons. Boy do I wish Ener-G didn't use citrus fiber in their products. Sigh....

We had one chef at POR offer to try to come up with a ranch-like salad dressing for DD10 but we told him not to bother since it was our last time over at POR that trip. She would have loved it I'm sure. I'm just trying to show you that they will try their best to make something yummy that meets your own tastes.

With advanced notice, chefs can and will do a lot for you. We do tend to eat at least 1 meal per day at our resort so I like to contact chefs at our resort to make sure that there will be options for our kids. If I was only eating 1 or two meals at the resort I probably wouldn't bother because they do carry enough to give a bit of variety for a couple of meals.

Wow, thank you SO much! I guess I wasn't really sure that there were actual "chefs" at the counter service in the resorts, so I didn't know how much they could do for us with what they had on hand. Fortunately none of dd's allergies are sensitive enough to worry about same-factory-as-allergen products, so Bob's Red Mill won't be an issue. Hopefully they can make her those waffles! Great to know that she can get ice cream/milkshakes on those hot August days, too!! :cool1:

No problem if there's no Tofutti cheese--they've just started carrying true DF cheese where we live and I just tried making her some pizza & grilled cheese with it and it was a no-go, even with small amounts, she wasn't a fan. She always eats her pizzas with just sauce & pepperoni. I don't think she's too picky about her crusts; if they have the GF I'm pretty sure it's egg/dairy free too, but we'll check.

I wonder if they carry Tofutti Cream Cheese?

Do you know if they have Earth Balance?

Getting excited and it's still 7 months away!!

Thanks again, that was so much help! I'll def. let them know a few weeks before we get there, as well.

CS locations in the parks do not have chefs; they have managers. The manager will come out and discuss your food options with you and will personally prepare the allergy food for you. CS locations at resorts on the other hand DO have chefs which is WONDERFUL!!! It really is one of the reasons we eat the majority of our CS meals at our resort. You'll want to order the milkshake from the chef when you're ordering the allergy meals as he'll be the one to get the milkshake, not the people at the ice cream counter.

It does look like the pizza crusts are egg free. With advanced notice they may be able to get in the Follow Your Heart Vegan Gourmet cheese. They did at POFQ. That particular cheese really does taste good and it melts beautifully and has a good texture. Whenever I shred some at home, DD10 will gobble some up as I'm shredding it. I generally have to shred twice as much as I need just so I have enough left after she gets to it. Yes, it's that good.

I know that some places at WDW carry Earth Balance. I don't remember if resorts do or not. Ask Special Diets; they'll find out for sure. They'll email a chef at the resort who will give you a definitive answer. Chances are if they don't carry it that they'll get it in for your stay.

For making mac & cheese at home, I just melt a package of Tofutti american cheese, add in around a heaping tbsp of margarine and a bit of rice milk (enough to give the consistency I like; maybe 1/4 cup max). It works best with unflavoured milk though you can even skip the milk and just use margarine. I just toss that over a package of macaroni noodles. Chefs at Pop and POFQ have made something similar for my kids using Tofutti cheese.

I don't know about Tofutti cream cheese. It's anothing thing you can ask Special Diets. I bet they'd order it in if it's something you'd be interested in. Chefs really are wonderful about this sort of thing. Don't feel guilty about them ordering things in just for you; when chefs have something they don't usually get in they do offer the stuff to other guests as well. I've had chefs tell me very excitedly about things they've got in for other guests that they'd love to offer to us as well. Chefs at the resort CS locations really do go way above and beyond and seem to REALLY love what they do. They're the BEST!!!

Thank you for all the great info! Good to know that there is a chef at POR quick service--I'll continue to plan most of our QS meals there. :thumbsup2

We have stayed at both resorts. PO-FQ has changed their menu a bit and I found it harder to work with for lunch and dinner. They still had a nut safe bread and no problem making changes for breakfast orders. They did have some wrong info on the egg product they use and I did get a bit ill but luckily realized and didn't each much. POR was busier and it took longer to get allergy orders. I did eat the create your own pasta a few times. Each time they made it in the back but one of the times they took ingredients out of the mixed up bins. The only ingredient I worried about cross contam was pesto and not even sure if that had nuts. I was fine though. They did use Amy's Organic sauce instead of the regular because it was easier for them to find the gredients for that. The only dessert I could have at POR was divvies and at PO-FQ I could have divvies or they also had those prepackaged cakes and the chocolate version I could have. It has a nut factory warning but not produced on the same equipment warning which I can do.
