POR vs POFQ??

Every time I read someone's post about why they love POR more I say "yes! That's right, I love POR the best!"


Then I read a post about why POFQ is the best and I say "yes, that's true, I love POFQ more!"

I seriously can't decide. Overall we had a better trip at POFQ but that had nothing to do with the resort at all.

Here at POFQ sitting in the food court now. I could do without the masks, but deal with that by just not looking up at them. What is important is that the bus service is fantastic. Never much of a wait. Yesterday we walked to POR so my son could press pennies, and decided to catch to bus to mk from there. There was a huge crowd already waiting, and half full buses kept showing up that could not accommodate even a fraction of the crowd. People were starting to get very aggravated. We made it onto the second bus but it was clear that anyone who did not aggressively pursue a spot might be there a long time. I have already booked a bounceback to return to POFQ next year. Just my 2 cents.

I know this topic must have been beaten to death on the boards here already, but which would you pick between Riverside and French Quarter? I'm thinking of a fall trip for DH & I and I'd like to stay at one of the 2 Port Orleans resorts because they are more quiet/romantic than the other moderates. I've been to POR years ago, but DH hasn't been to either. The "royal rooms" don't make a difference to us - we'd be in a standard room either way.

Both resorts are beautiful. It comes down to your touring style. If you get up early, bus and food court crowd does not matter. However, if your not rope drop people, than the bus service from POR can stink. The food court at POFQ gets crowded easily because it is small.

POR has a better pool, better food choices, and IMHO prettier scenery.

POFQ has a nice pool, good food choices, pretty scenery, better bus service, shorter walks to food, pool and bus stop and if you request a building closer to POR, a short walk to all of the advantages of POR.

If I was taking my wife for a romantic getaway, than I would choose POR. If I was older or were going with young kids, I would choose POFQ for the compactness.

I choose POR over POFQ simply because I like the room decor at POR better! However I love everything else about POFQ--size, pool, atmosphere, closer to DTD, etc.
Sometimes it boils down to one reason that helps you decide.
Could you try a split stay?

Since they are so close, I don't view the bus situation as a problem -- when we stayed in January, if there was a crowd at the POR stops, we walked over the POFQ stop and got on there. It couldn't have taken 10 minutes, and I will take the fifth amendment with respect to stopping to purchase beignets to enjoy while waiting for the bus.

Both resorts are fantastic but POR wins for me. Whichever one you choose, make sure you take a walk through the mansion section of POR at night. Sooooo magically beautiful and romantic.

We love the beignets. Nothing gets the heart going like fried dough and powder sugar. If on the dining plan, makes for a good use for those snack credits.

Just wanted to add, that the masks are from real Mardi Gras parade floats from the Mardi Gras World Museum in New Orleans, therefore adding to the authentic feel of New Orleans and the French Quarter!

If you took the masks down from the ceiling, put them on the front of a parade float, they'd look 100% real, authentic, and appropriate.

As someone who's been to the French Quarter many many times, it feels like I'm back there all over again. And add to that, the fact that my wife and I honeymooned in New Orleans, we feel like we're back there every time we step foot in the resort! It really does feel like home for us!

Discounts: if there are discounts, POR will have a bigger one. FQ tends to be excluded from discounts or only at maybe 5% while other mods have 20 -25% off.

We actually just encountered the opposite when booking our October trip. We originally booked at POR, then discovered when we went to apply the RO discount that POFQ was the one with 20% but POR was only 5%. So we switched to POFQ.

Not saying it doesn't happen the other way, just wanted to mention that it's not necessarily always the case if it matters to OP.

Having said all that, I love both resorts and it is very hard to choose!

I love both too. I prefer POFQ though. It's smaller and has 1 central bus stop. That's important to me.

I find both food courts to be fine. I think POR is prettier and has a better pool, but that's not enough to choose it over POFQ.

I agonized like you did and went with POFQ. The food court is nicer at POR and has more food options it seems, but we liked to eat in the parks or at the resorts so we only ate there one time. The pool at POR is definitely for older kids and I was worried my 6 yo son would prefer that. He was very happy with the slide at POFQ and it was about a two minute walk to our room. If we would have stayed at POR, I would have tried to get a closer room in the Bayou because of the distance to the pool. Our room was lovely and the grounds were tranquil at POFQ and we were so close to the bus station. We never missed a bus. The bus reports at POR were worrisome. We were also going spring break which was guaranteed to be a busy time so I prioritized easier bus access.

Thanks for the update about the masks! I like knowing they're authentic.

DH and I went to POFQ for our honeymoon in Oct 2011. It was beautiful and super romantic. The pool was always empty (loved it!) but the hot tub was almost always full. No wait at all for the bus... Loved the fact that the resort was small.

We were not big fans of the foodcourt there but the breakfast was excellent.

The rooms were refurbished a few weeks before our honeymoon, everything looked brand new.

I've tried two other (deluxe) resort since and I plan on trying other resorts but I would go back in a heartbeat!
