POR vs CBR

Ok, after much debate and decision, we have decided that our pocketbooks can really only handle a moderate for our quick trip in early June.

We LOVED CSR but are now determined to try all the Disney Resorts so for this trip we are going to try POR or CBR.

POR sounds better to me with what I have read so far but I am concerned with cleanliness. It seems that every report I read recently lists mold in the bathrooms and dirty stained carpeting. Is this true of most rooms or is this uncommon. We are thinking of AB section, we're smokers and want to be near the main pool. What area would be best for us?

Is CBR really that big? I don't mind if it is big as long as we can be somewhat well located to the main pool as well as the food court/restaurant. What do you guys think?

So, give me the lowdown on:
1)transportation
2)pools
3)cleanliness
4)other stuff that you think I should know.

Thanks!

I would take CBR personally because of the closing of POFQ. I thinkg that CBR is very nice, but is a spread out resort. If you request and receive a room in an area close to OPR and the main pool (like Martinique 25 or 26) you should be fine and since much (if not all) of the resort was recently refurbed it would be nice IMO.

When we went there the transportation was ok, buses came very regularily, but if you just missed a bus it would be a little bit of a wait like any other resort. Martinique 25/26 would be close to both the Martinique stop and the OPR stop too.

The main pool is not going to be like SAB or anything but is fine and has the slide and some water cannons. The quiet pools are plentiful and are very quiet.

When we visited it was before the rehab but our room was very cleaned and well appointed. I did see some dark areas in the corners of the bathroom but that was about it. POR is going to be part of the rehab/refurb soon so I am assuming at least some of the rooms are showing a bit of wear.

The food court at CBR has lots of offerings as I'm sure POR does too so I can't compare.

Safetymom here on the dis has lots of good info about CBR and check out the FAQ thread too.

HTH!

We just returned from CBR, and we have stayed at POR (DXL) previously. CBR is big and spread out-much more than I expected. We were in Trinidad North 32, and it was not a bad walk to the food courts and stores. However, one night I spoke with another family who were in Barbados. They were not at all happy. In fact, they were trying to change rooms to get closer to the food court. I was very pleased with our room and the facilities. Everything was tropical and breezy-looking.

However, and this is just my own opinion, if I had to chose between our room at CBR, and the one we had at POR (DXL Alligator Bayou) I would take POR. We liked the physical set-up better.

I usually purchase the resort mug for the soda fill-ups, but did not do that at CBR. I knew that I wouldn't feel like the walk back to the food court at night. It is all personal choice.

I have never stayed at POR but we did visit it during our first trip when friends of ours were staying there and we just didn't like it. The theme isn't our idea of a vacation to Orlando. I guess we feel like we have to have warm weather, sunshine and a more tropical feel to our trips (we are hoping to stay at the poly soon out of all the deluxes if that tells ya anything). In addition, our friends staying at POR didn't enjoy the resort so that stuck in our minds as well.
If you liked CSR ( we did too!) you will like CBR. CSR is more spread out so the walk seems like forever there. At CBR we chose Jamaica which was acros the bridge, it took less than 5 minutes to the main pool, food court and shops. Plus, the grounds are beautiful! Also, they have a new food court, and the rooms were all refurbished over the last few years or so.
For me, another great thing about CBR is location. Near Epcot, close to the Studios and AK and a few more minutes to MK, it is a great location. POR is just too out of the way for us. :) Good luck.

I have stayed at CSR, CBR and POR. We still like CBR the best. If you like a tropical feel then CBR is for you. I suggest you visit the thread above for more information on CBR.

I also have pictures of CBR on my website. It is a beautiful resort.

There are many great places to stay in CBR. It depends what you want to be near. But usually it is only a 5 min. walk to the food court.

I can only tell you about CBR. It is a very nice resort. Is it big. YES. So if you stay there study a map to find the building location you would like and request it. We stayed there in 97 and made last minute ressies for the fourth of July and were WDW first timers. We were in the building farthest from the food court and it was quite a hoof. That being said the place is so spread out that you never feel like you are in a crowded resort even when it is full. They also have quiet pools at each group of buildings and excellent bus service that stops at each group of buildings..

We've stayed at both resorts and preferred CBR. As others have mentioned, we really loved the tropical theme. We also preferred the food court. Would definitely stay there again.
