Hey POR Veterans!

Tell me something you've noticed about POR that isn't normally discussed. Like I've heard "the grounds are beautiful and peaceful" and all that.

But give me some little details. Little stuff you think nobody would care about.

Because I DO! :)

Well, it's hard to know what you've heard!?! We loved POR for a number of reasons. Bob Jackson, the piano man, is a riot, and provides great entertainment, the gift store I found very charming. It's nice having a bar right beside the pool. Despite it being such a large resort, it didn't seem like it took very long to get anywhere.

This resort offers fishing. We've never done it, but it's something you might not have heard about.

It also has boat transportation as well as bus transportation to DTD.

You can rent bikes and boats at this resort.

You can pool hop with POFQ.

How about this. . . our first trip there, it was so peaceful, natural and so many little creatures that my family thought I was going insane. :rotfl:

At our bus stop I kept seeing this little armadillo run through the grass across the road. And of course as soon as I'd yell for everyone to look, he'd duck out of the way so you couldn't see him. My mom and aunt at the time didn't realize there were armadillos in FL, so they SWORE I was seeing things. Finally towards the end of the trip we saw him from the bus and I happily I-told-you-so'ed them.

Funny thing happened last December, we stayed at POFQ. It has to have been at least 10 years since that trip. Mom and I were on the bus making it's way through POR and I mentioned, "Hey, remember that armadillo .. ." And just a few minutes later there goes an armadillo scurrying across the grass. I like to think it was the same one :teeth: Hey, it's Disney - if I can convince myself that 5 foot tall mice are something to cuddle and not run screaming away from, I can convince myself that it's the same armadillo!

We stayed at POR in 2001 and LOVED the resort. I love the south and this resort had such southern charm! Be sure to take the boat to Downtown Disney. It's not just a boat ride. The driver acts as a tour guide also! If you have time, ride surrey bikes around the resort. It's a great way to see it all.
The piano man in the lounge is outstanding, don't miss it!
On our last day there, a cast member offered to take our picture on the bridge that goes over the pool. We posed then realized there were ducks swimming in the pool.
Great resort..............you'll love it!

The boat to DTD is a great way to see the old "treehouse" style resorts that used to be part of The Disney Village. Most of the windows were open with lights on & you could see right in. It was my favorite part of the boat trip because I really wanted to stay there when I was a child.

My DD was 4 years old when we stayed there. Her favorite part of the hotel was to see all of the bunnies running around. She also liked the "old fashioned" toilets in the bathrooms in the main building.

While at POR, make sure you get a slice of pecan pie :thumbsup2 . Also, take time to sit in one of the courtyards.

One year the bunnies were trying to attack us. The couple of times we saw them they would start hopping towards us instead of away.

There is an area in the food court with Legos for the kids to play with and a tv. My son liked to hang out there while we finished eating when he was younger. He would meet lots of other kids, and it gave us a chance to relax while we were eating.

The quiet pools are a great place to relax away from the action at the main pool. There are laundry rooms next to each quiet pool; very convenient if you are like me and hate to go home with a ton of dirty clothes!

Just thinking about POR makes me want to change our CSR reservation to POR. I promised my DH something new and we have been to POR at least ten times!

They used to have a bus that would take you directly to Fort Wilderness for the Hoop de doo. Every time we stayed there since our honeymoon, we rode that bus to the show.... but if you asked about it at the front desk, they would tell you it didn't exist. (there was a really little sign at the south depot that stated the bus ran after 4pm)
I am not sure if it is still there or not, we didn't do the Hoop de doo on our last trip.

There is also a butterfly garden behind one of the mansions. Arcadia I think.

Please don't start a huge arguement about this one but, If you have an old dixie landings mug, there is free lifetime refills.
(It is on a sign in the background of one of our older home videos.......)

HAHAHA! I first read POP instead of POR. So as I'm reading these thinking to myself.............hmm I didn't know any of this. No wonder! Wrong resort!

It is enchanting walking between POFQ & POR at night. All the lights shining on the water is just magical.

One of the boat drivers we had to DTD handed out Mardi Gras beads and coins to everyone and told us all lots of history about New Orleans and gave us lots of history on the resort and the animals around the resort. There are boxes all along the river that automatically feed the fish in the river! I have never seen so much wildlife at any other resort as I did at POR. Lots of bunnies, squirrels, and lizards. Also, the hidden mickeys in the bedspread and around the room are neat to find. This is one of our most favorite resorts! We call it a modeluxe because it never feels like a moderate to us.

OK here's my favorite part but it is the French Quarter hope it still counts, I am a great lover of all music cajun, blues and zydecoo! I was tickled pink to hear my son take note "hey Mom even the bushes here love that crazy music you listen to!" The pipped in music of all my favs while sitting poolisde had my vote! I love the fact that they have carriage rides, hope I can take one someday!

The Riverside store had much more than the French Quarter. We are hoping to go and stay at the riverside nexy year I was impressed when we took the boat ride over and was in love with the plantation houses. Just a Gone with the wind romantic!

:rotfl2: OMG!!!! I have been teasing my teenage daughter endlessly for the last couple of years about the armadillo that only she saw during our stay at CSR!!!! Too funny....nobody tell her they actually exist because I'm still having way too much fun teasing her about the "phantom" armadillo and how she must have had too much sun that day or possibly seen some "animatronic" creature.....it's Disney isn't it????? :lmao:

I am loving these responses! Thanks for really bringing it home guys! You have gone far and beyond the usual "peaceful, beautiful" shtick. I'm really excited to go now.

And to add to the above quote - we had an armadillo cross our path at ASMU. It was very, very weird. ;)

You know what was cool about POR? There were little tiny lizards & froggies around that my kids just loved seeing (being from NY we don't see that very often..well never to be exact) anyway..one day we were sitting at the food court by the window & there was a tiny little lizzard perched outside the window. My kids watched him for the entire meal...even went to 'check on him" later during the trip. Another night was had a frog stuck to out room door. He just hung there..my kids loved that too..of all the things that there is to amaze children at Disney..I think the "critters" at POR was high on the list for them.

It has always been a dream of mine to stay at POR. Since we started going I've loved the theming of it. Finally in December of '05, we stayed there. I will never stay there again, but I will tell you what I did like about it.

We LOVED the boat ride. It was very nice and relaxing. It was neat to see the river first thing in the morning. It was so calm. Be careful on the bridge, though, it does get slick with the dew. We LOVED Bob Jackson. We had no intentions of really seeing him. Just happened upon him. We didn't think it would be for our kids, but they loved him. Lots of interaction.

And I think I'm glad that I missed all the creatures that people are talking about!
