POR rooms question?

Hi There,

Headed back to the World in late April. Two adults. Booked the POR. I have stayed there before in the Alligator Building 17. I have been hearing about the Mansions and I wondering if then would not be a better choice.

What are the Mansions like. Easy to bus and food court. Do they have the "nature" feel that the Alligator area has?

Is there a FAQ thread for POR?

Thanks,

Just got back from POR last night. Stayed in Magnolia Terriace. It was beautiful. Very easy walk to the main buildings and Ole Man Island. We stayed in Alligater Bayou last year, building 14 and I think the short walk was closer this time. There is a bus stop right behind Magnolia Terrace. As a bonus, the buses stop here before stopping at the main bus depot where it tends to be crowded in the mornings. The rooms are the same size in both building types but the decor is certainly different. The mansions have beautiful grounds surrounding them while the bayou is a little "darker" being that they are situated among trees. We've stayed at POR twice now and can't wait to visit again! :Pinkbounc

The main difference between the two areas is that AB is much more rustic and the bldgs are smaller and more secluded. The Mansions are much more formal...cherry type furniture and brocade fabrics. The Mansions can have three floors but there are elevators. The gardens are much more formal also. We have stayed in both at this point. Dd has requested AB for our brief visit in June.

We requested Magnolia Terrace for our visit in April. We have a 4 yr old, 1 yr old, and I am currently pg. Since the mansions have elevators, I thought it would be easier carrying luggage, kids, stroller, etc if we are not on the lower level. Do they have luggage carts if you choose not to use the bell services?

I only saw luggage carts at the front entrance that were being used by CM's as they unloaded buses, cars etc and brought the luggage over to the bell service area. I never saw any visitor using them. We've used the bell service and love that all you have to do is call them once you're in your room and they deliver the luggage within 10 minutes. We had our 1yr old and 3 yr old grandsons with us and this service made the check in process so much smoother. I highly recommend it. :goodvibes Have fun in April. We loved Magnolia Terrace.

On disney.com they only offer standard view rooms or water view rooms. No pool view rooms. What exactly would I get with a water view, the lake or the pool?

We paid for a water view room and the pool was just outside of our room. We were on the first floor of Magnolia Terrace. A water view room could get you either a pool view or the river. To them, water is water. We had room 8576 and it was very nice. Our daughter and her family were in 8575, a corner room with 2 big windows. Very, very nice. :sunny:

Just returned yesterday and we stayed in Oak Manor in the Mansions. This was my first stay at POR, and at check-in I just asked the cast member to put me in the room she thought was the best (I had only previously reuqested Magnolia Bend, but no specific rooms or views). She sure chose a great one! We were in one of the famous "corner rooms" (9235) that have two large windows. The sunlight was beautiful. I can't say enough about the resort as a whole- I have a new favorite place to stay! :goodvibes

the water view is not worth the extra price here. (at POFQ is seems to be)

I got the fountains (which I knew you could also see with a standard view) for my water view..... :confused3

won't do that again!

Thanks your all your replies to my question. I think I'm going to try out one of the Mansions this time.

Since May I've stayed at the Dolphin, POFQ, PO (AB), FW and the All Star Music. This is a spur of the moment trip between a value and a moderate. So by picking the PO I can choose a different experience by staying at a Mansion.

I am one of those who likes the laid back atmosphere and the natural landscaping of the PO.

I just like staying at the World...even if everything is not perfect!

the AB. However, both sections are unique and very nice. Here is a link to some of our POR photos from our January trip (we stayed in Acadian House):

You'll really enjoy this resort. Don't miss Bob "The Piano Man" Jackson perform in the River Roost Lounge, Wednesday-Sunday evenings, 8:30-Midnight!

We stayed 3rd Floor Acadian House and loved it. We were a short walk to the food court and pool. And the bus stop was a 2 minute walk. The property is lovely, I wish we had a chance to walk around more.

I hope we get the mansion section again this November.
