Sorry if duplicate.

Overall, we had a fabulous time at Disney and really liked POR. It was our first time there after staying at WL last summer. Our group consisted of me, my DH, DS1 (6 years old) and DS2 (4 years old).

The property is absolutely gorgeous, very relaxing. The main pool is great, kids had a blast. We were always able to get a chair. The hot tub is up and running, beware it is VERY HOT.

We were in Magnolia Terrace and loved the location of the building. It took us thirty seconds to get to the East bus stop. It was also a very short walk to the main pool and the main building.

Our room was very pretty and clean, and I loved the layout. We had more than enough room for all of our clothes and toiletries. Our luggage did not fit under the bed though, so we had to store it in the corner of the room, but no big deal. Mousekeeping was great.

Some negatives in comparison to WL: Since it is a motel-like set up in that you enter from the outside, there is no central air and I found the air conditioning very noisy. Also, there were a few bugs in the room I think because the door opens to the outside. Only a few on the first day, after that none.

Bus service was fine at all times except after Wishes and Spectromagic when it became horrible. I think Disney is really dropping the ball here. The first night we stayed for Wishes it took us until near midnight to get back to our room. This ruined our plans for the next day because we were all too tired to get to early entry. We tried one more time and then had to skip Wishes altogether.

There were only 2 buses there after closing, and then there was a lag of about 5-10 minutes for the next one. This doesn't sound bad, except that it takes about 10 minutes to even board the bus when it is there. The process of getting those in a wheelchair on the bus took at least five minutes and then another five to board. We were usually standing too, which is not fun with a four year old. If there were only more buses ready to take people at closing, it would have gone much quicker. During the day bus service was fine, and it was fine for Epcot and MGM.

The restaurants at POR were also lacking. The food court was so slow and the food terrible compared to the one at WL. We did not eat at Boatwrights but the decor was not appealing to me.

Overall though, POR was a great value. WL was a little nicer in most aspects (except the beauty of the grounds, there I felt they were equal) but I would definitely stay at POR again.

Feel free to ask any further questions.

Were you at POR FQ or Riverside???

Yeah, the busses can get you down at night... That's why I always wait around in the parks til a majority of the people have left - I find the bus wait isn't as intolerable as when you try and be the first one out of the park...

Glad you liked it! I'm staying at FQ in May and can't wait!!!

Oops, we were at POR Riverside.

As far as waiting out the crowds, it really wasn't the bus ride itself that was the problem it was the time it took for the whole process. If we waited around for the crowds to thin, it seems that would take just as long to get back to the room. It is just so difficult with crabby, tired kids (and adults).

Oh, it definitly takes just as long, if not longer, if you wait in the parks... But I just found it was a more enjoyable wait because you can soak in the atmosphere or do some shopping... Yes, I'm always crabby by that point to, and since I don't have kids I have no idea what that'd be like! (Although, I've seen enough of them passed out or in a trance on the bus late at night to get an idea :rotfl: )

Thanks for your honest review! We are staying 3 nights after a 1 night stay at Beach Club and are looking forward to it. I'm glad to hear there were chairs available at the pool, that's always a worry to me.

Thankfully, we don't plan to eat at the foodcourt at all, but may have breakfast at Boatwrights a couple of times.

We loved POR...one of our favorite resorts. It is hard getting back to your resort after Wishes. After many trips to WDW we now try to stand way back closer to the exit areas now. Those with the really good spots have to take much more time going back to the buses. But, take heart, it isn't just POR that that happens with. We've had the same issue with the AllStars buses, with BC, BW and even the ferry back to the Polynesian. The CR was the only resort that was actually nice to get back to after Wishes!!!

And we are one of the families that actually like the food court at POR. The only one I have found that I like a bit better is at ASMusic. I had some really decent stuff there. But, the lines at POR food court can get very long. And it used to be only at particular times of day...7:30-9, then noon-2 and then after 5ish. Not anymore. And we did find the CM's working there to be somewhat surly...just didn't appear to enjoy doing their jobs. And yes, I do realize we're not talking about a paycheck of mammouth proportions. But, you do know what you will be getting paid. If you don't like it, don't take the job. this is a service industry and you are serving people on their vacation in what is supposed to be 'the most magical place on earth'. Try to at least smile and say hello. But, we try to ignore those folks and still love this resort. I'm so happy when I hear of others that have a good time there. As far as the a/c goes....at least at POR is stays on....at BCV it goes off if no one is moving around the room. It got a little stuffy in that room at night!!!

Hi and thanks for the posting of your experience at POR. We are arriving on 8/8 to POR. After following discussions over several months, we decided to rent a car for a couple of days as well to use for Wishes & Sea World. Last year, the kids were zonked by the time all was through and we were able to take the monorail back to the hotel. While there is still a wait for the monorail, it is not nearly as bad as waiting for the buses at midnight with kids. We are also thinking about making the TTC our "hub" and catching the monorail from there. Any suggestions would be helpful as we have 2 kids, 6 & 8. Also, hope this makes it through as it is my first time posting.

In your opinion is WL worth the extra $100/night verses staying at POR? We have the money, but $100 extra seems like a lot! We're going back and forth between the two. :)

I have never stayed at WL, but I have heard that it is beautiful. Keep in mind, your main transportation would be by boat or bus - or fork out extra money for the car rental.

Friends of ours stayed at WL last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, but this year they are staying at POR (they have stayed here in the past as well). She thought while WL was wonderful, you were getting more of your money's worth staying at POR. I have not stayed here since it was Dixie Landings, so we are either going to be pleasantly surprised or terribly disappointed.

Our whole issue for the last 2 years was we wanted to stay on the monorail line - we made ourselves a promise back in 1995 when we walked through the GF that the next time we went to Disney, we would stay there. And we did, this time with kids, which made all the difference being on the monorail line. Last year, we were given a complimentary room upgrade at GF with a castle view in the main lodge on the concierge floor with the food - that type of vacation (concercierge/food level) will never happen again unless I hit Lotto!

I have read on various sites that if you want the feeling of a deluxe, that POR is the next best thing - Is anyone out there better equipped to answer this question?

While I have never 'stayed' in WL, I've been over there many times. It's a wonderfully themed resort. Very beautiful. The grounds are wonderful. The restaurant offerings are very nice also. The deciding factor for me would be which parks am I planning on being in the most. If it's MK, then WL will fit the bill quite nicely. If you will be going to them all, equally, then POR will be fine. POR is quite centrally located.
POR does have a food court. some like it, some don't. It does have Boatwrights for a sit-down table service meal. The main pool is nice, good sized with a 'decent' slide. My dd thought it was wonderful until she stayed at BW and tried out Luna Park. POR is a beautiful resort to just walk around at the end of the day. It has a very pleasant boat ride to DTD and you can walk over to POR-FQ and try out their pool also. But, it is still a moderate. Outside halls, 2 or 3 levels rather than many floors with elevators.

If you can swing the extra money, I would go with WL. Maybe you can stay at POR for the first several nights and then transfer over to WL. Many people do that. Disney will transport your luggage for you or you can move yourself and your luggage in a cab...not very expensive.

So, at WL you can....take a boat to MK.
Take a boat to CR and grab the monorail and go to Epcot (after transferring at TTC)
Take buses to the other parks
Close to Ft. Wilderness...nice for the kids
Inside hallways...added security...although I stayed at POR with my dd and never was nervous
Food offerings...WCC, Artist Point, Roaring Forks
Pool is nice

POR...
buses to everywhere
boat to DTD
many, many pools. I think it's about 7...main POR pool on Ole Man Island, main pool at POR-FQ and 5 quiet pools spread around POR
large food court (that's good and bad)
Boatwrights
Riverroost...lounge with Bob the Piano man..lots of fun for families
'motel' like set-up..outside halls
cheaper than WL

Understand....I really do love POR..just trying to be fair.

I am not sure about the TTC idea, as we never went there. We did have our car with us, but I had read on the boards not to drive to Magic Kingdom so we never attempted it. One thing that did work well for us was when we had dinner reservations at Ohanas at the Polynesian. We drove to the hotel, then took the monorail to MK after dinner, then took the monorail back to the hotel, and then drive back to POR. This would work at any monorail hotel and may be a good reason to eat dinner at one. Good luck!

It is a tough call, but I think I would stay at POR over WL for our next trip even with POR's shortcomings. Although WL was nicer, I don't necessarily think it was $80 to $100 a night nicer. However, if money was no object I would probably even skip WL and go for the POLY.

BTW, last summer at the WL, we took the ferry back after Wishes on numerous occasions and although it was more crowded than in the day, it was still MUCH better than the POR bus service after Wishes.

I've stayed at both WL and POR and love both. I do feel that it is quieter at POR. We never heard any foot traffic while staying at POR. It's so convenient to have the choice of using either the quiet pools or the theme pool.

We do not like walking thru a resort with our bathing suits (indoor corridors) and for that reason we feel more comfortable at POR.

We really like walking around the resorts in the evening and just love the walk around POR. Can be quite romantic.

I definately want to visit WL again sometime and my husband is very content to stay with PO.

I'll be staying at POFQ in September. Are there any bldgs or rooms I should request?

We were there over Spring Break and it was quite crowded but we managed to get chairs no matter what. In fact one time when I was going to the hot tub while my son and dad lounged in the chairs nearby, a woman insisted...really INSISTED I take one of her chairs. :rotfl: "But I was going to the hot tub, I don't want to sit down in the chair." I did thank her though it was awfully sweet of her. We never had a problem with anyone at POR, in fact people overall were extremely happy and relaxed and more than willing to share chairs. We did the same when we had a chair and table at POFQ swimming, a man asked if his son could sit at the table with us so he'd have a table to eat his food at and of course we were more than happy to share.

HAVE breakfast at Boatwrights for sure it is WONDERFUL, the best I've ever had anywhere. The Sweet Potato Pancakes with Pecan Butter and the Blueprint Omlette are my favorites.

Above all, enjoy a wonderful resort! :sunny:

We have stayed at WL, CBR, AKL concierge, SOG, ASM, POP, POFQ, WL villas, BC, and by far our favorite is the POR. I found the WL to be wonderful depending on your room. Twice our room was courtyard, and the noise from the hallway and elevator was awful. Also the mattresses were so worn I couldn't sleep. The lodge is beautiful. But for the price, the POR is wonderful. The grounds are just beautiful and have won numerous national awards for landscaping. The rooms are quiet, the food court is a food court, and I get tired of it. Breakfast at food court is good - you can get an omlette made to your liking. I think the food court is very nice as far as the atmosphere, and it is alway CLEAN. AKL was pretty, but the room we had at $450 a night smelled of mildew and it made me sick - 8 days of it. We go to WDW 4 times a year and two of the weeks we spend at POR. It is like coming home.
