CoachMinnie, I know from info here that the most recent renovations were on the Mansions buildings. I think maybe they were closing 1 at a time (they are giant). We usually stay in Alligator Bayou and on trips in March and June, our rooms were in great shape. Fridges are evidently on the way; I just asked the same question here a few days ago. Seems like if your room doesn't have one you can request one and maybe they don't even charge anymore.
Our rooms have always been clean and in very good shape. It's nice to ask for a room close to the food court as the resort is quite large. We have been assigned to corner rooms a few times and these are extra nice and have an extra window.
The quiet pools are really nice and surrounded by lush greenery. Very pretty. The main pool area is busy and fun, with a cool slide (not scary) and an adjacent pool bar that serves yummy drinks. My kids love this pool. There is also a playground and fishing hole near the pool.
Riverside is beautiful. I think in general the moderates are a good bargain for all you get, and Riverside is my all-time favorite.
The food court is fairly good. It can get very busy at the main meal times but there is tons of seating. They offer refillable mugs. There is chicken, pasta, pizza and burgers for dinner plus ice cream, bakery goods, and tons of a la carte items available. Seems like there was something for everyone. It's expensive but nothing unusual by WDW standards. There is also a small selection of basic groceries -- milk, soda, bread, beer, donuts -- for sale in the gift shop.
Have fun!
