Ok i was so impatient lately about the remodel situations at POR. I called the relocation unit and was on hold for a little bit 10 minutes while she called up the resort and was told construction does not start till the 25th of may. I stay from the 17th-25th in a king bed room. They said all people saying prior to the 25th are kept put.

:(
I am going to be there from 5/21-5/28 and was originally staying at POR. I wonder what they would have done with me? I upgraded myself to the Yacht Club with the AXA code and no extra bonus from Disney.

Oh well...3 weeks from today and I'm there! WOOOHOOOO!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

If you booked a king room at the POR and they are giving you what you booked why are worrying? Not to sound nasty, but why do you feel you should get an upgrade?

I agree.

I am staying there from 15 - 20th, and am booked in a h/c room. I do not expect any upgrades (unless there is no h/c room for me there or at another moderate). and in that case, they should be free (in my situation).

Still expecting to stay at Riverside (for the first time) in 15 days!

But what stinks is they wont upgrade me i just have to stay at POR.

I don't think Disney sees it as a libility, since you are leaving the day they are starting the refurb's. Disney also does a great job of containing any construction "dust", so even if you were there when they were working, the work site would most likely be drapped in plastic, and your gf wouldn't have to worry about her allergies. I dont' know how you would prove that Disney was the cause if she got an allergic infection...IMO, as a person with allergies, Florida is a tough place to be in May..tons of flowers blooming, grass being cut, bushes being trimmed...so I doubt the construction would have had anywhere near the impact on your friend, as those things will have. Be sure she packs her antihistamines for the "natural" smells.

I didn't take it that z28wiz was expecting anything when this thread was started. I took it that they were concerned about what was going on at POR because of all the things being said and the difference in answers to questions posed from both CRO and POR itself. I think it's kinda normal to get impatient about that when you are planning a once in a lifetime vacation and you can't seem to get straight answers from Disney. I also took it that z28wiz was simply reporting the latest info that they were given and I appreciate that and any other info anyone has about this strange situation. I say strange because it seems to me that CRO had reported all along that this situation wasn't going to occur at this time at POR! I for one welcome any thoughts or info that anyone has on this situation.

We will be in POR 5/11 - 5/16 for 5 nights and I was starting to worry that we may get a call to relocate as I heard "rumors" that the construction was starting 5/1 at POR and they were relocating people to other resorts:( My DH loves this resort and would be upset if we couldn't stay there - Now I am excited and my worries are gone!!:Pinkbounc Thanks!!!

Thanks for the info. We are not staying until the end of Sept at POR. Is anyone else concerned about what will be happening with the refurb around this time? We are a family of 5 (so the other moderates are out), I would change my reservation to another moderate if we didnt have 5. I truly do not want an upgrade as we love POR and would be disappointed to have to move. We like the outside corridors as well. Keep us posted!!

I have been reading these posts for the last few days about calls being received for those at POR. I am going from 6/1-6/9 & decided to give them a call. My call was answered by WDTC & the CM had no clue about it. She was insisting that only POFQ was going to be closed. She said she would double check for me. I was on hold about 5 minutes or so & she came back & apoligized. She said that, yes, some of the bldgs will be closed (didn't give bldg numbers). She said most of the bldgs furtherest from the Food Court would be closed. She said nothing else would be effected. The boat to DTD will still run, the Food Court & everything else will be as usual. She did say that IF they were going to switch me, they would call (but didn't say a time frame to expect a call....only an IF). She also said that most of the guests will not be switched out & in fact they were still accepting ressies for my time frame. So I guess I am safe......if anyone else hears any updates......let us all know....

Just returned from POR on Monday after 11 day stay. It appeared that Building 39 Alligator Bayou was deserted. No cars in the parking lot, all window blinds open.

Many parts of French Quarter being worked on. Too bad this resort is going down. I am not convinced it is for refurbishing purposes only. This resort appears fairly new. My daughter will miss the pool as we visit it often.

PS: We have booked two rooms at POR again for 08/13 - 08/24 - no problems.

Tim.

My mother (who happens to work for the maintenence dept For Port Orleans) would disagree. She beleives that the resort has been neglected for a number of years. The money that Port Orleans has made was syphoned off in the 90's to prop up the Disney Institute when it was Port Orleans sister resort. She has said on numerous ocassions that the management there is inconsistent and while she hates to see the place close temporarily, she feels it is necessary to totally rehab the resort.

My mother has been working for DW for 14 years and has been a Port Oleans since the resort opened. She loves the resort, she loves working for WDW but has seen her share of less that adequate managers. She like being the bearer of the pixie dust.;)

oh yeah one other thing i forgot to say was that they told me i would find out at check in if i was to switch resorts. And in no way i thought i should deserve an upgrade. Well anyways i will have fun no matter where i go cause its DISNEY

I just called today, wanted to book me ressie at POR in October (need the trundle bed) the lady that answered the phone checked and double checked and INSISTED that there was to be no refurbishing at ALL at POR, just POFQ that the place I am getting my info from is COMPLETELY WRONG! SHe was NOT nice. I did ask that sicne I will have 4 asthmatic children (all under 6, 2 infants) can I put a note on my ressie that if construction will be anywhere near my room that I need to be contacted so that we can move. She said yes, absolutely, but DONT WORRY, there is no refurbishing scheduled for POR, just POFQ!! UGHHH, there are just so many rumors going on! Steph

I just got the call this morning. We were scheduled June 10 - 17. There also wasn't much of a choice to move to. Grand Floridian for another $2000.00 or the Wilderness Cabins and I can't remember how much they were. I was also told that virtually everyone will be moved. At that time only a couple of buildings will remain open and then they would close. I did not have a choice to stay. I was kind of bummed but we are staying at the Carribean Beach. We have stayed there before. I was disappointed in the amount of upgrades to choose from.

Now another note - this is one CM saying this. You hear different stories!!!

I'm confused about this could someone help.I thought only people staying in Port Orleans french quarter were being moved? My friends trip is at Port Orleans Riverside from June 22-29 would she be having to move??? Anyone know? Thanks

Does anyone know where to get the "straight" answer from? We are staying in Sept/Oct and I would like to know exactly what is going on. I'm sure if I call, I will get 10 different answers. It is very frustrating. We don't even want to be upgraded but we are a family of 5 (so the other mods are out). Why does Disney have so many answers to the same question? Thanks!!

I should have mentioned that we were booked at Port Orleans - Riverside. I had requested one of the front buildings, pool view, ground floor. If this helps at all. I was told that this would not be available. I do not want to be the bearer of bad news, just to let some know. I was told a week ago that we were safe from moving. I had called to ask if this was going to happen and I wanted to know if what my options were. I was told that the buildings would be open. As I said in my earlier post, I was disappointed in my options. I would gladly pay for an upgrade but not another $2000.00. Sorry! I am still happy! We like the Carribean Beach. And we will still enjoy our vacation!!!

The original message I responded to is now severly edited, as well as a following post..so what I responded to about her friend and her friends allergies would no longer make sense in my post. If I was reading what you are reading now, I wouldn't have responded the way I did.

The post I responded to, was when she commmented about Disney liability for her friends allergies if her friend gets ill because she has to stay at a resort they are working on and causing debris, and she wanted Disney to do something about it...even though Disney told her the refurbishing that would affect where she was staying wasn't starting until she left. Once a post has been edited and info responded to removed, it makes the person who responded look like their post didn't make sense. She wanted to be moved or upgraded, but she wasn't part of the relocation, because of the dates of her stay..but like I said the post has been edited, so it no longer tells that story.

As far as the OP being told that she would be being told where she'll be moved to upon check-in, I think she misunderstood. I believe they meant which building. They wouldn't move her from POR, upon arrival, except in an extreme case. You generally can't call in advance and find out where you are going to be..the answer they give when you call is...that they'll let you know upon check-in.

Actually..you may have forgotten, since that part of your post is gone now, but the quote in my message above, was copied and pasted from one of your notes.

Here it is again..this is why some of us thought you expected an upgrade. .

In any case, you will have a wonderful time. POR is my favorite resort. We stayed there the last time parts of it was closed as well as all of French Quarters, and it was still a wonderful place to stay.
