Don't know if this has been flagged up before, but POR now has certain buildings as 'Preferred Rooms' which demand an extra $25 per night.

So there are now 3 options:

Standard Room
Preferred or Water View Room (extra $25 per night)
River View Room (extra $30 per night)

So if you are planning to request a room in one of the following buildings

in the AB Section or Magnolia Terrance and Oak Mansion you will need to pay $25 per night extra.

On the Disney site it only gives you the Standard or Water View options and not the 'Preferred' option.

i didn't know that....i think building 14 is the one we always requested - right next to the main building....

We had building 14 or 15 requested too, but a few months ago someone said that starting in 2011, they were going to be considered preferred rooms. I called and added it to our package which added 200.00 more to our bill, and there were only a few preferred rooms left available for our week. (May 28- June 5th)

If you are wanting this area, you may want to go ahead and upgrade to a preferred room. To me it is worth the extra cost.

In a large spread out resort, especially if you are planning to eat at the foodcourt and have no car, preferred rooms are a definite benefit.

I think they are going the same route as with value resorts, where you pay a premium not to have to walk too far

They have recently upgraded the reservation/room allocation system and changed the classification of preferred rooms at some of the resorts. No doubt there will be more to follow, although I doubt that the dexluxe resorts will be affected.

I would have 'preferred' to have had a room in building 14 (managed to get this building on my 2 previous stays), but for me I would rather spend the extra money on something else. Not too bothered about an extra walk to the foodcourt etc. - the resort landscaping is so nice :)

i am taking the risk, we want a magnolia bend room anyway and like a pp said the walk over is actually really pleasant and will help me burn off those disney calories lol! :lmao: If all the rooms dont get booked up then they would probably put people in them anyway, we were upgraded to a preffered room at all stars resorts on both our stays without having to pay any extra so fingers crossed the same will happen at por.

I forgot to mention: when you have a room Faaaaaaar away from the foodcourt, you get to eat two desserts. ;)

that rule goes well with all the other rules i follow: there are no calories in food eaten from other people's plates......also, there are no calories in anything broken - like a partial french fry or a broken cookie...

Oh yes :thumbsup2 That's why it is better to order two desserts for someone else in your party and you lean over and eat it from their plate. The 'leaning' and extra exertion invovled in reaching for their food also burns additional calories and reduces the effects of sugar on your skin.

It works very well at Riverside (I just put that in so nobody would see that this is now off topic relative to the thread :lmao:)

Maybe you should look at the French Quarter. In October I burnt of 28,000 calories in 15 seconds running away from a snake :lmao: From that point on I could put the cakes onto my own plate and they had zero calorific value :rolleyes1

i wonder if it was the same snake as the one that slithered across our path as we climbed the stairs at blizzard beach...right across the steps as we were walking up...we nearly stepped on it (as we shrieked in horror)...

Nope, FQ seemed to have their own (it wasn't the only one we saw). About 3-4 ft long, not very thick (I don't mean stupid - just not a fat one :rotfl:). They were all the same. I think they are harmless, but the one we nearly stood on coming from our room caught me off guard.

How in the world did the topic go from preferred rooms, to gluttony to snakes :confused3 Please don't answer - I think I am the culprit :guilty:

Apologies to the OP and thank you for your informative post. :goodvibes

Can I please ask where this change was reported as I can't find it on the Disney website

If you are making a booking (or a dummy booking) these options now show, whereas before they were different, depending on the resort. There seem to be more room categories now and some which in the past did not charge an additional fee for the location or room type are now doing so.

Tried that with a booking for December and Preferred Rooms is not mentioned
