I am thinking of upgrading from POR RS to WL. It would cost about 1,500 more for a week. Is it worth it especially with construction? Our trip is planned for late August 2017.

Construction really isn't an issue. I've stayed multiple times during this construction with no distruption in my stay. If you check the WL thread you'll see many folks have the same opinion.

As for the cost, that's up to you. I like the atmosphere, and convience of WL to the MK. I haven't stayed at POR so I can't compare.

We have stayed it both and they are both wonderful! Usually construction isn't too much of a problem. We prefer the WL in the Christmas and winter months...but like POR for the warmer times. WL had an added bonus with transportation to MK, but the bus system for POR is quick and dependable.

Is it worth it is subjective and totally depends on your budget and your travel style. There are a few factors to take in.

WL is a beautiful resort, it's the only deluxe resort we have not stayed in but we have visited it often and have not even noticed the construction. It is a boat ride away from MK but if there is severe weather you are going to have to bus it. Other than MK, you are going to be bussing it to all the other parks unless you want to boat over to Contemporary or MK and then take the monorail (I think it would take less time to bus it). So if you intend to spend a lot of time at MK it might be worth it.

POR is a beautiful resort as well, it's very relaxing. As a moderate POR has outside motel like hallways, WL has inside hallways. In my opinion, if you do stay at POR don't worry about a view, chances are you aren't going to be sitting in your room and looking out since people will be walking by and there are loads of really pretty little nooks and crannies on the grounds to sit and enjoy the place. There is the boat to DS from POR if that interests you. You will have to take a bus everywhere you go and there are multiple bus stops. All of the different areas have a bus stop fairly close. While it looks like a big resort, even the farthest building out is not really that far, I got up every morning and walked around the entire resort and over to POFQ and had to do it twice to get 1/2 hour in. Unless you have some sort of health problems that don't allow you to walk, I wouldn't pay for a preferred room either. I stayed in the Magnolia building of the Plantation section and it was about 3 min. to the main building/pool and there was a bus stop right behind the building.

If you plan on spending a lot of time at the resort and if your budget can take it, go for WL or maybe do a split stay with a few nights at POR and a few nights at WL and you save money and have the best of both worlds.

Worth it...is completely up to the family themselves. pOR is a beautiful resort but very large. The WL is beautiful also but much smaller. We stayed at the POLY during construction it wasn't that bad at all. I think we all just have to come to terms with the fact there will always be construction walls around Disney
