Which should we stay at? For $600 more for 5 nights me, my hubby my 19 year old son, 16 year old son and 9 year daughter can stay at the Wilderness Lodge over POR (we get two connecting rooms, hence the big difference) - is it worth the money or will we be just as happy at POR - let me know your thoughts! You guys are awesome!

I've stayed at both and, for my money, WL is just not worth the extra expense. It's a lovely resort, but POR is, too.

My 10 yo DD says that POR is better. One thing she notes is the food court comparison -- POR is superior in choices, size, etc. With 2 teen boys in your mix, that might be a consideration, too. I would take the $600 and do something else with it.

Have you stayed at any Disney resorts? If it's a matter of trying someplace new and money isn't an object, then you should try WL. It is very nice.

Never been to WDW! So never stayed at any resort! I think I will take your advice - I agree - for $600 doesn't seem worth the added expense - and truly we will be gone most of the days at the parks!

While I love the lodge, seeing as this is your first time out start small and work your way...So to speak. If you will be spending so much time in the parks it isn't worth it.

But if you have extra time tour the resorts (maybe stop at a few for lunch , or even an afternoon break) that way you'll know whether or not you'd be interested in staying there in the future.

Overall enjoy yourself WDW is wonderful! Oh and Welcome to the Dis!

I've stayed at both, and WL is worth it. I like the theming, and you don't have walk a mile to get to the pool. I also like that it is close to MK, and other resorts. You also get a balcony!

I have stayed at POR Many times! And you can get connecting rooms there! We have had connecting rooms the past couple of times. Call and talk to a CM or ask when you check in. But I would call and request it. I like POR very much, but I like WL too, but $600 is a huge difference, we only stay at WL if we get a good deal. I.E. we are only paying $10 more per night to stay at the WL this time!

But I think for your situation I would stick with POR. Really no difference in the rooms other than inside corridor at WL. The age that your boys are at, they could ride the boat to DTD from POR and go to Disney Quest or where ever on their own, the resort is big and has a good food court (we'll even drive there just to eat), the pool is big and is what I describe as L shaped, design set up as one end for kids and the other for older kids/adults. We actually sat on our "balcony" at POR, first floor corner room in Bayou, so no one walked past our room. We were right at quiet pool, which is great to sit around also. We never used our woods view balcony at WL. I love the pool at WL, but it is smaller and your kids are bigger and would probably appreciate the one at POR better. I really think they will enjoy the POR better.

You could find alot of fun ways to spend that $600........

ps I do think your kids would like the casual side of Alligator Bayou better than the formal side of Mansions. We have stayed both sides, and my kids & DH prefer AB.

I think we decided then to stick with POR! Now the only thing is the Mansions or Alligator Bayou! Not so sure I WANT TO STAY in the Bayou section - sounds like I would be staying in a swamp? And I hear not all those rooms are renovated whereas the Mansions are - hmmm.... any thoughts on that?

Haven't been since the renovation so I can't help there. We enjoyed the bayou and it didn't feel swampy, just more rustic and private.

Have stayed twice on each side and enjoyed EVERY trip. Either way you will have a great time. The mansions are very very nice. If that is what appeals to you, I say go for it !

Sorry can't comment on that. I haven't stayed there as of yet, but just went through the same thinking but after reading so much on the Disboards so many seem to prefer the AB to Mansions.

I requested it, but it is just that a request and we shall see what happens in June.

I have stayed in AB and the Mansions. I definitely prefer the Mansions. As you can see many people have different opinions. It's just like a movie review. I read them but I still go to the movie and judge for myself. Not everyone likes the same things. That's why there are different resorts for different folks. With that said, I prefer the WL to POR big time. I'm sure you'll still be happy wherever you stay. Good Luck!
