POR or Swan if you got the exact same rate?

This is for another set of nights. Which would you choose? Because of our itinerary, we'd be going to Epcot, DTD, and MGM on the days we'd be staying there. We're waffling between POR and SWAN, and because of a family member working for the Swan parent company, our rate will be approx. the same.

Thanks

Shel

Just wanted to add that we have to let the family member know by tomorrow morningif we want the Swan, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Shel

I would pick the Swan because of location. The boat to MGM and Epcot and being able to walk to both is a great advantage. I've only stayed at POR, which we really like, but I would try the Swan for the same money.

The SWAN! You will love the location! It's our favorite!

I love POR but I would pick the Swan just for the location.

No contest!

Pick the Swan - think of it as a choice between a Deluxe and a Moderate plus you are walking distance to Boardwalk, Epcot and Studios

Enjoy

I would have to agree with the Swan. As much as I LOVE POR and have never stayed at the Swan you would be getting a much better value for the same price as POR and better location for the areas of WDW that you plan on visiting.

Adding a vote for the SWAN. As nice as POR must be, the Swan will be the better value and have better amenities for the money. We had a standard view room (allegedly parking lot, but the angle really gives you a Boardwalk Inn view) that still gave us a nice view of MGM and a bit of Epcot. The rooms are soooo comfortable!!

Swan. Your basically getting a deluxe for the price of a moderate. You can walk to Epcot in less than 10 minutes and to MGM in 15. You can take the boat to either. I prefer taking the boat to MGM and walking to Epcot. The Boardwalk is fun too. You might decide to do that instead of DTD.

There is absolutely NO comparison - the Swan is wonderful. We have stayed at POFQ and the Swan. I would go back to POFQ if the price was right, but we will definitely return to the Swan. The service was fantastic. NEver felt crowded at all. The restauruants are excellent - although Boatwrights does have those yummy sweet tater pancakes!!

On our last trip (9/20 - 9/24 - walked on all rides) we stayed at the Swan but did drive over to POR for breakfast. The Swan was peaceful and serene and POR was SWARMING with people. At that moment, I was extremely relieved to be staying at the Swan.

The pool is wonderful for the kiddies. Make sure to request a room with a balcony. I really enjoyed that. At POR there are no balconies or patios. You really can't even open your curtains because the walkways are right outside your room. (Have seen a few things I really didn't care to as a result of open curtains :) )

The only caution I have about the Swan is that there may be a convention going on in which case it would probably be a little more nuts. (During a recent convention that my husband went to, the entire lobby of the Dolphin was standing room only, there were no rooms available - we ended up in the BC which was much quieter during the convention. There were thousands of people and I can imagine that a vacationing family might not be too happy there.) Not sure if they would tell you that info or not, but it might be nice to know before you make your decision.

There is actually a big convention there that weekend. Plus Mousefest.

At the same time, the weekend we'll be there is supposed to be really busy. Hmmm.

I swear I thought my resort decisions were done about 7 months ago. Here we are down to the wire and I'm still deciding! ACK!

The Dolphin will have most of the convention "traffic" - even though the attendees will also be staying at the Swan. As for MouseFest...lucky you!!!! I was there during MouseFest the past two years, and wish I could go this year. For Epcot/MGM touring, you'll be SO glad you can walk or take the boat back to the Swan, rather than waiting for the bus to POR.

The only "problem" with the Swan is that once you get in the Heavenly bed - you don't want to get out.

I also have stayed in both - definitely pick the Swan

I have to disagree on this one - yes, the Swan is a deluxe and has "heavenly" beds, but what about the grounds, pools and playgrounds? Can you stroll down beautifully landscaped walk ways, take your kids to a big playground to wear off some steam or does it have a fun themed pool area and arcade? What about counter service restaurants if you just want to grab a quick bite? It would be nice to be able to walk to DTD (but more fun to take a boat like at POR and POFQ). If it were DH and I with no kids, I may consider it, but for me personally, I would much rather stay at a moderate, WL, AKL or Fort Wilderness cabins.

1st I have to say that I love PORS. We stayed there last may after staying in DVC and delxues for years and still were very happy.

Now giving that choice I would go with Swan.
1: because I have never stayed there,
2: Same price, go with Swan.
3: Location of Swan and where you plan to go, it is right between MGM and Epcot.

I don't think the convention should bother you. There is always something going on.

Good luck.

No contest -- the Swan. POR has lovely landscaping and is very nice -- but at the end of the day, it's a motel. The Swan is a luxury resort with a gorgeous, never crowded pool, and tons of dining options (including a quick burger/ice cream place in the Dolphin. Also, you will never regret being a mere boatride away from MGM and Epcot.
