POR or POFQ?

We are going in late Feb and want to split our stay at AKL with either POFQ or POR. I have not been to either and have read great things about both. I'm really looking forward to trying something new, but can't decide which resort it will be! Is there anything that makes one stand out over the other?

Also, we've been to Disney a couple of times already and are out of "park commando" mode - so we plan to spend a decent amount of time at the resorts. We will likely be at POR/POFQ for three or four nights. Is there anything we shouldn't miss at the PO complex?

Thanks for your advice!

POFQ is smaller and less stressful to navigate. If you are out of commando mode and looking to relax in the evenings; I loved strolling a short walk down to the dock at POFQ and hopping on a boat to Downtown Disney to shop or eat. I loved the New Orleans theming and music. It was my happy place :-) I know that Riverside is pretty too - just bigger than what I wanted to deal with that trip.

Both are lovely and provide evening entertainment not to be missed.... We are very happy wiht POFQ but our friends like POR. Try looking at the pictures and see what suits your family best.

We have never stayed at POR but have seen it while having dinner. It looks very beautiful.

That being said I consider POFQ my HOME.....the quiant size and New Orleans theming are just wonderful. We loved the boat ride to DTD and POR. The pool was fantastic, my kids loved the serpant slide. The only major draw back was no sit-down, table service restaurant. But that was solved easily with that wonderful boat ride to DTD and to POR to eat at Boatwrights.

The size of your family will really play into the resort you pick to. POR has rooms that will accomodate a party of 5 while POFQ does not.

POFQ is the first bus stop to be picked up and the first to be dropped off. The busses are shared between the two resorts.

Remember, since the resorts are "sister" resorts you have use all facilities at either resort no matter which one you are staying at.

Good luck in choosing. Either way you will enjoy yourselves.

They are both very nice, but my favorite has to be POFQ.
Its smaller and more laid back. But you can always take a walk over to POR (or POFQ.)
I agree with Lou-Ann, look at pictures and then go from there, you may like one better than the other.

If you are going to be spending more time at the resort relaxing, I would choose Port Orleans Riverside. The landscaping is lush! It is very relaxing to stroll around the grounds, especially at night. Don't get me wrong, I like POFQ (and have ressies there for next October). POFQ is much more compact. You are usually close to the bus stop or the food court. But for ambiance I would definately choose POR. :flower:

We loved POFQ for it's size and quaintness. Our kids also thought the water slide there was THE best overall. :earsgirl: You can always "visit" POR! You are entitled to the ammenities since they are sister resorts.

Was at Riverside last week, i didn't get a chance to go over to fq. I would highly recommend riverside, we didn't have any problems.

I haven't stayed at FQ, only visited. That said, I would choose Riverside. More pools (I don't like swimming with a million kids), fantastic food court (didn't like FQs food court, but that was about 5 years ago), love the landscaping (we stay in the AB section), and beautiful paths to wander around.

IMO PO Riverside is far superior for ambience. This boils down to taste, and I much prefer a serene, beautifully landscaped place to the more hustle/bustle at POFQ.

POR is much bigger, which to me is a plus because it feels more like a resort (many beautiful walkways, a full service restaurant, activities).

Another vote for POR. We visited POFQ during our last stay. Small, quaint, etc, but we found it crowded. Pool was crowded because there is only one pool for the whole resort. Food court crowded because it was smaller. Playground crowded due to small size. Riverside on the other hand felt less crowded in every aspect. So many pools to choose from. Water activities like boats to rent. Food court and sit down restaurant. Big playground for the kids. Nice big main pool with slide. Bike rentals. Horse drawn carriage rides. We just love POR. We will be going back in December. Check out my pictures from our last stay. We took some of FQ too.

I'm also putting my vote for Riverside. But maybe we shouldn't because then more people would go there. It is absolutely beautiful, restful, with a food court, restaurant.

My family still call it Dixielanding which is what it was named.

Even though my family are Disney Vacation Club members I spend my own money for POR so my family could use the points for our home base at Old Key West. I've been to POR three times this year alone.

From January to March of this year I had a very bad cold and got so frustrated that I joked around and said I need a vacation at POR. When medicines did not work my father honestely told me go to Riverside and relax there and get better. So I took his advice. Yes, I got better and came back with a smile.

I can't wait to go back.

Good point. Strike what I said earlier. :rolleyes1 Maybe FQ would be better for you.

Have stayed at both - love them both! Whatever your decision - it will be a good one, regardless!
