In October my bf and I stayed at POFQ for the 1st time and I absolutely LOVED it. He was telling me the other night he would like to go back next year to see all the Christmas stuff :woohoo:
But he wants to try a different resort this time. Which is understandable. He wants to stay at Riverside but i really would like to go back to French Quarter. I've always stayed at the values when I went to Disney with my family. So honestly to me it doesn't really matter where we stay. I've been looking at pictures online of POR and I just don't like it. Can someone convince me that this resort is just as nice as POFQ?

I've only ever stayed at POR, so I don't have much else to compare it to, however, I don't think you can go wrong choosing POR. There are 2 different types of buildings with rooms and are split by the river. One side looks like southern mansions and the other is set in a much more woodsy area. So it's definitely all about feel! We always stay at the alligator bayou buildings and try to stay as close to the main building as possible which makes it easy to get food in the morning and at lunch as well as utilize our mugs as much as possible. There are many pools, the main one and a number of small pools within the building areas. The other great thing (I think) about POR is that there are 4 bus stops so chances are that no matter where your room is, there is a bus stop relatively close by! It is really a great resort with plenty of activites and if you get the itch to go back to POFQ, you can take a walk over there to swim in their pool!

Our last two trips have been at POR (5 to a room). This time there are only 3 of us going and we are staying at FQ. We always visit this resort and thought we would try it this time (mainly because the refurb has been complete).

All that being said POR is great - We stay in the Magnolia Bend section (the mansion area) and it's a brief walk across the parking lot for our bus stop. The food court appears to have more options at POR and the pasta grill is wonderful.

Pools - 7 of them - are great. I don't think you will be disappointed. Give it a try.

We loved POR. It's a beautiful property, great for nice walks in the evening. I think the theme is great. I personally liked the feel of it and theme of it more than POFQ.

Having stayed at both, I like POR better. The theming, food court, pool, activities are all better. The only thing that POFQ has better is the size of the resort. However, if you don't stay far away from the pool or main house, you will be fine. And with 4 different bus stops, that's not as much of a concern anymore.

Our first trip was to POFQ and that was 15 years ago. We have stayed at POR twice and we loved it the first time and liked it the second time. Both times we stayed in the mansions, first the magnolia and the second the Arcadia building. I didn't like being that far away. The first trip we had a water view upgrade and it was so nice. We woke up looking out at the nice green grass and looking the water ways.
I say go for it. It's a nice change. Just try to request the magnolia building. If you don't like it then you can at least say you have tried it.

We love POR, mansion section. Both Magnolia Terrace and Acadian House have just been recently refirbished. Both buildings are close to the bridge over to main pool and food court, and bus stops.
I like staying close to the quiet pool between them. Great location.
The grounds at POR are beautiful, love walking around the paths.
IMO, Riverside has the better food court, resort store, and pools. I like having the option of going to the quiet pools.

Thank you for all the tips and advice. I know if we were to stay there I would have to ask for a preferred room. My bf has bad knees and recently had surgery. we were lucky enough to be super close to everything at POFQ. but with this resort being much bigger i'm a little worried.
I'm also hoping for free dining next december. we had it in october and it saved us a lot of money!! :thumbsup2 I'm super excited about getting to go back at Christmas time.
my last question would be what sections are in the preferred room section??

I haven't stayed at neither yet but I am favoring FQ for the short distance to the bus stop and food court as I have a bad foot, we stayed at All Star Sports which I loved but our room was far so I guess I could handle POR I just don't like the idea of all the bus stops. All star sports contrary to what the boards say had one stop and went right to the park and that's what I prefer. I heard that POR is close so if you wanted to use their food court you could I will consider both.

Out of all the 4 moderates, the POR is my absolute favorite. The mansions are beautiful, but we like AB area too. The preferred rooms are all in AB, so if you got that route that it what you will get. Seriously, we have stayed all levels from deluxe to value and at most of the resorts. POR is probably our very favorite of them all. There is something so incredibly gorgeous about the property and the mansions section are just beautiful! The food court is the best on property in my opinion.

I agree with these two. I personally dont like the theme at POFQ at all. POR has much nicer grounds in my opinion. Very pretty. The fact that POFQ is smaller and has one bus doesnt matter to me. I was never inconvenienced by the buses at POR. The plus at POR is that there are more pools, bike/boat rentals, and a bigger food court. Love the make your own pasta btw. Amazing!

We stayed at the newly refurbished Arcadian mansion. So gorgeous. Really nice rooms. And it was quite close to the main building.
